K2 ObSETHed Ski

December 12, 2011

J Berg - If you're referring to the 2010/2011 ski (i.e. last year's model) which the same chassis as the current 2011/2012, then this will be applicable... After demoing these skis on a few occasions (knee deep to groomers) I found the cherry mounting spot to be +3 to +5.5, which is consistent with Seth's +4 location. (I ended up mounting mine at +5). You'll find much more control being more centered in the rocker (which is aggressive) without sacrificing much in the way of floatation. The forward mount, in my experience, dampened up the ski and provides a great example of why hand-flexing is misleading, as well as quickened up the skis and provided a better landing platform for airs, which are all big positives. This board was made to be forward mounted as even the top sheet spacing in the graphics suggests.

#1 Jacket for Mountaineering, Skiing, Mountain adventure.

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 29, 2007

Most high-end jackets you will find will have the best quality gore-tex, taped seams etc... but what really sets this jacket aside from the rest is it's storm hood. Unlike The North Face jackets, or even the Sidewinder SV, the Alpha SV provides significantly better protection for the face, and the hood fits any helmet (I wear a size 8 baseball hat -- 64cm). I have previously owned jackets (TNF etc) that will collapse in the front of the face at the top of the zipper providing no face protection during wind experienced while skiing...something you will not experience w/ the SV... and it's storm hood stood up to the challenge as violent winds rolled in while skiing La Grave. Hands down the best jacket out there. Incredibly warm, waterproof (water beads off it), comfortable, and overall just a damn good looking jacket. Mountain guides will tell you, it's the #1 jacket out there. Worth the extra price.
