Stoic Vaporshell Jacket - Men's

Stoic Vaporshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 September 7, 2011

Got this for half off on SAC and am very happy with it. Even for full price i don't think this will disappoint most people. In my opinion this jacket sheds water very well, breathes well, packs down pretty small, has decent features for a stripped down rainshell and looks awesome. I'm quite sure you could find a jacket that would do all the things i just mentioned better but you would be hard pressed to find one for less that two bills that comes close. I was worried about the weight and durability of the fabric before i ordered one, usually anything ripstop is ultra lightweight. Not the case here, i was pleasantly surprised by how durable the fabric is. On the other had they could have used a better cinch for the hood, the neoprene fastener is junk. The worst part about this jacket are the wrist closure, it just is so flimsy. Another half ounce to make this jacket a little better would have gone a long way. I am 6foot even and weigh 165lbs and a large fits with a little room to layer. Good buy.

Icebreaker Beast 150 Boxer Brief w/Fly - Men's

Icebreaker Beast 150 Boxer Brief w/Fly - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 September 7, 2011

I have the older version of these and they are fantastic. They offer little stretch however for not having any lycra through the fabric they hold their shape fairly well. Because they don't stretch they offer more support than the beast anatomica line and in my opinion feel better when you first put them on. But by the end of the day they do loosen up a little where the anatomicas will hold its shape much better for longer. These feel much more durable than the anatomicas and because of that i end up wearing these much more. The fit is spot on and the pouch accommodates a ton of junk comfortably, I know. If you have fantasized about A/C for your underpants this is as close as you can get.

Beast is Best

Icebreaker Beast 150 Apollo Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker Beast 150 Apollo Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 16, 2011

The fit of the beast line is spot on. Being long and lean it can be tough to find a shirt that fits properly. I am a merino whore and this is my new favorite shirt. Not as tight as bodyfit but tighter than the standard fit, this is perfect for everything except as a tight baselayer. I'm six foot tall and weigh 165 and this shirt fits perfectly.

FYI: In the current pic is the new version of the shirt (no tag on back of neck)
This shirt will have a tag which is unfortunately the part that will tear first. This is easily remedied by taking the tag off.

Superfeet Trim-To-Fit Blue Insole

July 10, 2011

I have used the blue for sometime now and am considering giving the green a shot. I have quite flat feet (but am more than comfortable wearing my blues) and was wondering if anyone knew the actual difference of the rise of the arch in the green vs. blue. Thanks

Superfeet Trim-To-Fit Blue Insole

Superfeet Trim-To-Fit Blue Insole

Rating for this product: 4 July 10, 2011

I bought these in response to my doctor telling me that my flat feet were actually the cause of my knee problem. At first i was using them in some $25 flimsy pieces of crap i had for a few years, and even then the difference was substantial. Once i put them in my newbalance 993s i was amazed at the level of support they offer. If you think you may benefit from insoles but are worried that they might be too much for your pathetic arches to handle, start with superfeet blue. These are a quality product however at 35 bucks a pop they are way pricey for a chunk of plastic. Still well worth it, at least for me.

Icebreaker Beast 150 Anatomica Boxer Underwear - Men's

Icebreaker Beast 150 Anatomica Boxer Underwear - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 3, 2011

My lust for all things merino has led me to spend fifty bucks on undies. I also own the original beast boxer brief(no spandex) and these are better. There is one problem with these however, I find myself nervous to wear these because of the exorbitant price. What if something terrible happens to them? God forbid i have some "hard gas" or a frisky temptress isn't cautious around my fancy panties, I would have but no choice except to give her a taste of the back of my hand. Such are the everyday problems faced by a big baller who spends fifty bucks on underwear. I now only wear them while driving my solid gold Ferrari up and down the vegas strip at 300mph.

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Crew - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 27, 2011

As far as comfort goes stoics merino can't be beat. I own a bunch of icebreaker stuff and it just isn't as comfy. This shirt has a surprising amount of stretch to it and feels great on the skin. The fit is perfect as has been my experience with stoic. The one aspect that i would say icebreaker wins in is it's ability to fend off odor. Maybe i was having a stinky few days or something but this shirt seems to hold odor more so than any other wool clothing i own.
Also the softness and stretchiness of the shirt make me wonder about durability, but so far so good.

