Almost all goggles on the market are double lensed, this one included. Most purveyors of single lensed goggles are cheap off-brand products that you'd probably find in a gas station heading up to the resort. If you're looking at particularly good venting, Smith's goggles with their helmets are designed to work together for no fog. I didn't believe all the marketing hype around Smith's lineup, but after trying it all myself, it makes a huge difference in terms of visibility in any conditions and reduced eye strain with their tapered lens optics. To be fair, I'm burnt out on Oakley because I've had too many of their products fail on me; Smith on the other hand stands behind their gear and gives you better equipment, fairer prices, and a lifetime warranty to boot.Smith Helmets:http://search.backcountry.com/exec/?mv_session_id=L4

The length of the ski is really a personal preference, I'm similarly sized and prefer to ski on a 167, even in the backcountry. I'd shy away from the 185, if you're looking to ski *on* the powder instead of in it, I'd recommend wider skis over longer skis. The primary difference between the Lines is a narrower tip and wider waist. This slightly alters your turn radius, but nothing close to noticing. If you're not dead set on a twin tip, I'd seriously consider the Rossi Phantom SC80. It's a fantastic all mountain ski, and the integrated binding system makes everything a snap. They're my primary ski of choice, and I just bought a pair for my dad. He can't wait to take them up onto the hill this week.http://www.backcountry.com/store/ROS0395/Rossignol-Phan

Yakima's fairing is designed to fit around the Yakima RoundBars. You would be able to rig the clips around your aero/oval shaped factory cross bars using some zip ties, but the product isn't "designed" for that purpose. That being said, we all know your sticker collection needs a place to live.

If you're out in the blustery cold, it would make a difference. As for sizing, it really depends on how snug you like your gear. Personally, I would choose the XL if I were in your situation. I'd imagine that it will fit snugly, but not too tight.

The bottle shouldn't have any trouble fitting into a car cupholder, but for whatever it's worth I prefer Camelbak's Better Bottle. They're BPA free, super durable, and I know for a fact that they fit into car cupholders, the .75L is almost always 'compatible'.Better Bottles keep the water at easier access, no need to unscrew a lid to drink; just bite and suck. $199 seems pretty reasonable to me. Nashbar may be cheaper, but Backcountry covers your shipping (UPS Ground), gives you an unlimited return policy, and also kicks tons of money into the industry and community to support good causes. As for this stand, Park makes the best stands around. I've had my PRS-15 stand for quite a while and it just keeps on doing its job. Don't scrimp on a stand, they're worth every penny when your friends derailleur gets sucked into their rear wheel and busts a few spokes.

I wish I could help you out, but since I haven't actually used this wheelset I don't know what I can help you with. What I can provide is an unsolicited opinion. Whenever I build a bike, I try to figure out a balance between how much it's costing against weight against performance. I figure out a cost per gram for certain parts, how light I want to keep things, and even though I have a new BMC road bike with '09 SRAM Red + Force, I'm well on my way to having the thing cost pennies per mile (currently just under $1/mile). Add some commuter miles to your steed instead of driving, and the bike will more than have paid for itself in no time.Unsolicited opinion #2: Most people don't need a crazy expensive wheelset like this. Even I don't need a crazy expensive wheelset like this. For whatever it's worth, Mavic and Easton both make some fantastic wheelsets at about half the price. They're not nearly as technically advanced, and you don't get the funny looks while riding, but they're easier to use since they're not Deep-V rims, and since they're not as expensive people are more apt to actually put miles on them instead of letting them collect dust until race day. Here's one of my favorite wheelsets:http://www.backcountry.com/store/MAV0021/Mavic-Ksy

A lot of that depends on your current frame size, whether or not you fit well on it, etc. I'm 5'10", ride on a 56cm frame with a 100 mm stem. When I lent out my bike to my friend who is almost 6', we just raised the seat slightly (my legs are short and torso is super long) and put on a 120mm stem that he had kicking around.I'd look at what you currently have, and then go from there. If you're unsure, a local bike shop that specializes in bike fitting should be able to give you the best idea.

