This is a great lightweight shovel for avalanche work/study. It easily packs yet digs a good pit. I like it a lot and am glad I purchased it. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to go into the backcountry completely prepared but not weighed down. The blue color makes it easy to find too!!

I LOVE this jacket!! So much in fact, that I purchased two of them!! One in red and the other in celery!! The red is for on the mountain, the celery is for in town or in the cabin!! It is so comfortable that I truly feel I could sleep in it.

Great fun to use in avalanche study to see the types of snow crystals that are found in the various layers. I had no idea how many types of formations there are and am fascinated by them all. I enjoy looking at them and analyzing them just for the fun of it as well as during class study.

Black Diamond Contour Trekking Poles - 1 Pair

Rating for this product: 5 May 10, 2005

These are really great!! I use them in all seasons, put snow baskets on for winter. They give great support and stability but don't tire your wrists. On steep down climbs, these are great to put forward and carry the weight of me and my pack instead of my knees getting it all. And for climbing uphill, they are great for giving boosts, especially with a heavy pack on. I highly recommend these to everyone.

This is a great fun tool for backcountry. I climb and really need to know the snowpack of the area I am going into. This is a great tool for me to see how much it will take to avalanche an area. That way I can decide if this slope is good or not to traverse. It gives me options to be safe in the backcountry. I purchased my cord a couple of years ago and my mountaineering guide liked it so much, I purchased this one for him as a present.

My guide and I went to Mt. Shasta for an advanced avalanche awareness class in February. I have the snow study kit, which I purchased from you which includes a couple of the snow cards. My guide had this one, but I didn't. I liked it and so when I came home, I searched for it from your company. I love all of this backcountry gear. It is great fun to study the outdoors through fun gear. Not only am I learning about the earth and all of her magic and wildness, I can also be safe in doing so. That way, I can "live to climb another day" as my hero Ed Viesters says.

Traverse EXT Shovel

Backcountry Access Traverse EXT Shovel

Rating for this product: 5 April 28, 2005

This little lightweight shovel is great! I used it in an advanced avalanche awareness class in February. It packed well in my daypack, assembled easily, dug the snow pit with vigor. The curved angle of the shovel blade makes shovel tests a little difficult. But if the slab is going to avalanche, it will regardless of your shovel angle. I really like the lightness of it for the backcountry. I will use it often!!

This is a fabulous sweater/jacket. I wore it driving up to Mt. Shasta in the bad weather in February. It was perfect for the cold winds. I wore it in town running around and going to my mountaineering class. I love it so much, the next time I camp, I'll wear it all the time. I'd even sleep in it as it is so comfortable! I got the Margarita color!! Great fun color!! I love Marmot gear and this lived up to its name.

Rating for this product: 5 August 9, 2004

These pants are the BEST!!! I love them! They are great for 14,000 footers as a base layer in winter. Plus, I've slept in these and they are great for easy turning around in your sleeping bag. You don't get caught and struggle. One time, the temp. fell to 16 degrees and very very cold. I was car camping and put on everything I had to keep warm. The DriClime on top of mid weight long johns did the trick. I was beginning to think I was in trouble, as I was shivering uncontrollably!! The DriClime's probably kept me from hypothermia!!

These are GREAT pants! I wear them to sleep in during snowy winter months on Mt. Shasta in Northern California. I also wear them to sleep in on Mt. Diablo in Northern California--there is no snow but it is very cold! They are easy to wear in the bag as you can roll around and not get stuck against the sides of the sleeping bag. I wear them also under my Gore-Tex bibs climbing Mt. Shasta. The wicking is great and I stay dry even when perspiring. I highly recommend these to anyone who wants to be snuggly warm and comfortable.

These backpacking socks are GREAT!!! Soft and cushiony and warm. They are wonderful inside my boots. No binding, no slipping, no blisters (of course I wore a liner). I even gave the person who gave them to me 2 pr for her birthday!!! She loves them too!!!

Rating for this product: 5 November 6, 2002

Fabulous! I love this tent! I've taken it to Mt. Shasta, Helen Lake, and Mt. Diablo many times--it is a great tent. A bit heavy for just one person to carry, but the protection and safety I feel makes it worth it. It is big enough to put my gear inside during bad weather. I've been in rain downpours and good winds. I've camped in snow though have not been in a real storm yet.
