Therm-a-Rest Trail Lite Sleeping Pad

Therm-a-Rest Trail Lite Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 4 October 25, 2009

No..it isn't self-inflating, but I've yet to find an insulated pad that really is. You're always going to need to 'top off' a pad with a few puffs before you hit the hay if you want it nice and 'airy'. If you unroll the pad and pop the valve when you get into camp, and dont leave anything on top of it, it will be well on its way to full when you're ready for bed. I've used it in temps down to the lower 30's several times and it dosen't feel like sleeping on a block of ice, but it's not as warm and insulating as the Pro.
Yes, it won't pack down as small as a Big Agnes fully inflatable pad, but won't have freezing problems in cold weather due to all the moisture that collects from your breath.

The North Face XTC Midweight Tight - Men's

The North Face XTC Midweight Tight - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 25, 2009

A really solid midweight base. They fit true to size and don't bind or cling when you're on the trail or running. They won't be the warmest midweight you've ever owned, but they insulate great for the weight and the price.

great cool weather baselayer

Marmot Midweight Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Marmot Midweight Crew - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 18, 2009

Great midweight baselayer. Not the most "stink proof" shirt I've ever owned, but it's pretty decent. Wore it alone for a week in the Smokies with a light fleece and Columbia shell with temps in the 30's and I was plenty worn. We'll see how good it breathes this summer once it warms up a bit.

Decent Shoes

The North Face Crusade Multisport Shoe - Men's

The North Face Crusade Multisport Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 May 18, 2009

Had these shoes for just over a year and they're a real good dry-weather hiker. The sole ports are great for ventilation and draining water after a quick ford. They are light-weight and have great traction. I haven't had any problems with the eyelets breaking, they've held up well. However, they're not ideal if you're planning on wearing them around town or on extended hikes in semi-wet conditions- every puddle you step in will soak your socks. A great shoe for lightweight hiking in dry conditions.

Great Bag

Sea To Summit eVAC Dry Sack

Sea To Summit eVAC Dry Sack

Rating for this product: 5 April 1, 2009

Awesome breathable stuff sack, air flows out really freely through the mesh in the bottom...very well designed. Kept everything completely dry on a fairly damp hike through the Smokies. Obviously, because there are no compression straps, you're not going to be able to pack it down as small as physically possible if you're looking for something to compress a down sleeping bag or something along those lines...works great for a food/gear bag.
