Oakley Minute Machine Watch

Oakley Minute Machine Watch

Rating for this product: 5 2 days ago

This is a very cool piece. Has a stop watch which is part of the second hand. So the second hand(red) doesn't move unless using the stop watch. Instead the seconds are moving in one of the other clock faces. Not that I use it, but its there if you do. Date and Glow in the dark hands basically round it out besides the bomber case it comes in. Comes in a few different wrist bands, looks like rubber and leather are all thats left on here. Many people like the look and make comments all the time, kinda what watches should be about besides telling good time. Have had no problems with function or battery. The face is big and the crystal has not scratched, this watch is very durable! I have had many Oakley watches over the years and this one rivals the Time Bomb.

Full Tilt Growth Spurt Ski Boots - Boys'

Full Tilt Growth Spurt Ski Boots - Boys'

Rating for this product: 5 November 9, 2009

What a great Idea! Making a kids ski boot that you can change the size of as they grow. So now you can save a buck or two for a year or two. Great to have a moldable liner which is warmer than the rest. A big problem with kids is they get cold and their feet hurt in traditional boots or used boots. Light weight and warm, your not going to go wrong here. Finally a solution to most kid boot problems.

Salomon STH 16 Ski Binding

Salomon STH 16 Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 October 25, 2009

I have used 916's for the past 20 years. They have gone from metal to more plastic and are very light. Still the lock in factor of these bindings is there. A nice thing is that you can get many different width brakes for the wider skis we have today, and changing them is fast and easy. They work well with Alpine Trekkers, where as others have complications. Full adjustments that some other bindings don't have, toe height, wing adjusters for one. Its a no brainer when it comes to these bindings. They stay on your feet, if they don't their not adjusted properly!

Oakley Seth Morrison Signature Crowbar Goggle

Oakley Seth Morrison Signature Crowbar Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 October 25, 2009

New graphic for the 09/10 season, skeleton dude crushing the mountain, its on the goggle bag as well. Overall low profile look with a closer touch of style. Crowbar fits in the helmet well besides fitting most faces and noses. Outriggers aid in helmet fit as well as help with even pressure across the entire face. Beads of silicone on the strap keep it in place on hat or helmet. G30 is my lens of choice, it really brings out the grays in shadows and flat light conditions. G30 may be on the bright side for the sunny days, but its ever changing out there and that lens covers my needs. If the inner lens get wet, don't wipe it. You will smear the anti fog coating and then there will be a cloudy permanent spot. Dabbing wetness out works but do it lightly, and let dry before you wipe the inner lens. As for fogging use common sense, wearing your goggles up on your head is just asking for it!

Oakley Puffy Down Jacket - Men's

Oakley Puffy Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 23, 2009

I have the black, its got a silver pattern on it that leaves plain behind in cold smoke. Fur is removable, but I like to leave it on. Venting is great and easy to use, mesh screen when opened is purple. There are wrist gaiter's, thumb loop and hand opening, lycra. Outer wrist closure is a retractable velcro strap/shell fabric with a rubber/soft plastic sewn in pull tab. Fleece lined lower front pockets are soft on the hands. The front storm flat is segmented and uses magnets for closure, they are super strong and make a cool "snap" sound as they lock together. There is an inside pocket behind the right lower front pocket thats a stuff sack for the jacket. Always have enjoyed the Oakley Puffys for the cold days or traveling about. Nice to have a snow skirt for the pow days. Inner lining is a printed nylon. Zipper pulls are a soft plastic built around metal zipper pull, solid jacket.

Oakley SI Assault 6in Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 22, 2009

Love these boots since they first came out years ago. I wear these in the winter rather than shoes or snow boots for daily life. Part of my travel kit when heading to AK. Have hiked in the snow in them many times and they work pretty well with that. After some use doing that, found I needed to re-waterproof them. The support and overall feel is perfect. The pair I'm currently using have lasted for 3 years. Best foot wear Oakley ever made. Overall style is timeless and has that military look, light weight which is key.

Living out of a Bag!

