  • Stomping Grounds:

    The Sierra
  • Bio:

Bruce Gilman has been an avid mountaineer for the past forty years. During college (1973-1977) he supported himself by doing research and development for Kelty Mountaineering, tuning bikes at Kelty Cyclery, and building packs at Wilderness Experience. These were hell-raising days, testing prototype gear for Great Pacific Iron Works, North Face, and MSR; days before Kelty's numerous corporate buy-outs, when Mr. Kelty still came into the shop; days of free climbing, skiing, and partying with friends whose nicknames reflected their personalities-- Mad Dog, Excess, The Nurse. In 1977, Bruce and two knucklehead friends from Kelty's mail-order department did the first winter accent of Thor Peak. Bruce received his Master's degree from California Institute of the Arts and, in succession, three government grants that allowed him to travel in Brazil, India, and China.  Today he continues with a new group of knuckleheads whose nicknames reflect their personalities--Satan, Whiz Kid, Maule (half man, half mule), mountaineering in some of the most outrageous, untrodden backcountryÂ; imaginable.

Having featherweight gear where you want it, when you want it often spells the difference between failure and success. That is where the Ion Windshirt fits in. Wind resistant, water repellent, and breathable, the Marmot Ion Windshirt is not just another wind breaker. It is a major breakthrough in wind-resistant garment technology.