I absolutely love my Shift Softshell. I picked one up for last winter, and it's lived through 125+ brutal days on the slopes and in the backcountry and beyond.1) Very warm.It depends on your body's internal heating system, my body doesn't mind cold. The PolarTec PowerShield material keeps the nastiest of winds from punching through. I've personally worn it in nearly 100 mph gusts of wind.I also wear the jacket around casually, it's great anywhere.2) Wrist closuresSorry Charlie. I leave that up to my Hestra gloves, and they do a darned awesome job.3) Lining rocks.Back to that awesome Polartec PowerShield magic, the stuff is awesome in any weather. Here's how I would typically wear the gear day in and day out this winter, even down to -10°:Base Layer: Backcountry.com Merino Shirthttp://www.backcountry.com/store/BCC0104/Backcountry-Me

My parents have a Toyota RAV4 with a similar spare tire situation. When I was setting them up with a rack, we looked at these racks but felt that bikes clanging into each other is far worse than a few extra pounds (which honestly your car frame can handle, no questions asked). If you have the funds available, go for a Yakima Hold-Up or a Thule T2 Rack and a light-duty hitch. Personally, I prefer Yakima's Ankle Biter mechanisms over the Thule T2 setup. You'll be happy you did, and your bikes will be even happier.http://www.backcountry.com/store/YAK0234/Yakima-Hold

The extra large bag has a TPRCV of 20.What is TPRCV you ask?The geniuses at Timbuk2 explain it best:We know you don't have time to buy the wrong size bag. We also know you're imaginative and visually oriented problem solvers living in a three dimensional world where toilet paper is routinely available.Soft, stackable and building block-like, toilet paper rolls can be easily arranged to simulate the internal dimensions of any bag.Working in tandem with our R&D department, our marketing team recently completed an assessment of each bag. We have identified, down to the roll, the maximum capacity for each bag we tested. The resulting TPRCV (Toilet Paper Roll Capacity Value) can be used in a simple, at-home comparison of corresponding stacks of TPR, helping you make an informed decision about what size bag best suits your purposes. You will need a flat, level surface, a maximum of twenty-one toilet paper rolls (TPRs), your imagination, and your design and rendering skills. For best results, use two-ply.

It has to do with the fabric used to make the pack. The Biz uses a 1000 denier polyester, while the Bandolier is a somewhat weak 245 denier nylon.Additionally, the polyurethane liner inside this bag keeps some things waterpoof, the Bandloier doesn't have that option.

Yes! This bag is just under half the size of the pack I take on a week long backpacking trip! Big bags, especially with younger kids generally equates to bad news. Try a smaller pack or a messenger bag to encourage carrying only what is necessary and good bag-cleaning habits.Even as a university student I try to limit my bag size, otherwise I'd break my back trying to lug 100lbs of books a day.Give these a try:http://search.backcountry.com/exec/?q=timbuk2&x=0&am

First, make sure that your bite valve is open. DO NOT TAKE A KNIFE TO IT. This will make it leaky. If the bite valve is shut, gently massage it until it opens.Second, be sure that the flow valve is open. This is located just behind the bite valve.Third, make sure there aren't any kinks in the line. Placement of the bag on your back makes no difference as the Camelbak isn't gravity-fed. You suck (vacuum) the water out of the reservoir.Hope this helps, and remember to Hydrate or Die.

These packs are smaller, and honestly, the Eagle Creek packs are so worth it. Eagle Creek thinks things through down to every last detail, sources their products with the best materials, and have been doing luggage packs for years and years.I'm usually on-board at least 3+ flights a week, and I wouldn't choose anything but my Eagle Creek gear.

