Smith Phenom goggles

Smith Phenom Goggle

Smith Phenom Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 March 11, 2010

Got these with the Sensor mirror lenses. In a word, they are phenomenal! The lenses are perfect for low/flat light. The goggles are very comfortable and the ventilation works well. Having said that, two things: 1. I had to get the Smith helmet extender; before that, when I'd "park" the goggles at the front of the helmet, they would flip to the back. 2. I ordered the RC 36 lenses for sunny conditions. I had understood that it is fairly easy/fast to swap lenses on the Phenom frame, but the directions that came with the new lenses didn't help me much. I'm going to take goggles and lenses to my local ski store this weekend and ask for help. I'm sure that once I get the hang of it, it will not be hard.

I think I have an answer to my own question. I went on the Smith website. The Phenom lenses are also "Carbonic-X with TLT Optics". The Phenom lens is spherical but the Fuse lens is not.

Smith Phenom Goggle

January 6, 2010

The Phenom's lens is described on the Backcountry site as "polycarbonate", while the (cheaper) Smith Fuse's lens is described as "Carbonic-X lens with TLT Optics". Sounds like the Fuse has better lenses. True? Also, am I right that neither has a spherical lens?
Thanks.

Smith Phenom Goggle

How easy is it to switch lenses on the Smith Phenom? Do I need special tool? Is this something I could do during lunch at the base lodge? Or on the slopes? Thanks.
