Armada JJ Ski

These ski shorter than they measure due to the rocker. Personally, I think you could go to the JJ/AK at 195 Cm. At 165 Lbs, the 185 is perfect for me on tele gear. On Alpine gear, you'd generate more power than I can muster up, you're 4" taller and 25 pounds heavier to boot!

I'm 165 pounds, 5'9" tall and ski the 185 on tele gear. They feel very agile at that length. You could go longer on alpine. 175 would be too short for me. These skis ski short! They are rockered front and back. You could get away with 185's, especially on tele gear, but you may be a candidate for the JJAK. If you live out west, that's what I would get. at your ht/wt.

Mounting position

Armada JJ Ski

Armada JJ Ski

Rating for this product: 5 September 1, 2011

BTW, I just got my 2012 JJ's. The recommended mounting position (-5 cm) is, on these skis, 1 cm forward of the recommended mounting position (-5 cm) on the 2011 JJ's that I have. The new position seems more accurate, but I'd have the shop measure any ski with a marked position before having them mounted. If you are a strong skier over 140 pounds, the 175 would be too short...these ski short due to the rocker, and are stupidly easy to turn.

If you are under 140 Lbs, the 175 would be great. Especially if you are on alpine gear, the 165 will be way too short at 5'9" tall unless you weigh about 90 Lbs! The 175 probably only has 150 CMs or so on the snow on a groomer. They are so easy to ski and ski short that going too short would be very easy. I'm sending my 185s to my son in Alaska, and will get a new pair. He weighs about 145 Lbs, at 5'8" tall. We have them mounted with telemark bindings (Axls, see review above). BTW, buy them for the crud, but you wont ski anything else. I have 60 days in this year, 3 on other skis...and all three days I wished I'd had my JJs, and those were dedicated bump days, here in Utah.

Highest possible recommendation

Armada JJ Ski

Rating for this product: 5 April 16, 2011

This ski is the biggest increase in fun and performance of any ski I have skied in 45 years of skiing. I'm using them for Telemark skiing, mounted with Axls, on position 2, and using the Scarpa T-2 Eco...not a hard driving boot...and they are waaay easy to ski on these boots. I'm 5'9" tall, 160 Lbs. Most reviewers have a weight of about 135-140 for the cut off from 175 to 185. They ski short.

I have 185 cm JJs mounted with Axls. Mine are mounted with Scarpa T-2s which have a midsole mark on them mounted over the mounting line on the JJs. I loove the combo. My friend had his mounted about 3 CMs back from that point. I don't like that quite as well, but they still ski great.

What bindings do you use now? I like the 22 Designs Axl's and the RT Bulldogs (my favorite, very adjustable and step in/out) as they both can be adjusted to a very active setting and they both have very good tour modes (the Axl's tour mode is a bit easier to use, I think).

Great...but,

Deuter Race EXP Air Hydration Backpack - 730-900cu in

Deuter Race EXP Air Hydration Backpack - 730-900cu in

Rating for this product: 5 July 26, 2010

I really like Deuter products. This included. Plenty of room without being heavy, well made, well thought out. The reservoir is also nice. The mesh back is comfortable and lets in air. I use it mainly for mountain biking, and occasionally for day hikes. For hard mountain biking in Utah, where hydration is king, the bite valve on this...well, bites. The fluid flow rate seems significantly lower than a Camelback bite valve and results in getting less H2O when you are trying to get fluid while almost anaerobic! I swapped in the Camelback bite valve and now am very happy with the product. If you only use it for hiking, the Deuter bite valve works fine. But if you are dying in the desert, swap it out!

Considering getting these as a present. 19 yr old guy, 6'1" tall about 160#s, good tely skier who would use these extensively in the park. He'll use Hammerheads on them. We live up in Park City.

Is 179 a good length?

Great skis

K2 Work Stinx Telemark Ski

K2 Work Stinx Telemark Ski

Rating for this product: 5 October 20, 2008

I used these last season at The Canyons up in Park City. They were fantastic for powder days and also
great for backcountry. I prefer them backcountry over my World Pistes even though they are heavier.
They are noticably slower edge to edge compared to the World Piste as you'd expect. On the days when
there was no powder, I'd take my World Pistes into the bumps...this is the only place where the Work
Stinx didn't shine. I also mounted them aft with a pretty active binding and that helped.