With all of the new products coming into the warehouse right now, I imagine it'd take Backcountry's in-house photo studio a while to get some more detailed shots of the bag. Also, the manufacturer doesn't seem to provide any detailed shots either. The handle on this bag looks perfectly sized to hook around a rolling carry-on bag, but your mileage may vary. While photos are cool and all, it's better to see and handle the product for yourself. With Backcountry's amazingly generous return policy, I'd recommend ordering the bag, seeing how it would work with your carry-on, and if it doesn't work just return it. No hassles, no worries, it's easy.

In theory, a seam-sealed tent shouldn't need to be re-sealed. Ever. It depends on the manufacturing process, type of sealant used, and how often you use it.For whatever it's worth, in the case of my MSR Hubba Hubba, I had one for years that had no problems with the seal. I've since upgraded to the Hubba Hubba HP, and even after using it for a couple of full-year seasons and I still don't have any issues.

It completely depends on your use for the tent, hence the myriad of combinations. In all honesty, any tent should have a sealed seam. This keeps the tent waterproof, and if seams aren't sealed, moisture will be able to wick in overnight, even if it doesn't rain. You can either seal the seams yourself with a sealant product, or you can buy a tent with pre-sealed seams.Taped seams help eliminate some of the waterproofing issues, and are a good start, but a taped seam should still be sealed.Hope this helps eliminate some confusion!

When you typically buy shoes, if you buy wide, I'd get a wide shoe. You want your shoes to be snug but not constricting, so a half-size larger than your current size may or may not be any help to you.Sorry for being incredibly vague, but shoes are one of those tricky areas that are incredibly specific for everyone. Backcountry has an incredibly forgiving return policy, snag a few pair to try on in home and then simply return the ones that don't fit. You can't lose.

Whether or not this is a good pack for school completely depends on your needs. There's a fair amount of padding on the pack, but it's also big. Bigger packs = bigger loads, meaning most people cram more junk into their packs than they need and carry around dead weight. Also, if you need to carry around a laptop, this pack probably isn't that great of an idea.I personally prefer a messenger bag, having a single compartment for all of my gear makes things easy to find, makes sure that I keep it relatively tidy, and they're great for commuting by bike.Check it out:http://search.backcountry.com/exec/?q=timbuk2&x=0&am

It completely depends on your outer boot sole length. Check the outer shell of your boot in the heel and look for a number in millimeters, it'll probably be close to 297 mm.The short is for 245-300 mm boot sole length, and the medium is for 280-335 mm boot sole lengths. If you fall inbetween sizes, I'd personally opt for the medium for potential re-sale purposes.Backcountry.com proudly ships from the amazing and drop-dead gorgeous Wasatch Range in Salt Lake City, Utah. It typically takes 2 days to California, and Backcountry works its balls off to ship within 24 hours.Shipping cutoff is *generally* 3pm MT, 12pm if you're wanting next-day air. This isn't designed to replace tent poles, it is a larger diameter pole designed to pitching tarps and single or double pole shelters. I'm not really sure where to find replacement tent poles. If you're wanting replacement tent poles, you need to contact the original manufacturer's warranty and repair department. When you call, be sure to have the tent model and (if available) model year available, as well as a good description of which pole needs replacing. Tent makers have hundreds if not thousands of different pole designs that vary by tent model.Be aware that some manufacturers make you go through an authorized dealer for the replacement pole.

In terms of handling the heat, no sweat. Titanium is tough stuff. Two things though. 1) Campfires will char and blacken these things, they'll be covered in soot and that's not very fun to clean. 2) Titanium is notorious for having 'hot-points' in the material, which means uneven cooking. Having an even flame from a stove keeps things cooking fairly normally, but the random heat of flames could leave food burnt to a crisp in one half of your pot and doughy in another part.Pack a stove, they're worth it.

The bike racks typically only mount onto round or square crossbars, not the factory 'aero' crossbar. There are a couple of upright racks from Yakima that will allow the Horizontal Mighty Mount, but you won't find any fork mount roof racks that work with that. Thule doesn't make any racks like that either.Dodge does put out some rack products under their accessories, you can inquire at your local dealer about that.

