Great pack

The North Face Thresher Hydration Pack

The North Face Thresher Hydration Pack

Rating for this product: 4 October 4, 2007

I got this pack as it's one of lightest available for 70oz, lighter than similar Camelbaks etc. I had to alter for my short small torso. There are few hydration packs at this capacity for small person. I folded straps in for 3.5inches just above top orange elastic strap and sewed together. Found it's best to leave fold there. If cut, seams cut into my shoulders. Once altered, fits very well. Water doesn't slosh like some packs. Waist strap is a must if 2-5hr run. Very breathable and cushioned against back. I use in 50-70m section of races. Much room to fit extra gear in hydration system section, even when bladder mostly full. I also use a Salomon 2 bottle pack, Ultimate direction diagonal 1 bottle and an older North Face reservoir when races require 20-30L. Very difficult to find packs/bottles which work (tested many). These packs work perfectly for me.

BEST sock

X-Socks Speed One Running Sock - Women's

X-Socks Speed One Running Sock - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 4, 2007

I succumbed to the marketing and bought this sock. Fantastic! The support is less than the asics ankle running sock but seems to be better. I used in 120mile running race. No blisters. Definitely noticed that temperature was well regulated. It was fine in snow but didnt sweat either. I ruined one pair by washing in normal detergent-the silver threads pulled apart on bottom. Gentle wash! I got the other xso socks and this is definitely best for me. This one is supposed to be for shorter distance but I would wear it at any distance. I have small foot, narrow ankle with wide forefoot when running, like most females. Perfect fit.

Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tech T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tech T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 4, 2007

I just wore this in 120mile race and wish I got more. There was only white in stock. It's not see-through and worked well. The shirt is very thin but still soft. Very breathable. No sun burn. I am 5"4-needed Medium. The small fit but became too small with my pack cinched around it etc. I've also used the ems t-shirts. They are thicker and not as soft. I would use this one, much better.

X-Socks Air Travel Smart Compression Sock

X-Socks Air Travel Smart Compression Sock

Rating for this product: 5 October 2, 2007

They have less compression than socks you may find in medical store. So much better! Enough compression to make your legs feel good after flight or sitting at work, but dont cut off blood supply. Also feel softer and more comfortable. I use them before flying to any race or at work before longer training.

X-Socks Energizer Running Sock

X-Socks Energizer Running Sock

Rating for this product: 4 October 2, 2007

All the europeans were wearing a similar sock at a recent 150mile race and say they wear them in MDS desert race as well. Really comfortable sock. They got too hot in 2hr training in trails during summer on east coast. I wore them in rockies on cold day. They stay up and you dont notice them. I love the x sock design around the foot -Just like the speed one, they have great support and still feel light around the foot.

Montrail Highlander Trail Running Shoes - Women's

Montrail Highlander Trail Running Shoes - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 2, 2007

These shoes felt great at first. They are light, breathable in heat but still grip. I had tried montrail hardrock-great for stopping foot bruising but i had no foot flexion or feeling. HIghlander have so much ankle support.I think not enough cushioning for roads. They are long and narrow. I couldnt fit my orthotics in them so got injuries in feet when wore them in a race. But it you have good feet, not flat foot like me, they were much sturdier and tougher than I expected.

Comfortable functional jacket

Marmot Original Jacket - Women's DO NOT USE

Marmot Original Jacket - Women's DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 October 2, 2007

One of lightest jackets for much warmth. I use on long races. Fits into hand-sized ball. Fleece lining is soft and comfortable. I used from rainstorm and snow storm. Totally rainproof. Also good movement around shoulders for running long distance. Size S is not too long on my short torso, so good fit for running. I also use The North Face Diad for lighter conditions.

the best smartwool

SmartWool Running Ultra Light Mini Crew

SmartWool Running Ultra Light Mini Crew

Rating for this product: 5 October 1, 2007

These are so much better than the other smartwool socks. I used to have the thicker ones as everyone said I needed them for 150mile races and desert ultras. This one is thin but sturdy. It doesnt smell as much when it's wet in your pack. It lets my foot move a lot more. Perfect

Best single bottle pack

Ultimate Direction Access Hydration Pouch

Ultimate Direction Access Hydration Pouch

Rating for this product: 5 October 12, 2006

I got the UD Volt Hydration Pouch, which is the best bottle or pack I have. It is the same design as the Access, but has a battery operated light on back. It's the first pack which fits my short, small torso without alterations. The bottle doesnt pop out like the horizontal bottle packs, even if you keep it loose around waist. I use it on the 15-20m sections of my races as it's faster to fill than a fuel belt and feels more compact. I usually add a clip on 7oz gel flask to the front. This is the only single bottle pack I have not had any problems with.

Good running jacket

The North Face DIAD Jacket - Women's

The North Face DIAD Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 4 October 12, 2006

Lighter than most jackets. Rainproof and windproof, so I don't freeze when temp suddenly drops. Wish there were pockets, but I think the lack of seams makes it better in more temps and better fit than most jackets. The arm pits don't rub like some jackets. I'm 5'4",short torso-Size S is not too long, doesn't catch when run. Really good fit for running, including full movement of shoulder area. I also use Marmot Driclime jacket for colder conditions. Similar good fit.

Great long sleeve..

Isis Long Sleeve Scoop Neck - Women's

Isis Long Sleeve Scoop Neck - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 October 12, 2006

I bought this as an underlayer, wanting something silky to make feel good while racing! But I've found it's great top layer while running. Loose enough to be comfortable but still fitted. The thin material kept my body warm enough in 48F when normally i'm in thick long sleeve. Doesn't get smelly! I've got a few now, for normal wear and race wear. Feels great.
