Functional, not quite as "Fashionable"

Sorel 1964 Premium T CVS Boot - Men's

Sorel 1964 Premium T CVS Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 February 9, 2011

Functional. I can drive my manual Xterra in these boots! Pac boots are hard to find that will still let me drive a manual, but these function perfectly.

Fit. I normally wear a size 11.5. I bought the 11. They fit well even with a pair of super-thick Smartwool socks. [For comparison, I wear (in other brands): Sidi 45.5; Vasque 11.5; Sperry 11.5].

Warm. These keep my feet warm, even down to 0 (while wearing lightweight wool socks).

Fashionable...ish. They look good. The problem, in my opinion, is that the felt liner goes all the way to the top of the boot. This means that you can't roll the tops down/let them splay out a bit, without the felt inner boot showing. You could fix this by trimming the felt boot, but that lessens the functionality of these boots. This is the ONLY reason I would give these 4 stars.

Great Technical Base-Layer or Casual T-shirt

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 19, 2011

Worth every penny at full price. On sale or SteepandCheap, buy 3. Merino wool is always expensive. Next to Icebreaker, this is the best I’ve found for the fit and cost.

I use this shirt as a base layer (cycling/skiing) and as a casual t-shirt. It regulates your core temp well. The collar is a little odd (look at the detail shots in lighter colors). Basically each side slopes down towards the center of the neck with a small triangle that bridges between the two sides. Regardless of why it’s cut like this, it seems to help the collar lay very flat against the neck/chest (i.e., good at keeping the wind out while cycling in the drops).

For cycling, I wear it alone with a short sleeve summer weight cycling jersey and lycra arm warmers down to 50-55 F. I wore one out with a pair of thermal bibs, Castelli LS thermal jersey and Castelli Leggerezza jacket at 15F and I was too warm.
Size Info.: Small for my 36” chest fits perfectly (not too tight, not too loose). My metrics are: 155 lbs, 6’1”, 36” chest.