Sorry dude, the Civic roof seriously limits you. You're probably going to need towers, crossbars, a Yakima Q-stretch kit, and other magic like that (I do highly recommend Yakima over Thule, I find they make better products that actually work).Go to yakima.com and check out their rack configuration area. They'll tell you exactly what you need, what's nice to have, and trust me, a good rack is worth it. It may cost more than your boat, but not properly mounting your skiff could mean that your boat flies on to the interstate at 80 miles an hour and bursts into a million pieces.Think I'm joking? Some guys rented a brand new kayak from our shop, didn't strap it down that well, and took off. 20 miles down the road, the thing flies off and is promptly obliterated, only to be finished off by a MACK truck. They weren't very happy when we not only charged them a late fee, but for the full cost of the boat.

Sure thing, the one product comes with two racks. Just be aware, the locking mechanism on this rack is cool and all, but won't keep your skis safe. The rack's crossbar attachments can be undone even if locked, which means that not only can your skis get swiped, but your racks too. Maybe I'm more paranoid about this because my racks fully loaded with skis is worth more than my Subaru, but I thought it was a gross product design oversight. If this kind of thing bugs you, get the Yakima PowderHound or similar racks. You'll be happier with them anyway, they just work better (like opening/closing in cold environments).Check it:http://www.backcountry.com/store/YAK0220/Yakima-Big-Powde

Yes, different lenses block different levels of light (and some are better contrasting for different weather conditions, etc.)These lenses block 88% of available light. If you're on a snowy peak, it'll block 88% of that light, which could still appear somewhat bright. If you're in a dark forest, 88% of the light will still be blocked, and things will appear pretty dark.If you're wanting lenses that adjust light transmission, you want 'Transitions' lenses. You'll need to get them direct from a prescription sunglass dealer, and be warned that the half-ass tints in sorta-overcast-conditions make anyone look beyond lame.

This bag is pretty dang big. The geniuses at Timbuk2 have developed an objective measurement system called TPRCV, or toilet-paper roll capacity value. Their large classic messenger bag is similar in size, and can hold 16 toilet paper rolls. Here's their explanation:What is TPRCV?We know you don't have time to buy the wrong size bag. For best results, use two-ply.http://www.timbuk2.com/tb2/products/messenger/classi

I understand small straps that go beneath bumpers and hooks around trunk hatches, but those can be easily circumvented/removed.Basically you'll have to run the locking rope through your entire trunk compartment, or come up with some other highly creative routing for it to be effective.

It completely depends upon the draw of these batteries. For some simple math, use the equation P=VI, where P = watts, v = voltage, and i = current or amps. Batteries commonly run at 14volts, you'll draw several amps, and you'll need more watts going in.For some comparison, my MacBook Pro (laptop) charger draws a full 85 watts to charge in 2-3 hours. You'll need a lot of these panels for three marine batteries. If you're just wanting something to keep the radio going, these panels will do the trick. Also, for connecting to a battery, I'd seriously look at this controller. It needs a minimum of 10 watt input:http://www.backcountry.com/store/BRU0149/Brunton-Solar

Like many people, you have slightly different sized feet or feet with a slightly different shape. Congratulations, you're normal, and you're simply wearing one shoe that doesn't agree with your foot.Since it's carbon soled, you should be able to bake it at low temperatures to make the carbon malleable and make it fit to your foot better. Look in the product manual that came with the shoes for info on how to do this, or call footwear stores in your area and see if they have any experience doing the molding work on your feet.

