Good but I expected it was tasteless

CamelBak Stoaway Hydration Reservoir

CamelBak Stoaway Hydration Reservoir

Rating for this product: 4 October 18, 2009

I was expecting this feature at the minimum, so I bought this brand to go assured. So far I have use it four times and used with only water on it and flavor gets continuously stained with some plastic flavor. I have kept it overnight with water on it and empty on the morning and filling it back before going out but still not good. I wonder if some more break-in is needed. Anyway may be this is a general problem on all bladders regardless the brand. Construction and materials is great and isolation keeps the frost away fine and there are no leaks and because in the end the main purpose is to keep you hydrated I still give it 4 stars.

CamelBak Stoaway Hydration Reservoir

Yes. Isolation can be removed and use the bladder without it. Actually removing is a must for deep cleaning of system at the end of the season.

Great Gloves (bullet proof)

DAKINE Apollo Glove

DAKINE Apollo Glove

Rating for this product: 5 October 1, 2009

Gloves are very warm and strong. I chose them because of the great quality and care for details that Dakine always does show with the backpacks. I was not wrong: the features, construction, materials and reinforcement are placed just where and how they are needed.
They require some minor break-in but they follow the shape of your hand very quickly (for me were two ski days plus one shoveling the car out of the snow).
Finally, I do not recommend to oversize on isolated gloves like this because like ski boots isolation material will pack a bit with use.

Nice Design Jacket for spring skiing

The North Face S.T.H. II Softshell Jacket - Men's

The North Face S.T.H. II Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 1, 2009

Pros: Nice Design and features. Especially the offset of the main zipper and the shaping that follows elbows contours. Left arm pocket is very practical too.

Cons: I would have preferred the Velcro-type cuff feature, which is more suitable for wind conditions and of course when you use it with gloves. In terms of isolation it does not feel warmer than the TNF Apex Bionic (...which is better priced by the way)

DAKINE Heli Pro 16L Backpack - 1000cu in

August 17, 2009

Penny, The Heli pro is designed primary for outdoor use and it is great on that but also specific. So I think there will be several features that will not be of much use at the office, such as the shovel holder, the diagonal Ski carrier, the ice axle sleeve and the like.
On the other hand, if you intend to carry a laptop it does not have ANY protective padding in the bottom or sides, nor folder compartments.
Conclusion: check other options before making a decision.

Black Diamond Fritschi Diamir Freeride Plus Binding

August 10, 2009

I have the FD+ mounted on a Legend 8800 (89 wide) and I am 5'7'' (158 lb). I did not noticed the extra height skiing In powder. On piste, it will partially help to compensate the difficulty that wide skis pose to carving, but the leverage is far lower than a regular piste ski with regular plates.
Besides, the lower weight is always appreciated on long touring walks or when you carry on your skis in your backpack.

Black Diamond Havoc Ski

March 21, 2009

I am 5'7/157 and currently have the Rossignol B3s as my all mountain ski and they are very versatile and loyal under all conditions, although it chatters at higher speeds. I ski pretty much everything under any conditions and I want to switch to AT and I wonder what ski to choose for 60~70/30~ out-in. The Havocs 165 seem to be very much what I am looking for, but as light skier I still would like to count with the responsiveness of the B3 on deep snow. Could someone advise?.
Other skis seen are: Mt.Baker, Rapid Transit and RT86. What do you think?. I am bit lost here as there are so many good options!

Comfort + Response, Great combination

Salomon Falcon 10 Ski Boot - Men's

Salomon Falcon 10 Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 2, 2008

I switch from the old Salomon Race Course (the one with 130 index) after +4 seasons of loyale service (usually ski +40 each season) and I was affraid that these boots could be too soft for the race feeling I like, but they are not.
The "stance" is same as the course but feel softer and lighter. The first day I used them, it was like having my feet numb, but I guess my previous boots were too packed and I probably missed the hurting for a while. The second day I felt much better as they started to pack and adjust. Finally (my case): almost no break-in needed and I still will get the Race-like-performance but without the pain
