Tied out guy points to a tree which created more head room inside. If there are no trees to attach the guy point to, you can find a stick shaped like a "Y", and wedge it under the staked out guy cord.

As you can see, the fabric is very stretchy. I used 2 32oz bottles for example.
Do to the new linelock compression straps that go across this pocket, I am no longer able to strap my z-rest here vertically. On the Nimbus Ozone and the Vapor Flash, this was the perfect place for attaching it. The linelocks apparently cannot be quickly removed and re-attached easily.

26" Life-Link shovel stuffed in outer stretch pocket.
11oz fuel bottle in upper side stretch pocket. These pockets would be great for stuffing rain gear, cliff bars, camera. Also a great place to store misc. items if you decide to leave the top floating compartment behind.
Lower stretch pocket fits 32oz/1L water bottles with ease.

From the pictures online, I thought this pack had sections of black based on the pictures. Here's the Trace I just received in the mail with a black jacket strapped to it so you can see the difference. It's actually a dark grayish/blue color. Looks a little different under different lights, really plays tricks on the eyes... either way, it's AWESOME

I bought this tent for 2 reasons:
#1 - I wanted a lighter tent for 3 season solo outings. At 3lbs 14oz this was a great improvement that still provided me with optimal room and storage space. I found this to be one of the best tent designs as far as utilizing internal space availability. Specifically, the pole layout proved very affective at opening up head room.
I found this tent to be plenty sturdy. I was in two downpours and one windstorm. I stayed completely dry, and since then have re-coated the bottom seams to prevent any possible leaks.
#2 - Great deal - In making a decision between the Sierra Designs Lightning and this tent, I found a sale on craigslist for well under the price. Couldn't pass it up!
Overall, for the purpose and price of this tent, the Hubba Hubba is outstanding. If you keep in mind you aren't buying a tent to outlive gale force winds and a monsoon, you'll have a great experience staying in this valued shelter 2-3 seasons a year.

As much as I desire to be an outstanding backpacking chef, I found myself doing nothing more than boiling water for a freeze dried meal or for brewing some coffee.
The Jetboil is perfect for my backpacking needs. It is more compact than my MSR Whisperlite and pots combined, and it is quick and easy setup and store.
It simply rocks.

Yes, you could use this in winter. I wouldn't recommend it for high altitude outings, where you would be expecting heavy winds or heavy snow, but this will definitely work fine for light snow fall, low altitude winter outing. I've used my 2 person 3 season MSR hubba hubba in the winter before and it worked just fine. With the mesh walls though, it is going to be a lot colder than the 4 season tents you can find.

Yes, this will work for an overnighter, if you have very lightweight and compact gear, only bring the minimum, or share the load with a friend. I use a 1343cu in pack for my overnighters, which barely holds everything, so adding another 500cu in will be enough.

Unfortunately, with this bag, no. With the North face bags, it has to be a right hand zip and a left hand zip, same size, in order for them to zip together. This only comes in the RH zip so it will not work. You can zip the RH and LF of The North Face Dolomite 2S Sleeping Bag, 40 Degree.

The Zeus is 12oz, from what I can find. You will definitely stay warm at those temperatures in any of these jackets (made need to add a layer or 2 if closer to 0F). I would look at what is more important to you: lightweight or more durable. I personally always go for lighter jacket. I am never walking through thick brush while wearing my down jacket. If I am, I'm going to have on a solid out layer so i don't snag it on anything.

Yeah you can wear the boxer briefs with shorts,, they are not too long. As far as long distant hiking, it tends to be a personal preference for the boxer briefs vs boxer shorts. I own 2 pairs of the boxer shorts and they are extremely comfortable. I just recommend what you are use to wearing.

There should be a compartment inside the pack, made specifically for putting a hydration bladder (sold separately). It would be up against the frame, or closest to your back when wearing the pack. The hydration bladders come with a hose that runs through a small hole out the top of the pack, and then usually clips to a shoulder strap.

I have the talon 22 m/l (1343 cu in), and i would go with the size small (1200-2400). On occasion i use the talon 22 for a lightweight overnighter, and when i do i generally have a few things strapped to the outside. The small would be perfect for that situation.. or you can cinch it down for smaller loads. The XS has a max of 1200, so that would be too small

I just pulled my arroyo out,, and if you have both zippers all the way at the bottom, and pull the bottom zipper section away from the zipper, it will come out, allowing you to zip into the other sleeping bag.

