  • Stomping Grounds:

Random LGBT Improv comedy troupes in and around Utah
  • Bio:

I'm an open-minded person who likes to surround myself with other positive, open-minded individuals. I feel that's important.

I moved here from the surprisingly oppressive social scene of Chicago and I think Utah is the right place for me and my various "special" interests.

I haven't really found my niche though, hobby-wise. I've tried biking, but I'm not terribly coordinated. I've tried skiing, but my substantial physical bulk (mostly bone) makes it exhausting. I've even tried to dial back a bit and do some ski photography (where you ski easy stuff while the athletes ski the hard stuff) but my syphilitic eyes are legally blind at this point, which makes it difficult.

But I'm all about meeting challenges (and like minded enthusiasts, if you know what I mean) head on! If you'd like to get outdoors with an open-minded buddy, come find me on the Tetongravity Research forums. Just ask for me by name, and I'll be there.

    Also, I Heart Phunk.

Petzl Grigri Belay Device

January 30, 2009

What sort of weight limit are we talking about with this little guy? I have two concerns, specifically: 1) I'm a very big guy, so if my daughter is using this to belay me, will the rope slip through if I take a toprope lead fall?2) Like I said, I'm a big dude. And I mean "special dialing wand" big. The grigri looks pretty small. Will I be able to use it properly (and safely) with these thick and meaty paws of mine. I swear sometimes I feel like a blind-folded bear (wink) trying to open a jar of honey with his feet tied together, if you know what I mean. Thanks and stay safe out there!

So close to perfect...

CW-X Stabilyx 3/4 Length Tight - Men's

CW-X Stabilyx 3/4 Length Tight - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 December 29, 2008

Great base layer for skiing. 3/4 keeps everything tidy above the boot. If they offered a 3/4 bib they'd be perfect, as they are now they just don't stay put very well.

Great fit, horrible durability...

Smith 2007 Variant Brim Snow Helmet

Smith 2007 Variant Brim Snow Helmet

Rating for this product: 3 February 27, 2008

Pro's: Great fitting helmet with the best ventilation I've found. Very comfortable and warm and offers great coverage. Con's: Plastic bits are just too delicate. The first day I wore this helmet the goggle retainer snap ripped free from the strap. I returned the helmet and had a few months of trouble free use from the replacement. That ended when the adjustment sliders in the rear of the helmet stripped out. Nothing broke per say, but the sliders would no longer click and lock into place leaving the helmet useless as it was no longer a snug fit. Smith has a great thing with this line if they can sort out the durability of the plastic. I'll keep replacing them under warranty until they stop giving me new ones.
