Backcountry.com Stoic Inbounds Glove - Men's

October 29, 2009

I feel like a lot of people think that this glove is "snug" out of the box, when in fact this is not the case. The glove does fit very true to the sizing chart and does not stretch much, however the CUFF of the glove is in fact very tight. Once you get the cuff of the glove over your wrist it fits PERFECT. If the glove feels short anywhere, size up, if by "snug" you are talking about the CUFF of the glove being very tight..it does loosen up over time..but will always be tight.

Armada JJ Ski

October 26, 2009

S7 floats more in the traditional sense of a fat ski. The rocker allows it to charge hard and float even better. Makes crud feel softer. Washes out on groomers and traverses.

JJ carves great on groomers. Surfs rather than floats in pow. Cuts up crud.

Line Eric Pollard Pro Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 28, 2009

I haven't ever skied the EP pro in the conditions it was meant for. I have skied other similar skis in those conditions so I know that this ski would absolutely kill it in deep pow. I did get to use these skis in the park though. They were pretty fun, I could nose/tail press things so easy, even did a few 50-50 presses on some picnic tables. They killed it. I hope I can try them in the deep soon!

Oakley Splice Goggle

Oakley Splice Goggle

Rating for this product: 5 September 28, 2009

I have used the A-Frame, Wisdom, and Crowbar consistently over the last few years. I love everything about Oakley goggles, and this is no exception. They fit very similarly to the Oakley Crowbar, but with an increased field of vision both downward and peripherally. The nose bridge is soooooo comfortable and makes it even easier to breath. And because the lens only has 5 contact points it is easier to swap the lens out. I am thinking about selling some of my Crowbars in order to buy these!

Oakley Jupiter Sunglasses

Oakley Jupiter Sunglasses

Rating for this product: 3 September 28, 2009

I usually really like Oakley. I own more Oakley stuff than the average person. However, I don't really like these sunglasses. They are supposed to be an "updated frogskin" but they seriously don't do the Frogskin justice. They have a deeper curve above the eyebrows that make them look more like women's sunglasses than Men's 80's sunglasses. I do like how solid of construction they are, but for $100-$110 I would much rather invest in some frogskins. They are Oakleys though, so their optics are better than any other companies. If you like the way they fit, get them..but for me, they aren't working.

This shirt fits just slightly longer and less boxy that most XL shirts. I really like that. Also, how many people do you see walking around with sunglasses on their shirt, granted that it does make you feel weird if you wear anything else but frogskins while sporting this shirt. Deep Snow

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 28, 2009

This is a really fun ski in Really deep, really soft snow. The ski floats amazingly well, pops off of everything, and stomps hard. This ski can turn pretty well on groomers. But outside of powder you won't really ever want to ski on this ski. From the whole rocker lineup this is one of the least versatile skis on the market. But, you cannot deny how much fun they are in really deep snow. Oh, and if you try to drop something too big or land backseat at all..you will end up on your back.

Great Versatility

Rossignol Ravyn Telemark Ski

Rossignol Ravyn Telemark Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 28, 2009

These skis are very versatile. They are fairly lightweight for their size. 110mm underfoot lets them rock on any terrain. I wish that they were a tad stiffer for really charging hard in crud though. Most telemarkers won't find the softer flex to be an issue. I use this ski strictly for alpine. For not being rockered they ski pow amazingly well. They are stable at moderate to high speeds. Turn well on hardpack. These are the exact same ski as the Rossignol Steeze as well as current and previous versions of the Rossignol S6.

Moment Bibby Pro Model Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 28, 2009

The 186 Bibby is a lot of fun. It is a medium flex ski (slightly softer than the Rossignol S6). It carves on hard pack fine, but where it really shines is in pow. This thing has enough rocker to really surf around, and its flex is really playful. This is a true backcountry jib ski. If you want to add rocker to your lineup. Have a ski that is still versatile. A ski that you can jump with and land switch in pow with. Check out the bibby 186 for sure!

Turns Crud into Pow

Rossignol S7 Barras Ski

Rossignol S7 Barras Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 28, 2009

These things have enough rocker to really surf in pow, but they are stiff enough underfoot to make crud feel like pow. Seriously, these are one of the most fun rockered skis on the market. They work everywhere, from pow, to crud, to ice, to groomers, to...well, they don't work too awesome in moguls, but what do you expect from a 115mm ski?