You'll want to go with the medium, otherwise it will be too short in length. They shrink a little in the wash, just fyi. Make sure you never put it in the dryer, and it is best to lay it flat on a towel when you dry it. Hang drying it will make it stretch out more. AWESOME shirts by the way. I highly recommend them.

I'd try exchanging it for a size smaller if they have smaller in stock. Otherwise, if you plan on hanging on to it, you could always run it through the washer. I run all my cotton caps through the washer every now and then. Especially after a long sweaty hike. It should shrink it a little bit. I recommend the gentle cycle to play it safe.

The trail weight (2lb 15oz) of the Meta 2P is the weight of just the tent body. The packaged weight (3lb 9oz) is going to include the stakes and waterproof stuff sack that is included. The Meta 1P has a trail weight of 1lb 15oz, and a packaged weight of 2lb 8oz.
I own the Meta 2P and love it. It packs small and is very light weight even for a solo hiker. I'm 5'11" and have plenty of head/feet room, so if you are shorter you will love the amount of space. If weight is more important than to you than space, go with the Meta 1P. I actually opted for the GoLite Shangri-La 1 fly and nest, over the Meta 1P, because I like the versatility of it.

Well Tracy, I have the male version of the Trace, and judging by the size you could fit 4 12 packs inside. That's going to be heavy and not as stable as a normal backpacking load,, but if you have 5-6 beers before hand you probably won't know the difference. Enjoy

The separate floor (footprint) is placed under the tent to provide added protection from rocks and sticks from causing wear and tear to the tent floor. It extends the longevity of the floor which generally receives the most use.
As far the the strings you mentioned, I believe you are referring to the guylines. The guylines are staked into the ground to add weather protection (keep your tent from blowing away)

1. If you haven't already, make sure you read all the reviews below. I saw a few great comments on the atmos vs aether subject that should help out a lot in your decision.
2. Check out www.trailspace.com for a few more reviews:

I'm sure you read my review already, but the most moisture I've seen using this tent was condensation on the ceiling above my head and on my sleeping bag around my my mouth. Given the conditions, this would have occurred in any tent without a doubt. It had rained, there was no breeze all night, it dropped to 30°, and 100% humidity all night. I had no moisture on the floor of the tent, and I used a small pack towel to wipe up the ceiling condensation. I wasn't bothered at all.
The design of this tent provides excellent ventilation for a single wall tent. With the vents at the poles, the side vents, the mesh doors, you can greatly limit the condensation. It's an awesome tent!

The large is actually 77x25", not 77x20". The width of this tent is 49", 2 size large pads in here would be 50" width, so 2 large pads might be a little wide. I would go with 2 size regular pads.

Yeah,, scratch that Eureka. This is a tough one,, I'm trying to picture what I would want to take in the same situation. Two other possibilities would be the GoLite Shangri-La 2 or 3, each with their nest. I suppose you are trying to keep it under 6lbs?
Big Agnes String Ridge 2
Trail weight: 5lbs
4-season
http://www.bigagnes.com/Products/Detail/Tent/StringRidge2
In my opinion, here is a great 4-season tent for under 6lbs. No mesh on the tent body, which will hold in more warmth in winter. It's built solid so if you see any high winds or winter storms you be protected. In hot/humid summer days, you can use the mesh part of the doors, or keep them slightly open to minimize condensation.

Compare the dimensions with your laptop. Also, from MHW's website, "Bomber materials and thoughtful features make this the perfect computer pack for adventurers." That leads me to believe this would be a great pack for what you are looking for. It may not have a specific padded laptop compartment, but you can always find a padded sleeve to put your laptop in before loading it up in your pack.

If you are going to be the only one carrying the tent and all your gear, I'd say step up to a 3400+ cu in backpack.

You'll definitely want to go with the large. I'm 5'11", and the medium was right on the border of being too short. Plus the merino wool is suppose to shrink a little after the first wash. I ended up exchanging for a large which has the right length for someone being 6' to 6'2 . I'm 155lbs so it doesn't fit me as slim, but would be a perfect match for your dimensions.

The sweet feature of this tent is you can use as a lightweight shelter without the floor, as a party tent or cook tent and not ruin the floor for when you really need need it.

Regular 72"x20" is for someone 6ft or shorter
Large 77"x25" is for someone taller than 6ft OR someone like myself (5' 11") who prefers the 25" width over the 20" because I move around a lot when i sleep. I prefer to carry the extra 9oz in weight for this added comfort.

