Skijosh.com February Edit
GoPro HD Helmet HERO
September 25, 2010
I am not sure why, but it was hard to find time to edit this season. I have a bit of footage, so over the next few weeks I will be releasing a few edits of me and my friends skiing in Utah. This entire edit was shot with a GoPro HD Hero camera. They are awesome little camera's, I highly suggest you pick one up for yourself.
It has been a while since I have edited, but I threw this together in one afternoon. It turned out fairly well. After watching the footage from February, I think I might be liking the helmet footage more than the chest mounted camera footage. What do you think?
There was supposed to be a ton more footage to come after this, but my RAID 5 drive failed after a BIOS flash and I lost all of my ski footage from March-May including but not limited to: 30 foot cliffs, misty flips, powder nose butters, pillows, and double tomahawks in death chute....yes, double tomahawks in death chute.
Hopefully I can get some cool Mountain Bike and Wakeboarding stuff up here..

GoPro Test Powder
GoPro HD Helmet HERO
February 25, 2010
This footage is just from a day at Snowbird UT testing out my new GoPro HD Camera and Chest Mount. I am trying to decide still how much I like the chest mount as compared to the helmet mount. It does allow you to see your skis and the horizon at the same time easier, but also looks weird whenever your arms raise above the level of the camera (dropping a cliff, etc.).
Footage isn't great, mostly because I was testing the camera as well as frame rates. The HD on this camera looks awesome though for sure!
My home network wasn't working when I threw this video together and there were about 10 random songs on my computer, I decided this one was as good as any. If anyone has some cool music that I could throw in an edit sometime let me know, would love some spanish guitar.
More video to come.
P.S. That day at the Bird was awesome! I was testing out the Lib Tech NAS Pow ReCURVE skis. A review will be posted on skijosh.com soon.

This is an older version of the Speedster..probably 2009 or 2010 model. They work great. This is a size 10. I am a size 10.5-11 street shoe. They hurt, but not too bad, I could probably go smaller.

Deuter Futura 24 SL Backpack- Women's - 1450cu in
July 11, 2010
This is somewhat embarassing. I borrowed this pack, as I did not want to submerge any of my Alpine Touring packs of this size in water. I accidentally grabbed this pack when I meant to grab a men's version. By the time I figured it out, I was too lazy to swap it out.
The torso was a little bit small (I am 5'10"), I had to open it almost all the way up before it fit me properly.
The hip belt was definitley way to small for me, but I was able to open the strap and make it fit..just not completely properly.
I knew that the bag wasn't waterproof, but it fit a drybag inside fairly easily as well as my 3 liter hydration bladder.
This was a 10 hour hike, so I knew it wasn't going to need to carry a ton, it was a perfect size for a 1 day trip or an overnight SL trip.
Kind of embarrassing to have a women's pack out on the trail, but all in all it worked out fairly well!

Get the 185. If you like the 183 Gotama you will really like the length of the 185 JJ. 175 will feel pretty short because of the rocker. The ski doesn't feel as huge as it is..don't get me wrong, it float amazingly welly in pow, but it doesn't feel like you have Hellbents on your feet or anything.

If you feel like your PMgear BRO's or your LibTechs are too short then you could try the 185. If you already like the length of skis you are on, keep in mind that the rocker on this ski will make it feel slightly shorter in some circumstances but the rocker is not a huge impact on this specific ski. So, if you like the length you are currently on, get the 175. This is a matter of total personal preference. Since you are EC, I would suggest 175.

Sorry, I didn't finish my answer. If you really want to use this ski to jib a ton then the 175 would be better because the 185 will have some swing weight to it, otherwise, just get the 185 it will ski better. You are a little short for the 185, but it should not be a big problem.

