MSR Tyker Snowshoes - Kids'

I have the Denali Evo and love them so I was disappointed that my 6 year old does not like these. He noticed immediately that his heals did not lift and mine did. It appears to be awkward for him to walk with them this way. I like the MSR shoes but wish I went with a kid shoe that has this feature. Otherwise they work well and are simple

Great snowshoe!

MSR Denali Evo Ascent Snowshoe

I love these for simple effective performance I can rely on. The heel lift is great but you need to be flexible to pop it up or down in action. They grab well and keep me out of the deep snow of Washington. I'm 200 lbs and have not used the tails yet but usually use my split board in the deep soft powder. The size and weight of these make the decision to bring them along on hikes easier so you use them more. Warning, lots of sharp points on these due to the effective metal tread and chisel front on them.

Not Warm, Not Soft, Too Bulky

Therm-a-Rest Ridge Rest Deluxe Sleeping Pad

I thought this would be the solution to getting good insulation and protection from the snow with a lightweight pad. Wrong, it is only R2.5 rated and does not keep me warm enough without a bag with a temp rating better than conditions. The pad is quite light but you pay a price in bulk that make your pack awkward. I am going back to my guide light inflatable and with suck up the additional pound of weight to have a softer, warmer pad that fits inside my pack or at least easily on the outside.