I'm going to leave your other questions unanswered in hope that we get a second opinion.
As far as 50% pave and 50% trail. This is my personal opinion: I would go with a trail shoe over a runner like this one. The reason being that I believe a trail shoe is more durable and can handle both types of use, while most of these running shoes were only made for flat surfaces and should stay on flat surfaces. I'm no shoe expert, but I have 2 pairs of trail running shoes.. the solomon i mentioned in another post and the north face prophecy II. I do mostly trail running but in the winter time I'm on the treadmill with these same shoes and they have worked great. Hopefully this weekend someone else will give some advice on your other questions though. No need to rush on your decision.

They will work, but they aren't made for dirt hiking trails. If you are buying a pair of shoes specifically for dirt trail running,, there are more suitable shoes. If you plan on doing 80% pavement but wouldn't mind stepping off the trail on a couple occasions, you'll be okay with these.

To the right under "Select Options" it says "Size?" Click on that for your inseam.. however on Columbia's site is says the inseam is 31". You can blame columbia for lack of info on pockets, as they don't specify on their site either which is where there is no excuse for lack of information. Judging by front/rear pictures though I'd say no pockets.

and email response:
"No extra parts nesessary, there is enough extra wire to use on the stock Jetboil, you just need to take the base apart, and carefully cut back the insulation leaving a slightly longer than normal ammount of exposed wire, push the wire up through the holder and clip to the same length as before, then Bend it like it was originally and test. you can always alter the location for the best spark, I remember doing a little fiddling till it sparked first time every try.
This should work up to 4 more times (seems to be enough wire to do so) since the wire is in an S bend allready.
The cause I found was in using the jetboil for long durations (forgetting to turn off the jetboil after water was boiled, or boiling multiple items)
Once you do this repair you will quickly realize just how handy the tip is.
My jetboil is still firing up like it was new after a solid year of use! Hopefully yours will do the same. My post should have had some detailed photos to illustrate the process (it may have gotten deleted or changed by the administrator) but this DIY repair isn't hard to do.
Best of Luck!"

Hi Elliot. After I bought my first down sleeping bag, I strongly preferred them over synthetic. I believe they are way more comfortable and compact. In my opinion this is worth every penny. With down there is the issue of getting it wet. This is why I use the Sea-to-Summit eVent stuff sac which is waterproof. I also take an appropriate shelter based of weather conditions (you won't see me roughing it like some of these guys do, sleeping under a tarp in a downpour). The only reason I would choose another synthetic bag would be if I moved backed to the Pacific coast where it rains almost all the time. Another thing to consider is how often you will use this bag. If you plan on backpacking/hiking/mountaineering quite often, definitely go with the down bag. If you only expect a few outings, save yourself some money and go with the synthetic.

1800cu in would be the minimum volume I would use for that gear plus 3 liters of water. The Osprey Manta 30 Hydration Pack is more realistic in my opinion and will give you that little bit of extra room you'll need to pull this off.
** Sorry I didn't see the Manta 30 was out of stock.
For this kind of outing, I would go with the Black Diamond Axiom 40 Backpack. It's lightweight (2.6lbs) and has a generous amount of volume for an overnighter. AND it's in stock.

I don't see 161 in the list of what's in stock for board length, so I'm assuming you meant 157 or 169.
The 157cm will be more fitting for freestyle riding.
I just talked to my buddy in Colorado. He's been snowboarding a lot longer than me, as well as more frequently. He is the same size as you and uses a 155cm. I use a 159 and I'm 5'11" 155lbs. He recommended the 157cm.

3000-3200cu in is the perfect size for a lightweight 2-3 day summer backpacking trip. Check out the Arc'teryx Axios 50 backpack as well. It is more geared for trekking, while the Miura is geared more for rock climbing. Both are excellent packs, but I believe what you are looking for is the Axios. It is highly breathable and over a pound lighter than the Miura.

This pack will work great for your backpacking trip. Although it is geared more for climbing and mountaineering, it still has the high quality and comfortable suspension, which is key when you are trying to enjoy the scenery and not worry about sore shoulders and back.
If I could make a recommendation though, check out the Arc'teryx Axios 50 Backpack. It has a little more volume, is $75 cheaper, and is a bit more suitable for your trip.