Yakima Tube Top Frame Adapter

Yakima Tube Top Frame Adapter

Rating for this product: 4 May 29, 2009

It is always a little unnerving to throw your multi-thousand dollar investment onto a $35.00 piece of plastic/composite/whatever, especially when the maiden voyage involves 80mph speeds on a windy freeway. However, this little bar got the job done! It does hold the top tube of my bike a little too close to the rack arms itself (has caused some scuffs to my steed), which I don't like..this is probably the only reason I gave it a 4/5. That might be my racks fault though, as it is a home made hitch rack and isn't designed as well as Yakima or Thule makes them. There is no locking mechanism on the telescoping part of the tube top, but it stays steady somehow. There are pins on the ends which keeps your seat post and handle bars from slipping out the side. I have read a few reviews online which say that you need to make sure your seat post is all the way tightened, or else your bike might fall off the rack. I have kept mine tight so far and have had no problems whatsoever, but for everyone reading this..keep that fact in mind.

P.S. my horizontal top tube length is 22.5 inches, and this fits fine with tons of room to spare.

Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel

Nikwax Footwear Cleaning Gel

Rating for this product: 5 May 29, 2009

This cleaner works really well and is very easy to use. I had a pair of white leather shoes that I had to wear biking a few times before I got my new biking shoes. The inside heel of each shoe was almost completely black. After just getting the shoe damp and rubbing the footwear cleaning gel via the rough sponge applicator tip on the bottle, almost all of the black completely disappeared. For how little this costs compared to how much you spend on new shoes, this is definitely worth the money in order to rejuvenate your old pair of kicks.

Rating for this product: 4 May 26, 2009

This watch is not the best altimeter watch on the market. I don't feel like it is very accurate. I have to adjust the altitude and compass more than one should have to. Other than that, it works better than not having an altimeter at all. It fits well. It reads time easily. It is easy to use and to adjust. Fairly intuitive design. If you find this watch at a discounted price it is worth buying, if not, I would not pay $200 for it.

Marker Jester Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 4 May 1, 2009

This binding is leaps and bounds ahead of anything else that Marker offers. That being said, they are still not my favorite ski binding..period. I don't feel like their elasticity is high enough. I feel like they ski too high off of the ski (unless you are skiing a ski that is 140mm wide or you are solely carving then this binding feels really high off of the ski). The binding is however light and fairly durable, but overpriced and poor spring elasticity in my opinion. 8/10

Dynastar Legend Pro XXL Alpine Ski 08/09

Dynastar Legend Pro XXL Alpine Ski 08/09

Rating for this product: 5 May 1, 2009

I only got to ride these for 1 run in really really really heavy spring pow. I rode the 194 length. I am 5'10" 170lbs and they were too big for me (considering how stiff they are). The visibility was really low, so I was a little tentative on fully charging the crud/slush pow, but they handled great. I am used to a ski that likes to surf pow, these more just like to go down the fall line as fast as possible. I was having a little trouble getting the hang of them, but it turned out to be the snow conditions because even on my home court skis I wasn't having the best day. I would love to try these again in more ideal conditions.

Cool Design - Oakley Sideways

Oakley Sideways Sunglasses

Oakley Sideways Sunglasses

Rating for this product: 5 May 1, 2009

I don't own these sunglasses but I have tried them on and my input is most likely valuable since nobody else has reviewed them yet.

These fit slightly narrower on the face than the more popular Oakley Gascan or Oakley Twitch sunglasses. That being said. Oakley gascans fit perfectly on my face, and although the sideways is more narrow they still fit fine. One really nice feature of the Sideways is that it uses a metal hinge rather than a plastic or internal hinge that you will find on other glasses. Oakleys are already very durable glasses, and with a metal hinge they will be even more so. The brown color is awesome, except the blue highlights on it make you appear to have blue eyebrows.

I want these glasses.

GoPro Helmet HERO Wide Camera

Pros: Low Price. Waterproof case. Compact

Cons: Cheap design. No LCD. Hard to find buttons and know what they mean. After using it for a few months the images became very "strobey". Low imagae quality. They should bump this up to 640x480 atleast if not 1280x720 video resolution.

If you absolutely positively must have a helmet camera and you are on a budget, or you want something really small that you don't have to carry bulky separate recorder, then this is a good option for you, but beware that the image quality is not all that great.

