Smith Phenom Goggle

February 23, 2011

Yule & Bellow answered it perfectly. Make sure after you ski you let the goggles sit in a warm place for a couple hours, then place them back in a dry case or bag and they will be ready to adjust to the conditions again. If you keep them moist or cold from skiing and then go out again the next day they will fog. This Happens to me every time. I always make sure they have time to warm up and dry in a warm room for at least a couple hours.

Smith Phenom Turbo Fan Goggle

February 11, 2011

I will also add, the non-turbo fan series Phenom goggle lens also fit the same as the turbo fan series Phenom. I bought a bunch of the Smith Phenom lens and use them on my Phenom Turbo-fan. The only difference is the lens on the non-turbo fan have an added sliding vent at the top. I like it better then not having the sliding vent anyways... seems like an added bonus to me. I've been using the goggles and lens a lot for over 3 years now.

Check them out here: http://www.backcountry.com/smith-phenom-replacement-goggle-lens
There's a sensor there! Your choice. they fit though, and no performance is lost, performance improved in my opinion.

Smith Phenom Turbo Fan Goggle

February 11, 2011

Smith Knowledge OTG Turbo Fan: Accommodates a wide range of eyeglass sizes, should fit all types of bulky glasses.

Smith Prophecy Turbo Fan: Accommodate most eyeglasses without the added bulk of traditional OTG goggles. More of a tighter, close fit goggle for glasses.

Smith Phenom Turbo Fan: For everyone that DO NOT wear glasses.

I suggest you look around at buying a sensor lens, or wait for BackCountry.com to stock up on more Sensor versions, if your after the sensor, and assuming you don’t wear glasses under the goggles... The Phenom is the style you'd want to go for.

Hope that helps :)

Salomon SPK Pro Model Ski Boot - Men's

January 7, 2011

These boots are a 104mm of a last width (Forefoot) which is a wide boot compared to a lot out there.

If your more worried about comfort for your feet then this boot, the best way is to go to a ski shop boot fitter and get them to punch-out the boot's forefoot sides. It's like a custom boot for you then.

I had this done for my ski boots after unbearable pain because of a wide foot. It can save you lots of money looking for a ski boot that will never be custom like getting some TLC from a ski shop fitter.

Smith Goggle Case

January 3, 2011

Yes they would, the case is plenty big enough width wise, and definitely hight wise as well.
I bought it for my Smith Phenom w/ Turbo Fan, I noticed it easily fits other goggles I have.

This case should fit most goggle's, if not all.
Worth it, if your goggles are expensive.
I hope that helps. :)

Smith Phenom / Phase Replacement Goggle Lens

January 3, 2011

The lens is not true like a mirror you see from Oakley's sensor line. With a bright light aka Camera flash or night light from night skiing you do see a good sensor/ mirror look. In flat light you see the persons eyes, however it's still mirrored but not 100% true. around the 70-80% and 90% on a sunny day.

I have all the lens, none of them are a true 100% mirror which is a down for style.

Hope that helps. Green Mirror Sol-X lens on Smith Phenom turbo fan goggle.

Smith Phenom Lens

Smith Phenom / Phase Replacement Goggle Lens

Smith Phenom / Phase Replacement Goggle Lens

Rating for this product: 4 December 14, 2010

I own the Smith Phenom Turbo Fan Goggle for about 3 years now. I have a variety of different lenses. They all do their job and I'm happy with Smith rather than going with Oakley like most other individuals. The only thing that I can say that separates Smith from Oakley is Oakley tends to lean more on the straight mirrored lens look that people enjoy, where someone can see a 100% reflection. I was disappointed with not being able to get a lens like that from Smith. Smith lenses are not a true mirror like Oakley can provide. Other then this style difference, Smith lens do the job of staying fog free and provide good vision in the conditions of which the lenses are required.

Performance wise, Smith gets an A-plus. I would have liked to see more of a straight 100% mirror lens like Oakley provides since it’s a popular attraction for most resort skiers and boarders.

Smith Phenom Turbo Fan Goggle

December 8, 2010

They can fit over your glasses, but it will be a tight fit. The fan most likely will help your glasses not to fog compared to a non-fan phenom goggle. If your only option is to wear classes then look at the Smith OTG goggles first, or Smith Prophecy. If contacts is an option then use that for skiing. Contacts make a huge difference right there.

Smith Phenom Turbo Fan Goggle

December 8, 2010

They can fit glasses, but it's a really tight fit. The fan does help with the de-fogging of your glasses compaired to the no-fan version. Like said above the Smith OTG Goggles are recommended. If Contacts are an option for you, I suggest looking into them for skiing, it will make a world of difference.

They are.

The only difference with the Phenom Turbo Fan from the Regular Phenom is the frame of the goggle has a custom fan built into it. The lenses are interchangeable. I own RC36, Platinum, and Sensor which can be exchanged on both the Regular and turbo fan Phenoms.

Here is a list of some more lenses that will work: http://www.gogglesgiant.com/smitlencol.html

The Best of the Best!

Smith Intrigue Skullcandy Twin-Tip Audio Helmet - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 7, 2010

This is one helmet as a guy I’m jealous of. Ever since my babygirl bought this I can’t get over how light and a great fit this helmet is. It’s generous to goggle fitting and it’s a sleek design that makes you rather wear a helmet then a toque besides safety reasons. The silk like material for the ears are an added bonus as well. The venting does the job, with the option of sliding venting of the helmet being cold or hot. The most of all mentioned is the fit, which needs recognition. The fit is snug and I’ve never seen a helmet that can look as if it was custom to a women’s head. The time and effort must have been dedicated to this Smith Helmet.

