  • Bio:

Love being outside enjoying God's creation. I'm from a small town outside of Flint, MI, and spent a lot of time in the woods, rivers, lakes, and fields of Michigan growing up. Now I'm out here in the Springs, getting off base whenever I can to ride, hike, and camp.

Petzl Corax Harness - Men's

Petzl Corax Harness - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 2, 2011

It's not the lightest harness, but it certainly is comfortable. I like the front gear loops and floppy back ones. Sturdy belay loop, fast to put on, take off, and adjust. Speed buckles and elastic loops to hold excess straps are nice touches.

Best reservoir I've tried

CamelBak Antidote Reservoir

CamelBak Antidote Reservoir

Rating for this product: 5 June 8, 2011

After trying a couple different brands, including Platypus, this is the reservoir I'm gonna drink from.

The valve shut-off is much more secure than my Platypus, which dumped 2 liters all over the back of my Jeep because it came unlocked. The cap is easier to work than the zip on the Platypus, and the piece below the cap provides an excellent filling handle. Detachable hose is easy to get on and off, and the bite valve works flawlessly. The drying arms are a nice feature, as is the center baffle, which really does keep the water from sloshing around, even on dynamic, rocky trail runs.

Nice to see innovation that works.

Good belay carabiner

Metolius Element Key Lock Belay Carabiner

Metolius Element Key Lock Belay Carabiner

Rating for this product: 4 June 8, 2011

Like other reviewers have said, the sleeve takes more turns than BD locking biners... but the smooth shape, small size, and light weight mean I'll be keeping this one and using it for belaying.

DAKINE Scout Mitten - Men's

DAKINE Scout Mitten - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 15, 2011

Great mitt, keeps the snow out and heat in. I wore them today with some cold weather cycling gloves I have - it was between 20-30ish, but my hands stayed toasty. They'd probably be warmer with the included mitten liners. They have a strap to tether them to your wrist and the gauntlets are super easy to cinch up around your jacket sleeve. The left mitt also has a little rubber tab to squeegee your goggles. Wear the mitts, wear the liners, wear both, put your own liners in them... you've got a lot of options with these.

Too large

prAna Bronson Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 9, 2011

I can normally wear a 34 waist with or without a belt, depending on brand. But these felt like a 36. Otherwise, looked like good construction. Sent them back for a refund.

Evolv Defy Climbing Shoe- 2009

January 8, 2010

Wondering about the fit... should my toes be scrunched up in the front of my climbing shoes? I got a pair of these in 11.5, my street/athletic shoes are usually 11.5 or 12, but these feel to tight.

It's my first pair, so I'm not sure.

Pearl Izumi Zephyrr Cycling Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 23, 2009

This thing fits great - I even forget I'm wearing it. The pocket in the back is perfect for cell phone, etc., and the one on the left breast holds a Clif bar and a coupla gels. Blocks the wind, keeps your core warm, and unzips on warm climbs. Perfect.

Under Armour Heatgear Loose T-Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

October 22, 2008

Yeah, definitely. Two things to consider, though: it's pricey, and being a rich-looking American can be a turn-off. So wear it under something. Also, it could tear easily if it's your outer layer.
