Mountain Hardwear Flip 25/40 Sleeping Bag: 25-40 Degree

February 7, 2011

Duh....isn't kind of obvious? The lighter/thinner insulated side is the 40 degree side (keep that side up on warm nights). The thicker insulated side is the 25 degree rated side (keep THAT side up on cooler nights). There is an obvious difference.

Not for Heavy Duty Use

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Women's

Marmot PreCip Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 2 July 5, 2010

Love Marmot Brand (have one of their tents and 3 UL down bags) and love their customer service response but....this jacket is NOT for serious backcountry use where you could run into heavy and/or extended rains. I contacted Marmot about the problem and they suggested washing with powdered (of course) or gear specific detergent. They even sent me the special wash and DWR spray. Next heavy rain, the jacket worked for an hour or so then started wetting through where pack straps ride. Very frustrating for someone who is will to do multi-day backpacking trips in inclement weather. Not specifically dishing on Marmot PreCip line as other brands have same issues with some of their waterproof products. Bottom line...if want waterproofing you can depend on, no matter how hard or long the rain, go ahead and spend the bucks on Gore-Tex.

Jetboil Classic Personal Cooking System

October 22, 2009

My husband and I spent 7 days in the Yosemite backcountry and still had a fuel left over from one (shared) 100g canister. We averaged boiling 5 - 6 cups of water/day between the both of us. Jetboil claims a 100g canister will boil 12 liters of water (50 Cups) but to plan 10 liters (42 cups) to be on the safe side. I would not take any more than 2 100g canisters. You could probaly get by with one but the extra would provide safe play; we like to prepare for the possiblity of a fuel leak (which have NEVER happened, by the way). Good luck.
