YAKTRAX Pro Shoe Crampon

YAKTRAX Pro Shoe Crampon

Rating for this product: 5 December 15, 2008

Great when everything outside turns to glass. Small, light, easy to put on and take off, non-marring when used over dress shoes, and I stay up-right - what more could I ask for in an urban setting.

Only recommended for urban use.

Big Agnes Iron Mountain Air Sleeping Pad

Big Agnes Iron Mountain Air Sleeping Pad

Rating for this product: 4 October 18, 2008

Rolls down to nothin' in no time. Break camp and on the trail in a matter of minutes. Not that it's all about the mattress, but it's nice when you've got a early storm rollin' in and you're not trying to squeeze the last bit of air out. It's an unplug, roll and stow. Definitely not the weak link in the get-the-heck-out-quick scenario.

Wonderful glasses, but sit way close. Longer eyelashes rub the lenses creating blur right where you want to look. Wish the bridge was a little more narrow.

Thule Crossroad Railing Foot Pack

Thule Crossroad Railing Foot Pack

Rating for this product: 5 October 18, 2008

I bought the Crossroad Railing foot pack, LB 50 load bars, 2 Peloton bike racks, Frontier ES cargo box & an 8 pack of locks.

When I arrived to pick it up from the shipper, the Frontier ES would not fit inside my Subaru to take it home. So, raining as it was, I got to mount the feet, bars and cargo box right in the parking lot.

I sat in the car while reading the directions. Then, within 15 minutes, feet, bars and box were on, and I was headin' home.

It went on in a hurry and I've had no need to tweak the fit over the last month. The Peloton bike racks installed just as quickly, and the locks drop right in.

Two road trips later, couldn't be happier!

Brunton Eclipse 8099 Compass

Brunton Eclipse 8099 Compass

Rating for this product: 4 October 18, 2008

I've had other compasses that range within a degree or two every time I would sight them. This compass is right on. All the other frills and gadgets are nice, but without a rock-solid platform, the frills don't cut it. This compass is right on every time. The only down side is the clinometer, the marker on the back for setting it is not there. A small issue considering they have 3 variations of clinometer and the other two are not effected by this one over site. Not sure if this issue is unique to my compass or to all Eclipse 8099's. But overall, it does not diminish my appreciation for this compass.

Good Concept...

Kasper & Richter Dakar Lensatic Baseplate Compass

Kasper & Richter Dakar Lensatic Baseplate Compass

Rating for this product: 2 October 18, 2008

...but the inner dial hangs up on the pivot, leaving a 3-5 degree variance when trying to fine tune your course. Rarely consistent platform, but the long straight edge is a great idea for map work and I like the see through plate on the sighting side. This allows for a both eyes on target when working at greater distances. Overall, nice idea, but not so hot execution.

Echowell Echo V-3 Cycling Computer

Echowell Echo V-3 Cycling Computer

Rating for this product: 3 October 17, 2008

For the price, all is well. Not the easiest to use with a full fingered gloves in colder conditions as the buttons are a little hard. Love the large screen, easy to read under passing street lights.

Osprey Packs Torque Courier Bag - 1200cu in

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2008

It is what it says it is. If you're expecting a light-weight bag, look elsewhere. It's heavy, and does everything Osprey says it will. Durable and roomy, this bag can take a beating while protecting all the gear inside.

Serfas SL-RC1 Rechargeable Headlight - 1 Watt

Serfas SL-RC1 Rechargeable Headlight - 1 Watt

Rating for this product: 5 May 12, 2008

Easy install and pretty powerful for its size. The high setting is enough light for spotting road debris. While the low is great for alerting others to your presence, it is not enough for road debris - a perfect setting for conserving battery power during twilight hours.

Serfas TL-2100 Tail light

Serfas TL-2100 Tail light

Rating for this product: 4 May 12, 2008

I'm glad I'm not in the car following me looking at this light! Any more than a moment or so, and it is just plain annoying. In other words, it can't be missed - exactly what I'm looking for in a tail light.

So far so good

Garmont Sitka XCR Hiking Boot - Men's

Garmont Sitka XCR Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 31, 2008

I wasn't so sure about the asymmetrical lacing and tongue system. But, after 10 minutes out of the box, I understand how the off-angle lacing really can eliminate toe pinch. As for the tongue and cuff design, it's nice, but not nearly as noticeable as the natural flex in the toe box.

I've had these for about 2 weeks now and I've to put them under pack load, as I would like to make sure new boots won't fail before I get too far back off the trail. So far, they're looking like they'll, not only hold up, but excel in the backcountry.

I'm giving these a four star rating only because they have yet to stand the test of time.

Mountain Hardwear Phantom Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Phantom Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 4, 2008

Lightweight, warm and generally rocks! The weight and pack-down size are phenomenal. The only drawback I see is the perceived weight of the shell. It may be very strong, but it just looks a little thin. I have not had any problems with durability, I just feel like it is more of a down sweater than it is a jacket.

Garmont Ener-G Telemark Ski Boot - Men's

Garmont Ener-G Telemark Ski Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 1, 2008

These things are solid!! So much so, they just want to go of their own accord. If I don't stay on my game, they'll take off without me. Love 'em! I did find my heels went numb during the break-in period, but I've yet to lose feeling in my toes. Still trying to work on the bellows; my tips like to dive when I drop a knee in bottomless pow. A couple more days of hard running and they should come around quite nicely. Bomber...absolutely bomber!
