This is some of the climbing gear I have used to get started. The rope and locking 'biner are the closest thing that BC has to my setup. (I picked up my rope from SAC for a steal.)

I have a few of these and they are my favorite bottles for treking and daily use. They're so quick and easy to open and will not cross thread like my Sigg. You just have to be careful not to over tighten them and pop the lid. Even if you do break the lid they are still pretty easy to open with out the plastic cap.

This is a Definite buy.

Awesome shoe

The North Face Padda Amphibious Shoe - Men's

I have used these shoes all over from white water rafting to trekking in the New Mexico high desert to canoeing in Canada (and they run around town well, too). These shoes do it all. They feel like slippers with a tough sole, which is a welcome feeling after a long day in hiking boots.
Give these a try, I was skeptical at first, but they have exceeded my high expectations.

MSR Groundhog Tent Stake Kit

We used both on a recent backpacking trip in New Mexico. The MSR's were much nicer to use than TNF stakes. The string on the MSR's is nice but I did not use it much, just grabbed the top of the stake and pulled it right out.
The North Face stakes tended to want to twist as they encountered rocks in the desert soil, but the MSR's held solid in all soil conditions and weather.
Pick up a set once they are back in stock.