Oakley 60/40 Roller Bag - Large

Rating for this product: 5 October 21, 2009

Living out of a bag can be troubling sometimes, this roller bag is sweet. I like the fact that you can make it into 2 bags. With luggage rules on airlines these days it may come in handy. The split style is nice and easy, cool to have the bottom compartment larger than the top. This will give you a better fitting place for a helmet or your dirty laundry as the trip goes on. Filling this bag all the way is more for road trips by car unless you plan on splitting it. No problems with the wheels or telescoping handle. The inner compartments have small flat pockets in mesh so you can see the little things that you have put in there. External handles are in the right place. Small external pocket for things you want quick access to like your tooth brush. Does a good job standing up as long as you put the heavy stuff down low.

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Model Glove

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Model Glove

Rating for this product: 5 October 20, 2009

This is the last you'll see these gloves. My first glove with Hestra, we created a sleek all season offering. I have heard complaints about it being to thin, but for me I never had a problem with this. From the sub zero temps of CO in December to the peaks of Haines, AK in April I found it to be great for all temps. Its insulated with a Czone insert that acts as a wind barrier that breaths, like Gore Tex. This glove is lower on the wrist and should be worn under the wrist of the jacket. The last gloves I had, had one goggle wipe on one finger of the set, where as before it was on both. Slight padding on top of hand and fingers for protection. The reverse stitching gives a great feel on the hand unlike anything else other than Hestra. Be sure to use the waterproofing wax that comes with the gloves. It seals and waterproofs, makes a noticeable difference when this is done, warmer and drier. Redo as necessary. As stated if they are tight they will stretch out, its leather! Get them while they last.

Poles are Poles?

K2 V12 Ski Pole

K2 V12 Ski Pole

Rating for this product: 5 October 20, 2009

I am a big fan of these since they are a bit flexy, Nothing you will notice while pole planting, more for a crashing situation. I have had lighter stiffer carbon poles, but found on a fall or getting the pole jammed in between logs or rocks the lighter stiffer poles shatter. Having a flex gives this pole durability and longevity. Part of the freeride line these poles fit the mold with chrome handles with a rubber grip inlay, pyramid studs on leather part of the nylon straps for a bit of style. Easy to change baskets from hard snow to powder as your season changes. Poles are poles, but you get what you pay for.

Put them on, you'll like the feel!

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Glove

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Glove

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2009

This a complete redesign for 09/10. Padded fingers and top of hand for some protection from trees and what ever else the hand may hit. The combo of cowhide and goat leather give a soft and supple feel. Reverse stitching on fingers and hand make the feel inside most noticeable from any other glove, comfort, no wadded up leather restricting movement and making your hand and fingers uncomfortable. Side zip for easy entry and nose wipe on thumb. Insulated and a waterproof breathable insert to add to the warmth. Higher on the wrist than my past glove and also comes with wrist cuffs so you can take gloves off and let them hang from the wrist, removable as well.

I highly recommend using the waterproofing wax that comes with the gloves. This helps make them warmer and seals the thread holes in the leather, it's very noticeable if you do this. After some time you should do it again. Enjoy!

The Bare essentials.

Black Diamond Bandit with Avalung Winter Pack - 690cu in

Rating for this product: 5 October 16, 2009

I was stoked when this pack came out a few years. It is small and thats why I like it. As you can see the plaid print stands out, and stands out, important in the backcountry environment. This a day pack for skiing out access gates at your local ski area, or for carrying around some gear while skiing the area, perfect for snowcat skiing or making those dreamed about heli runs. The avalung is built in, why not? Why wouldn't you want this? To me its as important as your beacon. Last year was a prime example that slides can occur inbounds at resorts. Another tool that takes up zero space when its built right into your pack.

Look at the pic to see what I can fit into the pack, this is the max. The ski carry needs to have the lower loop as tight as possible to the ski, you can preset and tuck away in its opening from the pack. Then on the upper removable strap make sure the strap goes under your lowest part of the toe piece and make it tight as possible. Having it set up this way will have the tails as high up as possible so as to not hit the back of your legs. The shovel goes upside down in the pack, works perfectly with the Black Diamond Deploy 3 Shovel.

Mind you this pack is for short trips, and can be an everyday pack for the other listed activities, rarely do I use anything bigger. Depends what you like to bring and if your spending the night out in the field.