It's uncomfortable and downright sucks, even with the best of chamois. Our shop has made these three saddles 'must-haves' for all employee bikes:http://www.backcountry.com/store/SEL0006/Selle-Italia-

It depends on whether or not you enjoy looking like you're riding in the late 1990s. You shouldn't have any problems putting bar ends on this bar since it tapers down to a 25.4 diameter from the center. If you're dead-set on the bar ends for riding positions, try some more trippy bars like the ones linked below. You'll get funny looks, and I swear you'll love them.http://www.on-one.co.uk/index.php?module=pagemaster&

This is a three-bolt shoe, you'll need some three-hole adapters from Crank Brothers in addition to the cleats. Backcountry doesn't stock those, so you'll have to go to your local bike shop or look around online. It'd also be more simple to get a true SPD shoe with 2-bolt design. Sidi and Lake both make my favorite shoes, here are some suggestions:http://www.backcountry.com/store/SID0004/Sidi-Do

Wikipedia says exactly what I would tell you, but in a more concise manner."The colour of the lens can vary by style, fashion, and purpose, but for general use, green, grey, yellow, or brown is recommended to avoid or minimize color distortion which would be dangerous when, for instance, driving a car. Gray lenses are considered neutral because they do not enhance contrast or distort colors. Brown and green lenses cause some minimal color distortion, but have contrast-enhancing properties…[Continues at Wikipedia]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sunglasses#Lens

My parents bought themselves the same car, and I've stolen a shop rack to put on it when I take my dad out riding. You won't be able to open the door all the way since it's a swinging instead of raising door, but there's enough room to work around with to grab your gear in the back.

That's a loaded question. It completely depends on what HR monitor you have, its design, etc. I highly recommend a call to Polar's customer service and ask them what your options are. Have your model # ready so they can easily look things up.I wouldn't be surprised if this did work with your HR monitor, if you feel like taking a little risk you can buy it from Backcountry. If things don't work out, send it back and Backcountry's killer return policy has you covered.

Use Yakima's 'Rack My Car' list to determine exactly what you need.http://yakima.com/Consumer/Step1.aspxThe Horizontal Mighty Mounts do a lot, but they still don't cut it for putting my bike racks on. I simply re-did all of my Subaru factory racks with new towers, crossbars, and the whole works. I especially like the fact that everything is locked down with SKS cores, just another thing that keeps my gear from getting lifted.

It's a simple balance of chemistry. The filter removes large elements, which means there's less for the agent to have to 'sanitize' when you drop in the tablet. By simply filtering large elements, they consume a large portion of the chlorine dioxide and there isn't enough left to kill the especially nasty microbes in your water.

Most AC units draw more power than a small solar panel can provide, and wiring solar power to your home requires a skilled electrician. Many states offer tax credits for installing solar panels. If you're serious about wanting to harness solar energy I recommend that you find a local person that specializes in solar installations. Backcountry's über-smart warehouse practically runs itself, if they have the item it's already on the site.Since the ski season is over and the new '08-'09 lines are coming in, dealers have what they have. This means they have what they have.I will let you in on a ski boot manufacturing secret though, the outer shell is the exact same for a half size when it comes to ski boots. I'd buy the 23.5, put in a slightly thicker insole, and (like magic!) you'll have a 23.0 boot. If it doesn't work out for you, Backcountry's killer return policy has your back.Good luck!

These shoes are just fine for spinning. The main difference between a road and a mountain bike shoe are the stiffness. Think of road shoes as walking on solid planks, while the MTB shoes have a little bit of flex so that you can actually walk. The most important thing is making sure you get the cleats that are compatible with the spinning bikes. If you are responsible to bring your own pedals and change them out yourself, you'll want both of these:http://www.backcountry.com/store/CRN0010/Crank-Brother

Personally, I prefer the Hestra gloves. BD does a great job, but Hestra thought of every detail in the glove design, and they're just as warm (if not warmer than) the Prodigy glove. Some reasons you'll be happier with the Hestra: wrist cords (keep them from falling off while on the lift), a better 'snow-lock' velcro strap to keep snow out, and one hell of a conversation starter (i.e. 'WTF is on your hands?!')Try 'em and you'll be glad you did.

I'd be awfully surprised if the tights went on sale other than during Backcountry's half-yearly sales. From an outdoor retailer's standpoint, they're really not season specific, and the product lines don't change all that often. If you're really trying to ask 'Is this thing really worth the money or should I only buy it if I can get a deal?,' I have to answer with a resounding and emphatic YES.
