Excellent Jacket

Westcomb Specter LT Jacket - Men's

Westcomb Specter LT Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 20, 2009

I used this jacket for hundreds of miles on the Pacific Crest Trail. Hiked 30 miles one day in rain & windy ~ 40 F temps and stayed dry and almost entirely sweat-free. Breathes really, really well. I use this as a "wind shirt" also since it's so light & breathable. My only gripe is that there are no hand pockets. Though that would push up the weight a bit, it would make the jacket more useable in-town for store runs, etc. The chest pockets are just barely big enough to fit an Apple iPhone or iPod Nano 2nd gen. Though it seems this type of eVent fabric isn't quite as durable as bomber Gore-Tex, it's worked well for me. Hard to find this jacket in stores, I found it at Feathered Friends in Seattle. Excellent, trim fit on me - about 6', 155 lbs on a size Medium. Almost a little too tight at the neck, but it's OK. I kind of wish they offered a brighter color though for safety / visibility in the mountains. I have the black version.

DAKINE 60/40 Convertible Rolling Gear Bag - 9300cu in.

DAKINE 60/40 Convertible Rolling Gear Bag - 9300cu in.

Rating for this product: 3 November 7, 2008

This is a good, very large volume bag. Though I think DaKine's design / build quality has decreased in the past ~ few years. I previously owned a smaller DaKine version of a similar bag, which had a zipper all around between the upper and lower segments. This makes for a much more useful and secure closure to the bag. It escapes me why they would omit this simple feature. Overall, the fabric and construction quality has suffered in recent years. I've also compared their current "Poacher" pack with a version I used to own from 2000 and the quality is significantly less. (both of these were stolen from me, hence the newer replacements).