Hey Erik, the stuff size is 9.5"x18".. which is huge but what you'd expect for a $105 synthetic bag. I think it would be worth it to save another $100-150 before next fall/winter which will give you a much better selection of 0 degree bags.
If you need a bag sooner than that and can come up with an extra $80, you can get the Mountain Hardwear Ultralamina which is 14oz lighter and the stuff size is 8.5"x12".. considerably smaller

"All of our current sleeping bags with the exception of our Mountain Goat children's bags and the Superlight (Phantom and UltraLamina) line of sleeping bags have the ability to be zipped to another of the opposing zipper orientation. We only test this feature with our own sleeping bags. However, other manufacturers' sleeping bags manufactured after 1996 that feature a full-length, YKK #8 zipper should also work."

Meg, check out this link to trailspace.com. It has ten more reviews on this tent that will help you get a better opinion on the tent and condensation.
http://www.trailspace.com/gear/black-diamond/skylight/
As with all single wall tents, you will experience condensation. Whether it's a big problem or not will vary with each person. I own a 2 person single wall and whenever it rains or is cold and humid, I will have some condensation on the inside. When this happens, I use the MSR Packtowel to wipe down the condensation, or I just wait until it evaporates. If I'm expecting to spend several nights in the backcountry and expect more than 1-2 night of rain, I pack my double-wall tent.
If you are expecting to use your tent where it will be raining frequently and/or humid, you will be a lot more comfortable getting a double-wall tent.

What you are going to find with almost every sleeping bag is that the temperature rating is where you will start feeling cold and uncomfortable or are already wishing you had a warmer bag. This varies with each person and brand of bag. Some people sleep warm, some people sleep cold. I personally always wear long underwear and with all types of sleeping bags, I begin to feel uncomfortable or cold from the temperature rating up to 10 degrees over the rating. Generally this temperature range would be for someone expecting 50+ degree temperatures. I wouldn't use this in temperatures lower than 50 degrees even with long underwear and a bag liner. I recommend a 30 degree bag if you expect Spring and Fall temperature to drop below 50.

Hi Megan,, For your priorities of avoiding condensation and durability, I would lean towards the Copper Spur UL2. Any single wall tent will have condensation after a downpour or in high humidity & cooler temps.
As far as another recommendation, I think the perfect tent for you would be the MSR Hubba Hubba 2 person tent, combined with the Gear Shed vestibule. The gear shed provides tons of extra room for outings when your bring the dog Especially when it's raining and you don't want a wet dog crawling around your sleeping bags and gear. It's going to be a little pricier, but I'm sure you can find a great deal online.

The difference is the purification catridge. The MyBottle Purifier has a stage 3 Virustat/carbon cartridge, while the Microfilter comes with the carbon/glass fiber cartridge. The more expensive one just has an upgraded filter cartridge for remove viruses, while the Microfilter does not. However, they both use the MyBottle ViruPur Replacement Cartridge. Which means you can turn the microfilter into the Purifier by simply replacing the cartridge. I apologize if this is confusing!

Yeah,, I see what your saying. I prefer the set up you are looking for. I currently use a waterproof outer shell and a lightweight down jacket. This was my setup in Laramie, WY (just north of Fort Collins) and I stayed pretty warm. Certain days where the wind chill was 20 below, I would just add a hooded sweatshirt to the mix. I think a good 600 or 800 fill down jacket would be perfect for you. There are a few good ones out there that don't make you look like a marshmallow.
Thought this was a good looking synthetic too, if you can find size/color you like.

I recommend a medium for the regular, a large for the long. This is playing it safe since I'm unsure of the exact sleeping bags you have. Different synthetics will compress to different volumes. I used the 20deg North Face Cat's Meow for comparison.
As for the tent, I wouldn't recommend a compression sack like this. Your tent won't fold in a fashion that will be more compact using this style of sack. If you still have the original sack the tent came with, it is best to just use 2 compression straps in addition.

Archi, these will be excellent boots for Mount Rainier. The key is making sure they fit you right, making sure you get the right size. When it comes to ordering boots online (that I have never tried on), I always check with customer service and see if I can order 2 sizes. This way I make sure I found the best size and then return the other pair. If you check with backcountry customer service, they may provide a note with your order for a free shipping label for return and refund.

Hi Ryan, I've owned these GTX's for 5 years now. I haven't had as much discomfort in this area on the ankle, but I do notice it the next day when I start hiking. It will feel slightly sore, like a small bruise, but for myself it only bothers me for about 5-10 minutes into the hike. I also notice this more when I haven't hiked in over a month. When I'm hiking more frequently, I don't notice this at all, as my skin is toughened up a bit. Also, I never wear a lightweight sock with these, always using a mid-weight backpacking sock. This may be an issue for you if you are using lightweight socks, otherwise it sounds like these may just not be the best fit for you.

