Does anyone else feel really uncomfortable about Backcountry.com trying to get us to use our real names in reviews now? What marketing "whiz kid" thought that one up. Very awkward, cut that shit out backcountry - an online retailer can't afford to make shoppers uncomfortable.

I'm a securities attorney, so it's great to get out and feel free and alone when I ski or hike.

true backpacking tent

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 5 July 31, 2011

light, convenient, easy to set up - but quite tight for 2 large-in-the-shoulders people to share.

Love it for backpacking, as long as my tent-mate is tiny.

North Face is a gamble

The North Face A5 Motoring Pant - Men's

The North Face A5 Motoring Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 September 24, 2007

I bought these pants, and got to wear them for exactly 1 night before one of the studs holding the top corner of a back pocket simply fell off. Cloth wasn't ripped, stitching was intact, pants are still good except now there's a weird white dot of adhesive where the stud was.

Otherwise the pant is good, oddly warm actually. It's a very soft and plush kind of canvas that.... feels much nicer AND much warmer than canvas.

I think it's important to remember with North Face that their good stuff is in the A5 Summit series etc and that the rest of their stuff is more yuppy fodder.

Huge Comfort for a GREAT price

MontBell Super Stretch Burrow #0 Sleeping Bag: 3 Degree Synthetic

MontBell Super Stretch Burrow #0 Sleeping Bag: 3 Degree Synthetic

Rating for this product: 4 September 24, 2007

Let me say upfront I haven't had a chance to test this bag at near zero temps yet and that I haven't slept in it wet, so I can't speak to how realistic its claims of 3 degree rating is.

But the bag is WARM, crazy warm and I doubt montbell would lie and say their bag held 80% heat even when wet if it didn't.

The key to this bag is that it stretches with you so you never feel confined. Hood is burly and u can fit a tiny pillow into it and still have the hood snug over your head just fine. Bag seems durable, and is extremely, extremely comfortable.

If you hate the confined feel of some other mummy bags, but don't want to get a bigger bag and heat up all that empty space this is the ideal solution.