Powder Delight!

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 14, 2009

This ski is part of my quiver, small quiv of 2. Besides the performance of these skis in Powder I like the graphics from year to year. When riding the lifts as a single I find people either talk about them or are to scared to say a word to you when they see them on your feet. Schmies once again came up with a great graphic.

Now for the action, Mount mine with the boot center at +6, you may want to move back a cm or so if you have a larger foot, I'm a 25. You need to be more forward on these to be more centered in the rocker and the fact that the tail is slightly softer than the tip. The reason behind this is that The Hellbent is designed to land or ride switch in powder. The ski is forgiving and the amount of rocker is the most in the k2 line up. Seeing that this ski has a standard side cut and camber underfoot it still turns and holds an edge on the groomers or firm snow heading back to the lift after your face shot adventure. I like to use this ski when its very deep, but you still can enjoy it with just a few inches of powder. The width and rocker help flotation so much that at speed you will be skimming the surface, unless you weigh alot obviously. The skis measure much longer, (5cm's) than what the side wall states, don't let this discourage you, they ski more like the stated size. Rocker makes them feel shorter thats why they are longer so as to be true to size. In tree pow they are quick and nimble. You'll be surprised how lively they are when you want to pop off a little roll or bump on the way down in powder. I ride the 189 and weigh 155, more like 175 with pack and all the ski gear on.

I tell people skis like this will take 10 years off your life. After a powder day or your first pow run on them you'll know what I mean. Its like being a little kid, you will have the feeling of getting on fat skis for the first time all over again.

A Must have

Oakley Alps Pant - Men's

Oakley Alps Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 13, 2009

Part of the "Pro Series" collection. Technical piece that Tanner and I worked on with Oakley Designers. And the designers did what we wanted 100% of the way. This is the best ventilation on a pant I have ever used, the horse shoe inner leg vent looks hidden and the side vents with no mesh and water proof zippers dump heat and moisture in a big way. Pocket location is great, with zipper entry and button snap flap to help keep your valuables secure. There is an inner cuff saver snap to help save the bottom edge of the pants as you stroll from parking lot to lifts. The material is a shell eVent 3 layer which rivals Gore's breathability, waterproofness and wind resistance . This pant can zip to the Alps jacket snow skirt to make a one piece unit, or you can snap it on to the jacket snow skirt as well as other Oakley Jackets, but the zip together is only on certain pieces. It can be a bit tough to get either of these systems connected, but after a bit of practice your golden for those deep days or cliff drops, where crashing may occur. Who wants snow coming in from those experiences? Not Me. There are belt loops, I wear a belt, but there also are some velcro waist adjusters on each to tighten up your show.Simple and clean the way we wanted. Very light pant! Fit is baggy, but true to size, so if your a L get and L. I used the Purple and Black last season, Purple is the new Black.

Best Oakley Jacket to Date.

Oakley Alps Jacket - Men's

Oakley Alps Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 12, 2009

Worked with Tanner and Oakley designers on this one for the Pro Rider Series, a small collection 100% influenced by a small group of riders. Obviously this a High Performance piece. 3 Layer eVent material, rivals Gore in breathability, waterproofness and wind resistant. My favorite part of the jacket is the offset 2 way front zipper. Being on the side of the face leaves a nice and smooth chin area. Plenty of pockets, the cargos above the waist have snaps for quick and easy access for your camera or whatever else you need quickly, thats where I like to put mine. Nice venting, a small one under the arm is kinda hidden but helps for more air flow or air escape when main vents are open.

This jacket is a blend between Mountaineering and Park. So its a loose fit shell with lots of features. We wanted to keep a stylish look, not fitted. Another nice feature is the powder shirt, there is a zipper on the bottom edge so you can zip it to the waist line of the Alps pant and a few others in the Oakley line, thus making a one piece for those deep powder days or times your sending it and may possibly Tomahawk. Its a bit tricky to use at first but after some use you'll figure out your system to do it up quickly. There are also snaps on the shirt so you can connect to more Oakley pants other than the Alps, and this is pretty easy after some practice.

