La Sportiva Makalu Mountaineering Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 25, 2008

Even thow i haven't bought them from Backcountry have to say after 1.5 years these are one of the best mountaineering boots i owned , i had luck the break in period was on the 1st hike after that they never once failed me never leaked never got wet , i use a wax coating on the leather before each hike thow .
Tested them with few sorts of crampons and they do good , a thumbs up for the removable tongue and footbed to warm then when the weather reaches freezing temps cause the leather with get hard as a rock . All in all could not be more pleased with this product .

Alpax

CAMP USA Alpax Ice Tool

CAMP USA Alpax Ice Tool

Rating for this product: 4 February 25, 2008

K been using this axe for 2nd winter season now and i like it more then my older normal touring simond bronco axe . Alpax is great combined with a tehnical tool for alpine valleys when u need an axe to stabilize your walk there and then also help you climb that overhanging ledge. only downer i do not like is the small carabiner hole in the adze would have liked to it be a bit bigger to fit more sizes when making a ensuring point with 2-3 tools .

Good mitts

Outdoor Research Latitude Mitten

Outdoor Research Latitude Mitten

Rating for this product: 4 February 21, 2008

K have to say these are all round good mitts but if you get down to really nasty temperatures they lack insulation , i tested them on a 2 day hike and the temperature ranged form -17 C to
-5 the hottest and they lacked the insulation for these temps. They do however have great waterproofing both inside shell and outer shell and good and easy cinching system .
Also the inner shell seem to have good resistance to friction for when u belay .
All round a good pair of mittens .

Great stove

Primus Multifuel Stove

Primus Multifuel Stove

Rating for this product: 5 February 21, 2008

Tested this stove on -16 C temps and it melted snow and boiled it fairly fast on primus fuel just takes a small ammount of time to stabilize the intensity of the flame .
On propane butane gas it worked well too but for that i use a lighter smaller stove .
Great all round burner for almost all fuel types possible .

Great bundle

Highgear TerraTech Altimeter Watch

Highgear TerraTech Altimeter Watch

Rating for this product: 5 February 21, 2008

Have to say is my first altimeter watch i owned but it was put to the test on freezing temperatures for 2 days ranging from ( -17 to -5 max C it was attached to my backpack shoulder belt ) and it worked like a charm , the altimeter worked perfect the barometer had an minute difference (compared the pressure with a meteorological station reading and it was off by 1.8 mbar ) the display is great large easy to read and materials seem to be sturdy.
The compass is a great asset too just would be nice to stay bit more on then to go into standby mode after a short period .
A thumbs up for a very good price and a wide range of features .