Line Prophet 100 Alpine Ski
September 26, 2010
This is a great ski for charging hard in powder and backcountry conditions. It also chews up and spits out crud without a problem. The ski has a small turn radius so it turns easily but is stiff and responsive enough that it doesn't get sketchy at speeds.
Having said that though, you mentioned you want to ski park with this ski. This ski has a setback sidecut which means your ski will be mounted further back than it would be with a typical all-mountain able to ski in park ski. The ski is also heavier due to its aluminum laminate.
If you were only going to ski this ski outside of the park, I would get the 186. If you want it to also ski in the park..I would get a different ski.
Here are some other skis I would recommend you check out:
http://www.backcountry.com/k2-kung-fujas-alpine-ski
http://www.backcountry.com/volkl-bridge-alpine-ski
http://www.backcountry.com/line-blend-ski-lin0148
These 3 skis will be more playful, lighter, but still good enough to ski powder with. I would atleast check them out.

Line Sir Francis Bacon Ski
September 26, 2010
The SFB will feel slightly softer and less responsive than the B4 did. Having said that though, the SFB is a much fatter ski and is much easier to ski in fresh snow conditions. I would never suggest going to a 172 unless you are only going to be riding this ski in the park or on groomers, which it does not sound like is the case. The longer length will be easier to ski at higher speeds. The reason you would typically go to a shorter ski in a regular camber/regular shape ski is because you are sick of getting your tips caught up all the time and are having a hard time managing the length of the ski. Rocker in the tip helps to combat those troubles, so there is no real reason to get the ski shorter.

Armada JP vs Julien Alpine Ski
September 23, 2010
The JJ changes in 2008/2009. Prior to the start of the 2008 season the ski changed names from JP vs Julien to JJ (which is an acronym). The ski itself is what actually changed though.
The old ski was noticeably softer flexing than the new model. But the biggest change was in its shape.
The old model was a regular sidecut ski with regular camber..and lots of it. The old models dimensions were: 126-103-116. The new model is regular camber underfoot, but tapered tip and tail to give it the effect of reverse sidecut while in powder. The new model is also rockered in the tip and tail, and is much fatter at: 126/ 136/115/133/121
The difference between the 2006 model and the 2008+ models is HUGE..The skis are not the same really at all.

Go watch the footage. In my opinion the footage from the VholdR is much worse than from this camera due to the lower quality CMOS sensor which causes the footage to look more jumbled and jittery than with the GoPro. This is especially noticeable when the VholdR is used in a situation where everything in the sides of the field of view are moving at high speeds (such as biking on single track).

The Mojo is a great binding. I would aslo suggest the FKS 140 or FKS 180 binding depending on your ability and weight. If you want a super burly binding get the 180, otherwise the 140 will more than suffice and weigh less. The key to a binding like this is that it has almost no height to it, so that you can feel the ski under you better, it has a more natural release so that you don't pre-release and fall just because your ski came off for no reason, and it has a really short mount zone to keep the flex of your ski natural.

Line Prophet 100 Ski
September 13, 2010
These skis ski completely different from each other.
The Prophet 100 is a fairly stiff (8/10 flex) ski with a ton of sidecut. The ski is stiff enough that it really can charge through most snow conditions, but with its small turn radius it can still hold an edge really well on groomers.
From 4Frnt the ski that the Prophet 100 is most comparable to is the 4Frnt VCT. The VCT though does have less turn radius causing it to want to ski straighter most of the time.
The CRJ is a way dope ski for sure. Quite a bit fatter than the prohpet 100, but also quite a bit softer (maybe 5.5-6/10 flex) and a much longer turn radius. The CRJ also uses taper and rocker. This means that the CRJ wll ski powder a lot better than the Propht 100, but it won't turn as easily on groomers nor will it charge choppy snow as well. I have not yet skied the CRJ though, I have just skied many similar skis and have flex it many many times.

Yes, this would be an awesome AT Ski. The rocker actually helps when blazing trail, the ski isn't too heavy, and you will appreciate having a rockered/fat ski once you get to the top of your line.
There isnt' a ton of surface area for the skins to come into contact with the snow, but I also ride a full rockered ski for A/T. As long as you really make sure you plant your feet well the skins will stick to the snow fine and you won't have a problem.