I've been on many testing trips over the years and know the drill of what we can do to gear between athletes needs and retail needs. This is the best we've done to date. Stoked to have all the input used on this one.

Once you go Hestra you'll never use any other brand.

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Model 3-Finger Glove

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Model 3-Finger Glove

Rating for this product: 5 October 11, 2009

As the add says I like to use the best stuff. I went to Hestra looking for a glove sponsor because they are the best. Tried them on and the fit was comfy, unlike any other glove mostly due to having the seams exposed rather than inside the fingers, gives the glove the seamless feel.

This is a new design for my glove this year. Much more insulation for those that felt the last glove was to thin. I like the Lobster/3 Finger the most. The inner fingers are separated but you still have the use of your index finger unlike a mitten, but you have the warmth of a mitten. The combo of leathers gives this glove a soft supple feel on the outside. Top of the hand, fingers, and wrist is a bit of padding for protection. Small side zip for easy entry and a clean look on the longer wrist. C-zone insert for for wind a moisture protection. Thumb nose wipe and removable wrist straps round out this glove.

I must stress using the water proof wax that comes with the gloves, its just enough for the first application. Taking the time to do this seals the glove from wind going through the seams and needle holes besides waterproofing. It makes the glove a bit darker as well.

All Mountain Performance!

K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

K2 ObSETHed Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 10, 2009

From the white strip of death at Loveland to the deep powder peaks of Alaska, this is my tool of choice. Through the evolution of this ski the graphics have changed, the skis has gotten wider and rocker has been added. Year after year they get better.

Many people have the misconception that rocker is for "Powder Only". In fact its not, some rocker is made specifically for the deep powder like what you see on a Hellbent or a Pontoon. It doesn't mean those skis with that kind of rocker won't perform well on hard pack. Think of it as your ski is already bent how it would be going through the start of your turn. Rocker makes the ski react slower at the beginning of the turn on hardpack, something you will quickly get used to. K2 has made specific rocker for the skis general use. The amount of rocker on the ObSethed is just enough to give you a catch free edge feel in hardpack and crusty top skins of snow. Also enough to add to flotation initiation in powder.

Seeing its width the ski holds well on firm conditions as in groomers, you can ski bumps, but not the zipper line so much. I make bigger turns and ski the tops where the snow is usually softer out here in the west. If they are firm why bother. This ski is made to be an everyday ski, if it's super deep or you want to ski moguls all the time, you most likely want to have skis tailored for that specific part of skiing.

As for mounting, the ObSethed is 3cms longer than the Pistols and Vicious versions. The rocker is why its this way, since rocker makes a ski, ski shorter. K2 makes their rocker skis a bit longer than what the length actually says. The "traditional" point is where you want to go with if your not into being forward on the ski. After that I would not go more than plus 3 from there if your skiing out west. Most people go with "traditional".

On another note the waist width stays the same on all lengths of the ObSethed, were as other companies get narrower as they get smaller. The core profile is all that changes from the sizes. 189 and 179 are totally different in that respect, think size of the skier and making the ski forgiving for that individual.

All I Will Ever Use!

Full Tilt Seth Morrison Pro Model Ski Boot - Men's

Full Tilt Seth Morrison Pro Model Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 9, 2009

For me these boots are it. Proud to have been able to work with Full Tilt and come up with this boot. The art is done by Josh Malay, he did the first 3 K2 Seth Pistol's art work. He passed away in Andorra 5 years ago in a snowboarding accident. So we have been keeping his dream alive by having his art on this boot in a Punk fashion.

I have been in this boot for my entire Pro career, even ski racing in them as a teen. Skied in this shell as it changd hands from Raichle, Kneissl to today's Full Tilt. Full Tilt has taken it to the next level with graphics and offering different performance tongues, and created their own Liners through Intuition.

Is a timeless boot and has been copied by other companies, but you can't beat the lightness where the others have failed. The full forward flex with a floating rear cuff keeps shin bang to a distant memory. Liners mold to every nock and cranny of your foot as well as the shell making booting an ease and keeping your foot toasty. Foam liners may be stiffer, but don't come close to the fit. If you have the foot for Full Tilt give them a try.
