If there's one thing in this world I love more than being outdoors, it's new gear. Tech clothing, backpacks, stoves, water purifiers, kayaks, snowshoes, spoons, if backcountry.com has it, I want it.

Primus EasyLight Lantern
February 21, 2009
I do not own it..but from what I have read here, and elsewhere..it is a mantle-less lantern. I was wrong. I just watched a video showing the replacement of them. I thought they were mantless lanterns, but unfortunately not.######################Actually it does have a mantle, if you check out www.primuscamping.com you can buy them there. Its not a stiff mantle, you pre-burn them just like you would with a Colman.

January 5, 2009
According to Suunto, there are only 4 straps that fit the D4, they come in black/yellow, black/blue, black/pink, and the traditional all black. None of which are avaiable currently on Backcountry.com. A Google search for "Suunto D4 Strap" will bring up the straps I mentioned.

Sigg Lifestyle 0.6L Bottle - Screw Top

Sigg Lifestyle Water Bottle - Screw Top - 1.0L
January 5, 2009
I own a few Sigg water bottles and I personally think there is no reason to buy any other brand, they are perfect. You rarely see a bad review for Sigg, and after only a minute of looking I see multiple people unsatisfied with their Gaiam bottles, mostly dealing with difficulty with cap, and leaking. Gaiam makes so many different products, unlike Sigg, who specializes in this field. Not to mention that Sigg has many different designs to best suit your style and personality. Spends the few extra dollars, and buy quality.

Backcountry.com Klean Kanteen Powder-Coated Bottle - 40oz
January 5, 2009
No. This holds 8 more ounces, so it's bigger.-------The Sigg 1L obviously holds 1L (33.8oz), and the Backcountry Klean Kanteen 40oz bottle(also says its 1.14L, which is actuality 38.5oz). So the Backcountry Klean Kanteen holds between 4.7oz and 6.2oz more than the Sigg 1L, depending on what numbers you look at.

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch
December 22, 2008
Suunto watches are made for outdoors and rugged weather. I would say the plastic band would hold up beautifully in the shower, ocean and while working out. As for the scratch resistant face, I would say no, from what I read it is Mineral crystal glass which isn't the best at resisting scratches. Might I add this is a nice watch, if I had the cash to spare I'd be all over it! May I recommend which I would get. On Suuntos site they say you can make your own "Military' version, I think it would look best of any of the above, here's what they say...."Core Military Edition? Despite what you may have heard, be aware that there is no factory-produced 'Military' version of the Suunto Core. You can, however, create your own 'Military' Core! Here's how: What you'll need: * One Suunto Black-Orange Core wristop * One Flat Black Elastomer Suunto Core Accessory Strap with LugsHow to do it: 1. Remove the orange strap from the Core watch 2. Replace the silver 'pins' in the Flat Black Accessory Strap with the black ones from the orange strap 3. Install the black strap (with black pins) on the Core body 4. Sit back and savor the stealth "This is what it would look like.http://www.suuntowatches.com/assets/product_images/alte

Tubbs Couloir Series Snowshoe - Women's DO NOT USE
December 19, 2008
That's really unfortunate Carol, I can definitely see how that could get annoying day in and day out! I don't know how much help I'm going to be, but I will try! I hope these are the type of bindings you have, because there are many different types made by Tubbs alone. The first thing that should go without saying is just pull the backstrap as tight as you can get it! The only thing I can think of doing, if the snowshoes themselves are failing you, is to fix it yourself, and what I mean is take a shoelace or small piece of rope, and tie a Larks Head knot around the backstrap(http://www.geospectra.net/kite/knots/knot09.jpg) and then take the ends and bring them around to the front of your boot(or even rap them around a few times) and tie them in the front. Might not be pretty, and may be a pain, but it should help keep it up during your hike. I hope you figure something out, best of luck!

DAKINE Pro 2 Backpack - 1600cu in
December 19, 2008
It will hold skis for sure. It claims to hold skis diagonally(in the link below, it shows they are ALMOST vertical). So when it says diagonally it seems to mean a few degrees off axis. As for ski boots too..not inside of the pack, but I don't doubt that you can find a way to rig them to the pack, or strap them together and around your skis, but that would of course put considerably weight on your back.http://lonelyplanet.altrec.com/servlets/iris/38962/jpeg

The North Face Greenwich Hooded Sweatshirt - Men's
December 19, 2008
From what i can tell, not a whole tell of a lot considering its $30 more. Tjere are only two differences U can find from comparing the two is that the Greenwich has a felt The North Face logo, and the Half Dome(which is no longer for sale on backcountry) is screen printed. The other is it says the cuff of the Greenwich is '3x3 rib at cuffs and hem' while the Half Dome is 1x1, whatever that means. I own the Half Dome, and its one of the best hoodys I've ever owned, extremely soft, heavyweight, and warm. I'm not the biggest fan of The North Face, but this hoody gets it right.

Marmot Mountain Down Jacket - Men's
December 9, 2008
Jeff - I'd order the large size mainly for what you're wearing underneath. What you don't need is a constricting outer down jacket..Dustin- Id have to disagree, I am the same size as you JK, and I own last years Marmot Mountain, and I would suggest a Medium, as it is what I own. I live in cold temperatures, easily 10 below throughout the winter, and rarely have to layer, its seriously that warm. But when layering is a factor, this jacket has plenty of room for multiple layers, a medium is not small by any means. Hope this helps.
