Katadyn Vario Dual Technology MicroFilter

Katadyn Vario Dual Technology MicroFilter

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2009

Using the faster flow does shave off pumping time if that's what you need. Switching between the two modes takes just a couple twists and turns. The ceramic prefilter is great for removing sediment in dirt filled water. If that gets too mucked up take off the top and give it a wipe or two and you'll be good to go again. The third stage filter is the active carbon core reducing chemicals and bad taste which is certainly a plus. It screws on to the top of nalgene wide=mouth bottles and can hook up to your Camelbak hose so you don't have to remove it from your pack. Sweet!

Eureka K-2 XT Tent 3-Person 4-Season

Eureka K-2 XT Tent 3-Person 4-Season

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2009

Cold or hot. Rain or snow. This one has you covered. With the ample mesh vents and doors you can let the breeze, views and stars all come rolling in. Seal out the elements when needs be. The fly is super strong and has tons of attachment loops as well as guy out lines/attachments. Only draw back is the weight. However you're certainly getting a lot if you buy this tent. Great buy for sure.

Merrell Traverse Backpacking Boot - Men's

Merrell Traverse Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 2, 2009

I originally settled on these boots because they're made to carry heavier loads. They offer great support and stability over uneven terrain. The soles are pretty sticky too if you're on rock. I will typically wear a liner sock and did so when I broke these in. The break in period was fast and I never had any blistering or discomfort. In fact for my feet which are very wide they've always felt great. I bought a half size larger to make up for the extra bulk of the liner sock and the over sock (liners are recommended to be worn with this boot my the manufacturer). I have seen other reviews stating that the boots are not water proof, perhaps there's some inconstancy between pairs. I have walked through streams with them many times and haven't experienced any leakage at all. Again, maybe they are not all made equally, my laces have plenty of extra length. Mine do me well.
