Hey Harold,

Good question, short answer is you will align to the magnetic pole closest to your hemisphere of origin, thus you will align to the south pole when in SA.

Long answer is:

standard/global compasses are the same except the painting/weight of the needle...

Here's an explanation (for a standard compass):

Basically in the northern hemisphere, the north end of the needle is pulled downwards toward the magnetic north pole and thus the south end of the needle is counter-weighted to balance the needle. So, when you use a northern hemisphere compass in the southern hemisphere, the south end of the magnet is pulled downwards by the magnetic field and is also heavier than the north end - which could result in the needle catching and dragging on the bottom of the compass housing when the compass is held horizontal.

Clear as mud???

Its a Belt for Style

So far, I like the belt. Girl friend picked it up for me, as I honestly would never pay $75 for a belt. Its definitely more for style than actually holding your pants up since the distance between holes is about 1.5" and you will most likely always fall somewhere in the middle of two holes. Glass buckle face is epoxied to the metal parts of the buckle (not riveted as described) , so will see how long that holds up. Depending on what happened the weekend prior I am between a 36-38 waist. I purchased the 38 in red and am currently in the 2nd to last hole (closed completely) and have 3 holes of adjustment (5 holes total on this belt). So a 36 would probably put me on the 2nd to last hole on the other end. Its growing on me and continues to paint me as a BC.com poster child when rockin' it...

As a side note, my ADD was kicking in and I have to say that I have never heard of such a temperature, 1,5000 degrees!? Nor for the life of me can I understand what "at for twelve hours" means??! ("at for twelve hours at over 1,5000 degrees")

Yeah yeah, I know leave it be... but I couldn't at not help myself!

Comfy shirt, drapes well. Soft material, stretches well, dries fast and is easy to maintain (just throw it in the dryer on steam refresh and its good to go). Seams, zippers, etc. are holding up well to washing's and office use. I am 6'1" and 215lbs, XL fits perfect. Only gripe is it is quite long comparatively speaking (goes past my crotch) and no "V" cut on the sides... I still don't wear it tucked in but it seams to be fitted toward that preference. I also have the Stoic Roam shirt; same shirt just has Stoic logo instead of Backcountry.

I like this hat as a quick and easy backup when its gonna be super hot. It crumples down really small (even the brim is "crumplable"). The seams inside the hat are taped to prevent rubbing. It doesn't fit like a baseball hat as the "head pocket" is rather small, think a running style of hat... I have a large head and the L/XL fits snug and stays put.

Super light weight, crumples into a lemon sized ball and springs back to shape easily. I have a large head and the L/XL fits snug and stays put. The brim isn't super wide, so don't expect it to block sun from much past your ears. Material is tough and yet supple, no comfort issues here!

Suunto Core Altimeter Watch

I purchased the all black version about a month ago; it was a replacement for my Tech4o Trail Leader Pro... I picked up the all black for the negative display and wanted to try out a Suunto, this is my first Suunto product. I have owned a lot of ABC watches over the years; Nike, Casio, Tech4o, Ogio, etc. so I have a lot of experience with these.

The Suunto is a good watch, but not for $300.
I will start with the Cons:
- The negative display is difficult to read in off angles/low light.
- The back lighting is just OK, not the best.
- When in compass mode, the backlighting pulses; kind of like a heart beat. Basically it seems the compass is drawing a lot of power and causing the back lighting to dim each time it takes a reading (every second); really annoying...
- The amount of information you can display on the screen is minimal; and to get to the information you want is a pain; meaning you can't scroll back and forth, only forward. SO if you miss the date, you have to press the appropriate button another 5 times or whatever to get back to the date.
- The worst feature is that you can't display the barometer and altitude at the same time; you must go to the menu and select ali or baro individually; and this is what is tracked/displayed. It sucks to have to switch this "tracking mode" to view the altimeter or barometer. There is an auto mode, but its mostly a gimmick. This method is probably used to keep the alit/baro as accurate as possible; but I haven't noticed any huge deltas between this watch and others that display both. Really its important to know the rate of change; not really what the actual barometer value is. Unfortunately this appears to be the case with ALL Suunto watches.

Pros:
- Accuracy is good; not any better than any other ABC I have owned.
- Comfortable to wear
- Durable, but will show all the dings because its all black.

In my opinion this watch is more about the brand name than the functions itself as the all black Tech4o I purchased to replace this watch has much better use of the sensors, better data display options, better display/back lighting, and has an accelerometer built in to measure your walking distance (quite accurate!).

Hey there, this jacket is a hardshell, meaning 3 layer... it just uses Goretex softshell material, which technically isn't softshell... its Goretex where the inside 3rd layer has a kind of soft/fleece face... I think this is a great all around jacket for what you are looking for... only thing you might consider is that this has a powder skirt and you may not want one...

Hey Dan, Yeah probably but hard to say what kind of motors, etc you are dealing with... a motorcycle/snowmobile, wide open, is ~100db, pain in the ears from sound begins at ~125db... real world testing shows this whistle at ~94db... the loudest whistle on the market is a Storm whistle, rated at +130db...

Hey Arash, if the reel is broken, I don't think there is a way to fix that... if the cable is broken, that can be replaced... depending on how its broken, you might try some epoxy to repair it!

Hands down the swallow tail is the ultimate powder board, split or not... yeah they look strange, but you will definitely notice the difference with less fatigue, there's no BS there! The only issue is if you are a duck footed rider with a max stance width you might find the rear foot close to the rear yin-yang...

Hey Jeremiah, I believe the board you have will have a center strip down the middle, like Neil talks about, but its not "foam" its actually sidewall material... it makes the split nice as you don't need to seal it... With this kit the bindings are in a fixed stance... The rotating stance system can be installed DIY, but requires some extra thought/work...

Hey there Tester, your going to have to wash the jacket following the mfg's washing destruction's on the tag... I have scrubbed the face fabric and removed some stains/debris, but in the end you will have to wash it... the DWR can be replenished after the wash by lightly drying in the dryer or by using a DWR replenishment...

Hey Jake, I had this problem when I used 2 ENTIRE cap fulls, not just 2 of the threaded cap part... which is what I recommend... I would try a straight warm wash/rinse, no soaps... the warm water should "melt" the residue...
