Most Comfortable Boots I've Owned

Lowa Vento QC Hiking Shoe - Men's

Lowa Vento QC Hiking Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 12, 2010

I've used these for about two months this summer for casual wear, day hikes, and backpacking with a light pack (25 or so lbs). They are quite light and seem to have reasonable support for such a light boot. I've often gotten blisters with other boots, even after breaking them in, but I didn't get even a hot spot on a 12 mile hike using these boots fresh out of the box. They do run small. I got a good fit with a 9.5 US but usually wear an 8.5 to 9.0. I probably have fewer than 200 miles on these boots so I can't address durability but no problems so far. I like these enough that I'm going to get second pair to set aside before they change or discontinue them.

Very Warm for Its Weight

Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Down Sweater Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

This is the jacket I choose most often during our Montana winters. I use it by itself for around town or worn under a breathable shell for low intensity activity on bitter days it's just fine. It's too warm under a shell for higher intensity exercise. I take it on all my backcountry skiing day trips to wear during lunch stops or while "cooling down" after a long climb to a ridge. The reviewer who claimed this isn't any warmer than a layer of heavyweight capilene must have been wearing it while it was soaking wet.
