Insulator Jackets

Backcountry.com Siphon Primaloft Hooded Jacket - Women's

Backcountry.com Siphon Primaloft Hooded Jacket - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2009

The selling point of this jacket: Packability. The siphon is an insulator jacket, and is meant to provide serious warmth in a clinch. Primaloft is made to be super lighweight, and rip-stop nylon is respective to that. This jacket is a spin-off of the Cloudveil Enclosure Hoody, and they are BOTH super great jackets. The Cloudveil has a bit more loft, but both are 100 g fill primaloft with nylon. This is a super all around jacket, and is quite water resistant. It is treatable with a spray on DWR anytime for care and water resistance. This jacket will suit you nicely if you dont like that puffy look. Again, this is a very successful hybrid jacket. Its meant to pack tight in your backpack on a winter trek, and to be a comfortable casual piece, and this is only possible with the primaloft. I wear the insulators ( Enclosure and Siphon) around town, and throw them under a hardshell waterproof/windproof if i want to get in the sub zero mercury. Get this jacket, or if you have muchos dineros, consider the Enclosure by Cloudveil.

Im KING inside my beanie

Backcountry.com Cajap Beanie

Backcountry.com Cajap Beanie

Rating for this product: 5 January 12, 2009

This beanie is hotter than Tayra Banks, and comfortable as Queen Latifah. Alpaca is the softest kind of wool ive ever felt, damn near beating Merino. I use this guy if i need serious warmth, because it is a super warm beanie, to the point where i reserve it for the slopes. Note: if you have short hair, alpaca is an itchy kind of wool. it is soft as the dickens, but you'll notice it on your shaved noggin like i often do. if you have any hair above 1 inch, you will not notice, and will be happy and comparable to a fluffy kitten.

Highest Peak

Cloudveil Enclosure Hooded Jacket - Men's

Cloudveil Enclosure Hooded Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 4, 2009

if you are looking for technical gear to get to the highest places with gear that allows it, the enclosure does. I bought this Insulator to be my close companion on higher altitude touring, when the wind is unbearable and snow stinging, and your wondering what kind of philosophy degree the avalanche forecaster REALLY has. Assuming you have a hard shell, with this guy as an insulator, i cant think of any peak below the karakorams that would be hard to reach with this insulator. low-volume packability is the selling point of the jacket, and it does not lie. It had better be small mercury out there, at some point youre gonna pack it away, and give yourself a good excuse to show off those solid peak bagging muscles to the yuppie-toting spyder-sporting Heli wieners above snowbird and alta. if worse comes to worse, im sure the Enclosure would sport you in a high altitude brawl...

It is water repellent, and the material is extremely soft, to the point you turn off the thermostat and give yourself an excuse to wear it. I have been sweating and whimpering whether or not to get this jacket versus the Backcountry brand Siphon Hoody. They are essentially the same item, with a little bit of difference between the sizing and small features, such as fleece in certain places, and some great stretchy materials under the arms. the Hood is much more refined and fitted in the Enclosure, wheres the siphon definately has a comfy stow hood look. In retrospect, with the money, id make the same decision. However, if you are tight on the pocketbook, the Siphon is an extremely impressive peice of gear for the price. For both jacket, there is a bit of a sizing give. if you are any body type below obese, go with your shirt size, and you will be comfy.

prAna Luna Maternity Capri Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 December 23, 2008

got these for my pregnant sis, whom is bedridden with hormonal issues, and has been for the past 3 months. she never goes anywhere, never does anything, just chills in her Prana pants 24/7 . Pretty sure, from what i hear, these are the best pants ever put on this little part of the universe. put them together with a Disney movie and ice cream, and they might as well be part of the conception process.

Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 December 23, 2008

Super stiff front section, minimal weight and material, good tight fit, stealth rubber. if you need to balance on a tiny nubbin, this is the shoe to do it in. this shoe seems real promising to boulder in, assuming the toe-crunch factor does not make me cry like a little girl.

Arc'teryx Covert Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Covert Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 December 9, 2008

Straight up, this is a warm hoodie. beats the pants off of cotton or polyester. THAT BEING SAID!!!! i would not pay full price for this, and i did not. if you want a warm hoodie for the same price, go with merino wool, or a yummy fleece. when i think that this jacket is a comparable price to the Ibex softshell or the Colombia R2 series, i cry a little on the inside. if you have the kind of money to spend this on a hoody, spend it on a Westcomb arcane softshell, or a better fabric hoody. Polartec is not a new material, and better ones exist. if you can get this hoody for cheap, however, do it. its the best casual hoody ive ever had, but casual hoodies shouldent hit above the 60 dollar range to begin with.

BRAIN TUMORS?

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's

Backcountry.com Stoic eVent Shell - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

don't know what the 3 star rating was all about, this jackets is a technical breathable shell, as advertised. BOTTOM LINE: this puppy is like an inoperable brain tumor. it eats away at your pocketbook, allows you to sweat profusely, and eliminates need to worry for further jackets.
sizing runs a bit small: if you wear a shirt size med. go for a Large. trust me.

Patagonia R2 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Patagonia R2 Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 25, 2008

TARZAN LIKE!!! this thing is fitted nice and slim, with an extra long external fleece which performs like a thug on the inside of a shell. assuming no wind, it is a great outwear peice which looks like a classy version of the MH monkey man jacket. granted, this puppy aint cheep, but if you see it at a patagonia outlet or steep/cheap, snatch it up. you will look smoking hot, your lady will love snuggling to it, and you dog will love leaving his hair all over it.

Arc'teryx Theta SV Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Theta SV Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 21, 2008

If you want something comfy and tender, don't get this jacket. if you want a bomb proof piece of equipment that looks good and performs, this is it. great material, good design, and windproof and waterproof as hell. this thing is also SUPER light for its size, it has no lining other than the slightly softer material on the other side of the shell, and this is part of the reason for the light weight. hood looks smoking good, and has a small brim on the front, making you a pimp, not a baseball fan. two front check pockets on both sides, but none on the front bottom where most jackets hold their pockets. one large interior pocket on lefthand side. the large trim on the body makes little difference to appearance, and is barely noticeable when wearing.
