I'm an advanced skier with ski experience in the East, the West, and the North West. I've skied over different 30 resorts across the country and have started moving into the backcountry scene.

I love all outdoor sports and enjoy sharing the experience with other people. I rock climb, hike, mountain bike, road bike, run, swim, water ski, wake board, snow ski/board, sky dive, white water raft, and camp. The only thing more fun than a weekend adventure is sharing the experience with a friend or someone new at the sport.

Armada ARG Ski

February 22, 2011

I would pick a pair of skis with a little more sidecut if you're looking to go BC. I have no doubt that the ARGs would do well on a deep powder day in the BC, but not every area/day is going to be that perfect. A little more sidecut/camber would offer more security if you hit some crusty sun baked snow. Check out the Armada JJs. They're sort of like a mix between the ARG and a more all mountain ski. I have a pair of 185 JJs mounted with Marker Barons and they've performed stellar in the BC.

Armada JJ Ski

January 25, 2010

Cmelo15,
I picked up a pair of the JJs for this season here in Salt Lake City. I've used them five times this season in varies conditions. I expected the JJs to perform well in powder, which they did in about 7" of fresh at Vail over the weekend. I was very surprised to feel how well the performed on the groomers and even in some icy spots at Copper Mtn. I liked the feel of the JJs much better than my Salomon 1080 guns. They didn't do as well as my old all mountain Volk's (724 EXPs) but I wasn't expecting them too and still wouldn't considering pulling them out on a strict groomer day. They are also comparatively light for a big ski, making them easy to hike through the gates with. I'm 6' 180lbs and ski the 185s. Like JT said, go with the 185s no questions asked. The JJs ski shorter on groomers because of the rocker tip and tail.
Hope this gives you some insight.

Stylish and Cost Effective

Armada ARV Ski Pole

Armada ARV Ski Pole

Rating for this product: 4 April 25, 2009

The light aluminum and easy swap baskets were a huge selling point for me. With the baskets you don't need to have two sets of poles for slaying the powder or hitting the park. If you ski both a lot like myself, two pairs of cheap poles would cost about the same the ARVs. The jury is still out on the straight grip handle vs. something that is a bit more ergonomic like in a standard pole. I've only used this poles for about the last quarter of the season, so maybe it just takes some getting used to.
The different graphics really set you apart from everyone else in the lift lines, just make sure nobody steals while you're hanging out in the lodge.