Burton AK 2L Stagger Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 1, 2009

Pros: Best looking pants I own. XL fits super baggy. Gore-tex is 100% waterproof and almost 10% windproof. Pants are very breathable.

Cons: Very thin material rips easily, especially against ski edges, walking and letting the pants drag, and if you fall on a rail.

These are some of my favorite pants. They have tons of vents. Tons of pockets. Very baggy fit. Neon colors. Awesome price. Goretex! Get some!

Rossignol S7 Caballero Alpine Ski

Rossignol S7 Caballero Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 May 1, 2009

These are hands down one of the most fun skis I have ever used. In super deep pow there are some other skis that I would say are more fun, but all in all this ski rides the whole mountain better than almost any other ski out there.

Pros: Turns Crud into Pow, Turns easily but not too easily, Floats well, stomps everything

Cons: Narrower tail makes them feel sloppy on traverses and really hard pack. They don't float quite as well in super deep pow as you would expect them too. Nose flops a little bit.

Similar Items Used: Armada JJ, Moment Bibby

All in All: If you want one ski that can do everything on the mountain (even surprisingly pipe, but not rails) well, then this ski is for you. I would say it is best for someone that skis about 40% crud, 40% powder, 30% everything else. If you ski at Jackson, Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, Tahoe, or anywhere else similar...check these out for sure!

Head Skis USA Head J.O. Pro Alpine Ski

April 8, 2009

These skis are super super super soft, but still really really poppy and also way light. Remember that a ski that butters really well won't stomp landings very well, so you will have a bit of a tradeoff. This ski is light, but more poppy than buttery, so it can still stomp fairly well. If you want something kind of in between check out the AR6 or the Suspects. Those are both the skis that JF Houle was able to get nose butter 270's on in Dew Tour and was still able to stomp his jumps with because those skis are so legit. Honestly though, this ski is a nice contender.

The pipe cleaner will be a little stiffer. I would also check out the Look PX12, Rossi SAS2 120, Rossi SAS2 140, or Look PX 14. The suspect is a sick ski though, you will probably like it. The Pipe cleaner is also way sick, just a bit stiffer.

Look PX 15 FS WB Ski Binding

March 31, 2009

These are a great binding for Line Blends if you are a very very advanced skier, the downside to this binding is that is weighs a bit more than some bindings in the PX line. This is because this binding is really burly and made out of alot of metal, so very advanced skiers require this type of construction. If you haven't broken alot of bindings, or are more of an expert skier as opposed to a very advanced/pro skier, you would probably like the Look PX 14 or the Rossignol SAS 140 ti a little bit better!

Dalbello Sports Krypton Pro I.D. Ski Boot

March 31, 2009

Ian, you are comparing apples to oranges. But here is a quick comparison.

If you are looking at the Dalbello Krypton Pro I.D. then the most comparable boot from Full Tilt would be the Konflict. why? Both the Krypton Pro and the Konflict feature the stiffest tongues offered by both companies, but they also both feature a softer tongue that you can switch out for park skiing.

If you are looking at the Full Tilt Hot Dogger, then the most comparable Dalbello boot would be the Dalbello Il Moro, which has a softer flex than the Pro I.D. as does the Hot Dogger.

Keep this in mind, if you get the Konflict you get an 8/10 flex tongue and a 4/10 flex tongue...if you buy the Hot Dogger you only get a 4/10 flex tongue.

Full Tilt Hot Dogger Ski Boot - Men's

March 31, 2009

Hi Brad,

The last is the exact same as the last which was used in the Raichle Flexon Comp. I also used to ski in that boot. The shell thickness is just as thick, and is actually one of the thicker shell materials on the market, which is great if you need custom work done on the boot. If you had a Raichle Full Wrap liner you will notice that this new Full Tilt liner is actually an upgrade in performance, but just as customizable. As far as the flex goes, Flexons were always completely interchangeable with their stiffness. Some tongues have numbers 1-10 on them (inside part of the tongue), if you can find that number it will be easier to tell, if not you will have to take a guess by flexing it in your hands. A stiffer tongue..6-10 flex will be fairly difficult to flex by pushing your hands together. A softer flex will be quite easy.