The size is perfect in my opinion. I always carried The North Face Hot Shot pack (2015cu), which was the perfect size for day hikes and traveling through airports.
If you are like me though, I don't like having the full waist-belt for my day pack. It's just too bulky, and I never use a belt unless I'm on the trail. I prefer the simple tuck-away waist belt.
But if you look at the 2nd user picture of the 34, it looks like they lay pretty flat if you want to tuck them behind your back when not in use. Just something to keep in mind.

I use ben's 100% deet in the eastern minnesota area just off of the mississippi river. I stick with the 100 over the 30 here because the mosquitoes are thick. Last summer I went on an overnighter south of Lake City. It had rained the 2 previous nights and was 89F and extremely humid that day, no breeze. The mosquitoes and flies were horribly thick.. but the Ben's 100 did the job. It didn't last the full 10 hours like specified as I was sweating it off in about 3-4 hours.

The tarp of course does not include the nest that is shown in this picture, just fyi.

It does have 2 large zippered pockets, one medium pocket, and 2 small side zipper pockets.
Large (inner) Pocket 1: Holds laptop's 15-16" wide and 10" length. Also room in this pocket for large school books, binders, etc. Has a zippered pocket and a sleeve pocket.
Large (middle) Pocket 2: Has a smaller zippered pocket with key clip. Ipod and phone mesh sleeve, 2 pen holders, and room to carry books, binders, etc.
Medium (outer) pocket: Small zippered pocket, two separate sleeves, one can hold a 32oz nalgene bottle or a larger style laptop charger. The other fit my smaller coffee thermos. Enough room in there to stuff a rain jacket, rain pants for day hike.
Small (outer) pocket: has vertical zipper, good place for passport / plane ticket / cliff bar.
Two small side pockets: It's a tight fit, but you can put a 1L bottle in each of these. I also found them fitting for a camera, extra pair of socks, winter cap, etc

-Red light can be either continuous or flashing
-AA battery provides up to 10 hrs. of use with the high-output LED on high, 40 hrs. on low; gives 90 hrs. of use with just red LEDs continuously on and 150 hrs. while flashing
-A single HiFlux.LED light coupled with Total Reflex Optics creates incredible light output with a 65-foot beam and a 40-degree light angle
-Flashing red LEDs can be seen up to 700m away
-Press and hold the on/off button for 2 sec. to turn on the alpine emergency signal; high-output LED will flash 6 times per min. every other min.
-Single high-output LED in the center throws a beam of light up to 20m on high and 15m on low; LED outputs 25 lumens on high
-Two levels of beam intensity
-Switch to the 2 red LEDs and use the strobe mode to increase visibility during nighttime bike rides or jogs; use the continuous on mode to preserve night vision while hiking

This won't keep you dry like a Goretex product, however you also won't see the same freedom of movement in goretex as you would in this jacket. As far as golf is concerned, if it's raining hard enough that you need a waterproof jacket, you will likely be heading back to the club. The water resistance of this jacket will do perfect at shedding off light drizzle or brief periods of light rain. It will also be perfect for blocking the wind, breathability, and won't restrict your golf swing like a hardshell jacket.

The Reactor is simply one of the best stoves out there. If I were planning more week long, high altitude, extreme temp excursions, I would have went with the MSR Reactor. However, when I was in your situation, I went with the Jetboil PCS, because over the past few years 90% of my trips were weekender's, mild climates, and simple dehydrated meals with instant coffee. For this, I believe the Jetboil PCS is the best choice. If this sounds like you, save the $60.

Are you expecting to be using cross country ski's or snowshoes?
It's been my experience with winter excursions that having less on the back, and more in the sled, is the way to go. Pulling the lump sum of your heavy gear in a sled is much easier than carrying it all on your back. My brother and I bought larger plastic sleds from a walmart or similar, added two 8' strands of rope that ran through pvc piping, which then clipped to our backpack. It made the trip through deep snow go a lot smoother. We could then strap our snowboards, etc onto the sled and covered it with a tarp and bungee cords.
Not exactly an answer to your question, just an alternate idea which I highly recommend if you plan on getting into some deeper snow.

I believe the main difference relative here from the Hiker and the Hiker Pro, is that the Pro comes with a separate connector piece that can be used on your Osprey, Nalgene, Jansport, or any other compatible bladder. I own the Pro, and have yet to use the additional adapter. I generally use the larger one pictured which pops right into the top of a 32 oz nalgene bottle.