Well made Smith, while you make her happy, you’re making me jealous.

CIRCA JKT MENS!

Special Blend Circa Jacket - Men's

Special Blend Circa Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 7, 2010

I was skeptical at first to purchase this jacket. I decided to and fell in love at first sight. This is a sweet bright-ish jacket. It definitely stands out on the slopes. The shell is warm enough to feel like a 3-layer jacket which I found to be amazing. The jackets are made big to fit big. I bought a Small where I would usually buy a Medium if I didn’t pay attention to the sizing chart. Special Blend did well on this jacket and it should be a must have if you’re looking to get a new jacket this winter!

I bought the:
Stripe Kermit, Small.

Features:
- Critically taped seams
- Adjustable Drop-Hood
- Adjustable Powderskirt with Jacket-to-Pant Interface
- Interior Music Pocket
- Interior Goggle Pocket
- Key Clip
- Pit Venting
- Interior Glove Loops
- Yo-Yo Pass Holder
- Brushed Tricot Chinguard

It seems like it has a million pockets inside and out as well!

Spectral or Spectacular pants!

Bonfire Spectral Snowboard Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 7, 2010

These Spectral pants are Spectacular! I’m a skier and decided to try out these on the slopes, even though they are a Snowboarder pant. The comfort, warmth, and look are gnarly! I had a blast with these pants and the blue colour I used went with almost any jacket colour around. Hats off to Bonfire, you definitely get more then what you paid with these pants.

I own a pair of these:
Blue, Medium, Regular Fit.

Salomon Shogun Boots

Salomon Shogun Ski Boot - Men's

Salomon Shogun Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 7, 2010

I had the opportunity to test out these boots. My main concern is always comfort. I dealt with frustrations every time I put on ski boots because of the pain on the side, underneath, and pretty much all over which would leave my foot with no circulation literally after 10-20 minutes of skiing. I have quite a wide foot and I am surprised that the Shogun is a good match for a wide foot (however it has a 98mm last width, but feels like a 104mm). The heel was a bit tight but customizations such as heat molding the liner did the job. I like how this boot can be modified easily through shop work if needed. All around it is a well designed boot that is comfy. The 2 buckle system is fantastic, for me I find it's a better system for comfort without losing any performance; however I recommend a custom orthotic if your feet do not like the flat basic liner (bottom foot pain) the orthotic will be kind to your feet and also give you better holding around on your feet, can also help improve ski carving. With the comfort of this boot and an orthotic, if needed, you'll be skiing in this all day with a smile on your face.

SKIING SOCKS!!!

SmartWool PhD Ski Light Sock

SmartWool PhD Ski Light Sock

Rating for this product: 5 December 7, 2010

I bought these socks today and are loving the feel and fit. They are a perfect sock for skiing because of the thin layer to make your foot seem sockless in the boot. Good material and are excited to see how they last for the long term. Fair price for a good skiing sock.

I definetly would never ski again with anything that isn't this thin in my ski boots.

Sizing on box:
(US Men)
Medium - 6-8.5
(I usually wear a size 9-10 sock. I found the Medium fits my foot perfect compared to the Large which was a lot bigger sock.)

I bought these and tried them today on the slopes. Now I know that Snowboard socks arn't meant for skiing boots! The fitting is nice and snug, breathe great, and are warm. Marmot Taramac Pants

Marmot Tamarack Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 6, 2010

I really enjoyed being able to test these pants out. They are warm for a shell, very flexible, and the fabric is high quality. The fit is true to the size and a nice slim looking adult skier pant. The only downside is different colours would be nice, but the black I was able to test was sleek enough to make the purchase a must. I decided to not get the pants only because I was looking for something with more colour. The performance and comfort for skiing in these pants will be missed.

Marmot Taramac Jacket

Marmot Tamarack Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 6, 2010

I had the opportunity to test this jacket out. The fit is true to the size listings. I was satisfied with the warm, comfort, and feel of this Marmot jacket. The only down side to the Taramac jacket is the dark coloured arm sides, and the lower waist dark colour side. I personally feel the jack would have been amazing as a solid color only. It was untimely the deal buster for me choosing not to buy one myself. I found for a full colour one you have to step up to a higher model such as the troll Wall jacket from Marmot.
The color is a lot brighter than in the photos, which is nice. If you don’t mind the dark colour spots then this jacket is perfect for Alpine Skiing, or other listed mountain activities. It’s a mature look for an adult skier or mountaineer.

Black Diamond Anarchist Winter Pack - 1953-2563cu in

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2007

Lightweight designed pack to hold just enough gear and enough to make you happy traveling from destinations - The pack holds skis diagonally in two ways, does not offer A-Frame- The pack offers enough room for luggage but I personally do not see it has a ultimate backcountry pack, the waist belt is very simple (no pockets) medium size.
I highly dislike how there is a lack of information about this pack though, on the black diamond website and in manuals that are provided, was not planned very well and seems to not be in any spot lights.
However! The pack hauls and gets you where you need to go!

The z12's this year have a good look to them and Salomon cleaned up the aspects with the side adjustments. I personally recommend the binding if you’re really interested in it, however the only major downfall noticed by users it that the front two rollers in the toe clip where the very end of the boot sits seems to rattle, Salomon assures this is just how it support to be and not a defect, for me it personally doesn't bother me you can't hear the rattle skiing just if you shake the ski you will hear the toe piece move almost like something inside the binding is broken.
