looks like a great glove but men's sizing won't work for women

Outdoor Research StormTracker Glove

Outdoor Research StormTracker Glove

Rating for this product: 5 September 30, 2009

Looks like a great glove for skinning and climbing. I bought them for my girlfriend who says she's got small hands, I bought a unisex/men's small, too large though, she tried on some other OR women's med. gloves and they fit great so we unfortunately had to return them, thankfully backcountry is great about working with you on any issues with the items they sell.

Gregory Z 55 Backpack - 3050-3660cu in

September 30, 2009

I am looking for a day and a half pack that will work well when I ski into huts with a sleeping bag and 4 days worth of food. Has someone experimented with attaching skis and stuffing a shovel or probe into this pack? I have the Gregory Targhee in a size small for day skiing and love it, but I need something a bit bigger for the over nighters.

super light & primo clipping

Black Diamond QuickWire Quickpack Quickdraws

Black Diamond QuickWire Quickpack Quickdraws

Rating for this product: 5 September 17, 2009

the draws are super light, they'll twist occasionally but it's not much of a problem considering the nice wire gates and light weight. The wire gate's easy to clip and secure. They work well clipping bolts and seem fine when placing gear.

Perfect draws

Black Diamond Vari-width Dogbone

Black Diamond Vari-width Dogbone

Rating for this product: 5 September 17, 2009

These draws are awesome, they stay put, don't twist, they're easy to clip. The skinny dynex draws are great too but they'll twist and swing unlike these beefy draws.

Awesome helmet

Black Diamond Tracer Helmet

Black Diamond Tracer Helmet

Rating for this product: 5 September 17, 2009

The helmet fits great, stays snug on the noggen, super light and breathable, it has lots of adjustability. I've got an average sized head and the medium fits great, I used to hate wearing the old school petzl but I can even wear this thing around the house!!

Great compass

Brunton 26DNL-CL Mirrored Compass

Brunton 26DNL-CL Mirrored Compass

Rating for this product: 5 April 10, 2009

Nice, simple and easy to use. The declination scale works well and seems easier and quicker to use than turning the tiny screws for the adjustable declination compasses. The clinometer is nice for a little accuracy on slope angle when you're curious beyond the eyeball guess and don't want to set your poles up to get a slope angle. I'm not sure how long the plastic lid with the mirror will remain attached but otherwise the compass is small, simple, and inexpensive, great little tool to add for your snowpits too.

simple, slim, and lightweight

Marmot Tempo Softshell Jacket - Men's

Marmot Tempo Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 April 10, 2009

I'm a little on the shorter side so the small is still a little long, probably fit right at the waist for a 5'8 or taller, slim fit but I can fit a couple of layers underneath it, it doesn't take any room in my pack, I mostly use it for backcountry skiing and it works great, doesn't bunch up with other layers either.

G3 buyer beware

G3 320 Professional Tech Probe

G3 320 Professional Tech Probe

Rating for this product: 1 February 2, 2009

I had this probe for one year, and began having problems within the first two weeks. I never did have to use it for rescue but regularly deployed the probe for digging pits, either the nut on the top wouldn't thread onto the bolt or the internal cable would freeze in one of the segments making deployment and occasionally breakdown impossible. I always dried and stored the probe as directed. I finally contacted G3 about this and they said to send it in for a repair, it may take 2-4 weeks though, G3 does not warranty probes.

another fine BD product

Black Diamond QuickDraw Guide Probe 300

Black Diamond QuickDraw Guide Probe 300

Rating for this product: 5 February 2, 2009

Well designed & well constructed. The probe's quick to deploy/breakdown and well marked. The small butterfly nut that expands to lock the segments together looks finicky but seems indestructible. After using an unreliable and faulty G3 320cm, this probe's a great tool.

Excellent, well designed alpine shell

Arc'teryx Alpha LT Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Alpha LT Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 1, 2008

I hadn't originally had this shell in mind thinking it'd be too light & fragile or not weatherproof enough, one of the staff talked me into it and the shell's amazing. I'm mostly a backcountry skiier, and most of my time is in NW Montana / British Colombia so fairly cold and very wet, the shell keeps my dry, it's super light & breathable, very compact and fits incredibly well, I'm 5'6" and stalky, the shell goes just below my waist, the arms are the perfect length, and it fits whether over a base layer or a down jacket, the zippers and velcro tabs and drawcords are simple, slim, & durable. The hood is a little roomy, I don't wear a helmet and it's intended for that, but it keeps my dry and mostly stays out of the way when necessary. I'd reccomend this for anything alpine.

Great gear bag

The North Face Base Camp Duffel

The North Face Base Camp Duffel

Rating for this product: 5 February 25, 2008

I purchased the duffel for a hut ski trip, it works great being hauled in any sort of cargo trailer or rack, keeps things dry and protected, if you need to haul the duffel on your back for any sort of portage or short hike it'll comfortably carry a lot of weight in a stable concise bag, the zippers are really beefy, my only complaint is that the flashy logo could attract undesirable attn.