One really really good option for you would be to go with the Full Tilt Konflict boot. I say this because that specific boot comes with 2 tongues, an 8/10 flex (their stiffest tongue) and a 4/10 flex (same stiffness as the Hot Dogger). The Konflict comes with the same active (rubber) boot board as the Hot Dogger which means it will help to soak up impacts. The Konflict has their highest density liner, which means it is a stiffer liner, but also will not pack out as quickly, and it features the stronger aluminum cable anchors for added durability. Here is a link to the Konflict:

Volkl Wall Alpine Ski

March 31, 2009

I would go for the Volkl Wall over the STL. If you do want a 4frnt ski, the TNK is more comparable to the Volkl Wall. The STL is heavier and stiffer than the Wall, and is generally thought of as more of an all mountain ski. The TNK is also stiffer than the wall, but skis great in the park. The Volkl Wall is great for anyone spending 90% or more of their time in the park, as it has a medium flex, fully symmetrical shape and flex, and low swing weight.

Lib Technologies NAS Park Alpine Ski

March 31, 2009

Hi. As part of Lib Tech's marketing design for this NAS (Narrow Ass Snowboard) they say that you buy one narrow snowboard..i.e. Ski (for a premium price, around what you pay for 1 pair of skis...$698.95), and since you can't just ride 1 individual ski they will give you a 2nd for free. So, to sum that up, you buy 1 ski for $698.95 and you get 2nd ski for free.... To save you a headache backcountry.com just made it easier and sells the pair for one retail price!

Hellbents are Great

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

K2 Hellbent Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 March 20, 2009

These skis are great in the deep snow conditions they are meant for. One complaint is that it is a bit harder to find the sweet spot when dropping cliffs, since the tail rocker wants to throw you way backseat. Other than that, they float really well in super deep pow, and they are way buttery. This is not the ski for someone who wants to be skiing super fast really hard in crud, but it is the ski for someone skiing more mellow slopes, pillows, etc in super deep pow. Oh yeah, and they carve really well on groomers too.

Marker Duke Ski Binding

Marker Duke Ski Binding

Rating for this product: 5 March 20, 2009

I was afraid to use this binding while skiing really hard, because it is a touring binding. Although the plate makes it feel stiffer underfoot so you can't feel the ski flex as much, it isn't THAT noticeable. This is hands down the first touring binding I would buy if I needed one that can handle skiing more than it can handle climbing. I have not used the AT feature on this binding yet.

Backcountry.com Stoic Inbounds Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 29, 2009

The Backcountry.com Inbounds Glove is my favorite glove. No, it isn't goretex. No, it isn't super insulated, but that doesn't matter with this glove. The Leather is really thick, but not bulky feeling at all. This is honestly the best fitting glove I have ever used. I usually wear a medium-large in most gloves and i wear a size medium in this glove. My hand is 7.5 inches long and 8 inches around. On warm days they can get a little sweaty but they liner dries out super quick because it is Merino Wool. I have used this glove 10 or 12 times and it is holding up great. The cuff will feel tight at first and hard to get on, but it stretches out over time and becomes easier to get on your hand. Once it is on your hand it feels great! I can't say enough good about this glove.

That is a great question. I wear a size 10 in the Hestra Seth Morrison glove and I wear a size Medium in this glove. I put on a size small, but it just didn't cut it. The Medium is still a great dexterous fit and is very warm. My hand is 8.0 inches in perimeter and is 7.5 inches long. The medium fits great. Bill Hartlieb threw some information down below:I have a 9 inch palm, and I wear a large. for a 8.2, a medium would be a roomy and warm fit, a small would be a tight dextrous fit.

Full Tilt Konflict Ski Boot - Men's

January 13, 2009

The biggest I could find, was a 31.0 mondo, or size 13. You could talk directly to Full Tilt Boots to see if they have any though.www.fulltiltboots.comFull Tilt does their sizing a little bit different in comparison to regular ski boots. First, you have to realize that there is no such thing as half sizes in ski boots. Second, you need to know that Full Tilt boots fit about half a size larger (if there were such a thing) than regular ski boots. So, the size 31.0 just might work...

These fit pretty true to size. I have a regular-sized palm and long fingers and usually go with either a large or a medium ... I went with a medium and they fit great. I just tried these on I wear a Medium as I would with most gloves. I would liken these to a Hestra size 9 and a Dakine size M. Hope that helps you out.Go with the medium for sure. I am somewhere between Medium and Large, I wear a large in Head and Dakine Gloves generally, but the Medium in the Backcountry.com Inbounds Glove fits perfectly.

