Great mid layer

Mountain Hardwear Butter Zippy Top - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Butter Zippy Top - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 March 19, 2007

I love the soft feeling of this "butter" fabric. This top fits well and is a great light-weight mid layer. Nothing to complain about. Recommended for temps 50F and below.

Great all around day pack

JanSport Luna Daypack - Women's - 1550 cu in

JanSport Luna Daypack - Women's - 1550 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 March 19, 2007

I've been wanting a bag to bridge the gap between my hydro-pack and my backpacking pack -- something to carry more than H20 and lunch without all the bulk. This is perfect for my 5'2" frame; unisex packs ride too low. Comfortably holds lunch for two, extra layers, emergency kit, headlamp, compass, knife, maps, and a backpacking stove. The insulated pocket for a bladder really works -- our camp water froze but the water in this pack was fine. But be sure to keep your drinking hose tucked into the pocket to prevent ice! Bonus: this black pack has a brightly colored turquoise lining so that you can easily see what's inside. Interior pockets are useful. Totally love this pack!

Tells time.

Fortress The Small Drop Watch

Fortress The Small Drop Watch

Rating for this product: 3 March 19, 2007

This watch tells time, but there is no luminesence as advertised. Useless after dark. I didn't care for the mole-skin band or the italic numerals. Setting the calendar day was a nuisance -- you have to change the time a full 24 hours for every day that you need to move the calendar. This watch tells the time and seems durable.

Good fit, but fabric collects lint

Mountain Hardwear Arroyo Capri Pant - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Arroyo Capri Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 March 19, 2007

These are constructed well and have a great fit on my short waist. But the fabric collects lint like crazy. Minor annoyance. These wash and wear very well (drip dry or LOW dryer heat). Good pocket placement. Recommended for sure.

Black Diamond Terra CF Trekking Poles - 1 pair

Black Diamond Terra CF Trekking Poles - 1 pair

Rating for this product: 5 January 17, 2007

I got these for my trek down the Kaibab trail and back, and they lived up to the fan fare. They're super light weight and compact. The grips are comfortable and don't promote blisters. The locking mechanisms are easy to use and ultra-secure. These poles are definitely worth the few extra dollars.

The goose's golden egg

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 17, 2007

Light weight, warm, and water proof in mist, drizzle, and wet snow. You'll want a waterproof taped seam shell in a downpour -- which is pretty much how this jacket is advertised. Interior pocket can hold a 1 liter bottle or 2-liter bladder, though there's no easy way to route a drinking tube. Fleece lining on the inside of the collar and pockets is a luxury touch. Detachable hood and the water proofing are what make this jacket a step up from MSR's standard down parka. Wish it came in more colors. Had to settle for black. Women's small fits a 5'2", 125 lb petite woman perfectly.

The cat's pajamas!

SmartWool Synergy Tapered Leg Pant - Women's

SmartWool Synergy Tapered Leg Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 17, 2007

I love, love, love these pants. The low rise makes for a non-binding comfy fit. I wear these over a smart wool base layer and sometimes under soft-shell pants when I need that third layer on a cold 5F day. The thigh pocket is a plus for a spare key, tissues, or energy bar.
