Great tent/price

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

Rating for this product: 4 July 25, 2010

Dig the tent. Just took it out to Zaleski this past weekend and the mesh walls were a welcome relief during our heat advisory. Stayed nice and cool with the breeze in the evening. The tent is perfect for one person and a significant other or someone you're comfortable being in close quarters with. Slept just fine with my tent buddy. Haven't tested it's weatherproofness yet but the design seems nice and tight. The fly covers the entire tent (obvious in the photos above) and the little clips at the bottom allow you to pull the fly down snug against the tent walls. As I said, didn't use the fly so didn't get to use the vestibule but I did set it up for posterity's sake and it seemed plenty roomy. Enough for my muddy German Shepherd to curl up in. There's also a little clear plastic port hole which, while somewhat gimmicky, was kind of a cool feature. Gear slings along each wall, plenty of gear loops inside and the tent comes with guy lines. My only gripes (and they're minor) come from the fact that when I lay on my back, my toes touch the bottom end (I'm 6'1"). However, when I lay on my side it's fine. Really wasn't something that bothered me, just an observation. It also would have been nice if there were two doors, but there are plenty of two-door tents for around the same price. The fly also needs to be staked down at two points in order to be really snug which I found kind of counterintuitive to a quick set up if it began to pour in the middle of the night and I had to pull out the stakes and then reset them. Probably not that big a deal...But really, all in all, this is a great tent for a great price. Grab a compression sack and really save some space. Poles and stakes are nice and light and the color isn't so stark that you stand out in the woods. I'd recommend this tent to anyone.

Mountain Hardwear Lightpath 2 Tent 2-Person 3-Season

July 25, 2010

Just bought this tent and used it this past weekend. In my opinion, any tent can be a 4 season tent so long as it's waterproof and the seams are sealed. I've been out in a last ditch Target tent in single digits and a blizzard and stayed dry and toasty as did my buddy with a tarp shelter. Just make sure you have a nice warm sleeping bag!

Ouch

Five Ten Dragon Lace-up Climbing Shoe - Men's

Five Ten Dragon Lace-up Climbing Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 12, 2010

I guess I'd give them 3.5 stars. Here's what I was able to gather when I was actually able to wear these things. Stickiest rubber ever. Seriously. I wanna say Five Ten uses a kind of indy car tire rubber or something similar. Even when just lightly brushing the soles together they stick like nobody's business. They are synthetic so the the uppers stretch maybe a little bit. I stuffed three baseballs into each shoe and tied them over night and that definitely helped. Problem is, and it's definitely my fault, my feet are wide and flat and this was the most painful thing I've ever had on my foot, including a second degree burn. My toes went numb after about thirty seconds and I couldn't put any weight on the heels because my toes would dig into the front and I thought I was going to pass out. When I actually had them on the wall, they were great. Edged like crazy, stuck to smears like there was an extra hold, and hooked into features nicely with the downturned toe. I just couldn't have them on for more than 5 minutes. I ended up returning them. Wear a 10.5 in streets and bought the 11 just to be safe. Big mistake. I just don't think these shoes were meant for those of us with wide feet. Too bad. These shoes seemed badass but I couldn't get past the pain. Oh well. Checking out the La Sportiva Mythos, Spires, and the Anasazi Blancos/Verdes. I would love to stick with Five Ten. Great shoes, great rubber. If you've got the right foot for these, you can't do much better.

Perfect UL jacket

Outdoor Research Zealot Jacket - Men's

Outdoor Research Zealot Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 12, 2010

This thing is awesome. Like the previous post, I don't ever have to think twice about bringing this thing with me anywhere I go. It packs nicely into the one pocket located on the chest. No frills but just about as light as you can get. I've taken it to Mexico in the jungle and I've run with it in the snow and rain. The rest of me might be soaked but I stay bone dry from the waist up. There's one elastic drawstring located at the waist and one on the back of the hood to tighten things up. The hood also has a lightweight bill to keep water from dripping into your face (very annoying and renders a jacket pretty much useless if the water just drains in through the hood).

I usually wear a large for most jackets but I went with the XL and wasn't disappointed. It might be a tiny bit baggy but the extra space will come in handy should you ever have to throw the thing on over multiple layers. When I run in the winter with a silk base layer, cotton mid layer, and fleece outer there's plenty of room. I'd recommend this jacket to anyone.

Salomon XT Wings GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

November 30, 2009

These definitely have great arch support. I have flat feet so I was really pleased with the amount of support these shoes provided. Should be perfect for regularly arched feet as well. Not too high, not too low.

Salomon XT Wings GTX Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 19, 2009

I'm sure it's been said before but these shoes are skinny, skinny, SKINNY. I knew this going into buying the shoes but I was hoping with an insert or some time of...stretching them out or something? Anyways, they were AWESOME shoes. Waterproof, well-made, durable, and the oxide and black pretty sweet. Hopefully Salomon will start coming out with wider shoes. Oh well...looking at the Vasque Blurs and banking on the fact that Vasques typically have a wider toe-box.

Backcountry.com Stoic Inbounds Glove - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 30, 2009

Waterproofed these bad boys and took 'em with me this past weekend. Took a hike through thicket and really put them to the test. Everyone else's gloves were catching on thorns and soaking through and mine stayed bone dry and pricker free. Held up to rain, chainsaw work, and hiking. Dig these gloves. Highly recommended.

Vasque Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's

Vasque Wasatch GTX Backpacking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 30, 2009

Wow, can't say enough about these boots. I love the feel, love the look, and love the durability. Make sure you keep the leather conditioned (maybe this is obvious to most people). I found a little crack in my left boot when I let them dry out too much (maybe a few months of neglect). Waterproofing leaves my feet dry and not overheated. The boots take a bit to break in but now they feel great. I wore them the whole weekend last week and they left my feet feeling fresh. I'll be buying the same boot after I wear these out. I have a feeling that will take a while!

The North Face Terra 30 Pack - 1850cu in

The North Face Terra 30 Pack - 1850cu in

Rating for this product: 5 October 27, 2009

Love this pack. Took it down to the Hocking Hills this past weekend and it worked great. Two changes of clothes, sweatshirt, and a fleece. TONS of utility straps and loops, many of which are reinforced. The stretchy pocket on the front held a pair of slide-on shoes and the port hole on the bottom of the pocket prevented the stink from building up too much. It's not listed in the specs but both sides have stretchy pockets as well. Perfect for GPS, knife, map, compass, or flask :) I could take this pack out for two and probably three days with plenty of room for supplies. Nice and light and the waist and sternum straps ride comfortably. Dig this pack. I'd recommend it to anyone.

Great little stove

Coleman F1 PowerBoost Stove

Coleman F1 PowerBoost Stove

Rating for this product: 4 December 12, 2008

I just got back from a camping trip that got down to the single digits. The only problem I encountered was the fact that the auto-ignite would fail sometimes at very cold temperatures (in the morning and at night) or in windy conditions. Don't let that deter you from getting the stove. I had tested it a few times before I left at my house and it fired up first time every time. You can't beat the price. I'd buy this stove again in a heart beat. Helped perc some good coffee that kept me nice and warm!