Rating for this product: 5 December 31, 2008

I have only gotten to ski this ski once so far. All I can say is "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking some up." Seriously, they are probably the best 1 ski quiver ski that I have ever handled (for Snowbird/Alta that is). They carve fine on groomers, better than the ARG. They float and surf awesome in deep pow, and they are stiff enough to handle crud without a problem. I don't know if it gets any better than this.

K2 Extreme Alpine Ski

December 30, 2008

Ya, but K2s measuring is interesting. They measure to about 184 in skis from any other company. Most companies measure the bottom of a ski, which means they are measuring the longest distance on the ski. Since the ski tips up in tip and tail the are also measuring that area that is off of the snow. K2 measures the length of the top sheet of the ski including the tip and tail. The difference between the top of the ski and the bottom of the ski is a few cm, which means that 179 in K2 is really about a 184 in other brands.

This Ski is the exact same ski as the 2008 Scratch Ghetto WRS. This ski still has the same construction, same base, same dimensions, and same core material. Line Anthem Alpine Ski

December 14, 2008

Because this ski is fairly soft it will work for you. Generally a beginner skier will want a softer ski so that they can initiate turns easier. However, in the case of this ski also being a little bit fatter in dimensions, you won't have any trouble progressing off of the trail a little bit too. Once you improve to become an advanced skier, you will most likely want a stiffer ski. For your height/weight and ability level I would say that a 165-170 would be ideal, but you could probably get away with the 171. It will probably feel a little long at first though.

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

I skied this ski at The Canyons today. They only had one run open and part of it was a park. The ski was a little bit stiffer than I expected...but it still slayed it. It skis a little bit more like a big mountain ski than a park ski..but it definitely handled the park fine. Line Anthem Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

The Line Anthem is a pretty sick ski. Fairly light and easy to do switch up's with. I wouldn't recommend this ski for carving hard at high speeds on groomers, but that isn't what it is made for. It is a cool ski cause even though it is 90 underfoot it doesn't feel like it at all. The graphic reminds me of Adam Sandler in the Wedding Singer. This is a better park ski than I ever imagined it to be.

Dalbello Krypton Pro I.D. is SICK!

Dalbello Sports Krypton Pro I.D. Ski Boot

Dalbello Sports Krypton Pro I.D. Ski Boot

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

This is probably the best boot I have ever used. 3 piece boots like Dalbello and Full tilt make are the past and future of skiing. There are 2 things that I love about this boot. First, the boot has an Intuition Gold I.D. liner. This is the lightest, warmest, and most fully customizable liner on the market. It also is the stiffest of all intuition liners. The liner can mold better to the shape of your feet than any other heat moldable liner on the market. The second thing that I love about this boot is the 3 buckle design. Instead of a 2 top buckles and 2 toe buckles, this boot has 1 top buckle, 1 toe buckle, and 1 instep buckle. The instep buckle (Dynalink) helps hold your heel into place so you can't get toe bang. Also, having the tongue be separate from the rest of the boot helps you to not get shin bang. Every problem I used to experience with my old boots disappeared when I got this boot. One word of caution..this boot is for fairly narrow feet only!

They put a piece of fiberglass behind the boot, which makes this ski flex super weird. I skied last years version, but as far as I know, nothing has changed on this ski this year. The fiberglass plate is supposed to make butters easier..but tail butters just feel weird with this ski. It doesn't have a smooth flex for popping. Having said that, the ski is super tough. If you want to buy a ski for jibbing only, this ski is sick..but it isn't the ideal ski for all around park.

Scott P3 = Great Park Ski

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

This ski is awesome. When I first got it, I felt like it was super stiff, and I was skiing pretty crud/spring conditions at snowbird. It handled the entire mountain really well because of how stiff it is. Now that skiing has started again, I am skiing this ski on rails at Park city. The thing I now notice about this ski is that it is super poppy. Even though it is stiff, it is a really playful ski. It is pretty hard to nose butter this ski because of its stiff flex pattern, but it really is a sick, underrated ski.

Oakley goggles are the safest, most optically correct goggles that I have ever used.