Darn Tough Merino Wool Micro Crew Cushion Hiking Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 1, 2011

I wear a size med. in every other sock brand and figured the size chart on BC.com was lying so i bought a med. It's not. Needless to say they do not fit my size 9.5-10 feet. However my mother now has some new socks that she just loves. I am looking forward to getting myself a pair sometime soon.

Lorpen Merino Midweight Hiking Crew Sock

Lorpen Merino Midweight Hiking Crew Sock

Rating for this product: 5 January 21, 2011

Because backcountry rocks and sent me a coupon these things cost me only a buck or two. These socks use Schoeller(how fancy) wool which is so soft on the inside and nylon on high abrasion areas for durability. For cold to cool weather doing any activity or just loungin' i would recommend these socks above any other i have ever worn. I really can't stress enough how awesome these socks are, treat yourself and grab a pair.

Goodhew Montrose Sock - Men's

Goodhew Montrose Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 21, 2011

Great socks. If you are looking for nice socks, go with merino wool and you won't go wrong. These socks disappeared the first time they went in the wash and no one knows where they have gone. Sounds like BS to me. That says something about how nice they are. These are the most comfortable socks i own, but with that said they are wearing more quickly than i would like. Also, i know BC.com has them listed as a midweight sock but imo they are quite lightweight.

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Stoic Merino Bliss 150 Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 18, 2011

I have about 5 icebreaker shirts and love them. This shirt is even better. All the properties you come to expect from merino but with a better cut(longer through the body) and cheaper than icebreaker. The zipper is great for dumping heat on the gondola ride, and the thumb holes are the best i have ever seen. I am six foot even and weigh 165lbs and the med fits like it was made for me. You will not be disappointed with this shirt.

Icebreaker BodyFit 150 Atlas Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Icebreaker BodyFit 150 Atlas Top - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 18, 2011

This is a shirt for the long and lean, even more so than with other icebreaker products. Bodyfit is tight but it is meant to be a baselayer. I am six foot even and weigh 165 and this shirt in a med is form fitting without being constricting. I often end up getting a size large in shirts cause i got them monkey arms, but this shirt actually bunches up just a lil' because there is actually excess sleeve! If i could change one thing about this shirt i would make it an inch or two longer thru the body however it fits just fine.

Jacket of the Century

The North Face Mountain Light Jacket - Men's

The North Face Mountain Light Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 13, 2011

I have owned my mountain light jacket for about eleven years now and it is still my go to shell for everything. This jacket fits in somewhere between a pac-lite and pro-shell. It's light enough to bring along everywhere just in case of foul weather but it's not so delicate that you really worry about scraping by branches or taking a spill. In the decade plus i've had it, i have treated this thing with revivex only twice and it's held up in even the worst rain. This jacket comes skiing with me, has been to the tops of the adirondack high peaks in summer and winter-on and off trail, and it continues to shrug off everything that's been thrown at it. I don't see myself getting another shell anytime soon. The only thing this jacket lacks are hand pockets. Excellent jacket at a great price.

Lafuma Warm'n Light 800 Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Lafuma Warm'n Light 800 Sleeping Bag: 30 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 September 23, 2010

This bag feels the exact same thickness as the warm and light 40 degree bag. In my opinion the only difference is the addition of a draft tube running the length of the side zipper. Also the stuff sack rates this bag to 40("comfort") degrees, not 30("transition") as it is advertised as. With that being said i am a cool sleeper and this is more than enough for me as a 3 season bag. Best feature is that it packs down so flippin' small. I don't think i would pay full price for this bag but if you catch it on steep and cheap, get it.

Lafuma Warm'n Light 600 Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 4 September 23, 2010

This bag is very thin. Also the stuff sack it comes with rates it more of a 50degree bag(for comfort). For a summer bag that is light and small in the pack this is a solid buy. If you get it on SAC, it's a steal.

Mammut Creon Pro 38 Backpack - 1540cu in

Mammut Creon Pro 38 Backpack - 1540cu in

Rating for this product: 2 September 23, 2010

I wanted a midsized pack that i could do an overnight or maybe a light weekend with. Also needed to have a raincover included. This pack is very well made, and very comfortable. It has a wicked beefy frame (like could carry 60lbs) that does add a little weight but the comfort is worth it. The problem lies in the mesh suspension back panel. it does not keep the pack away from your back adequately. i will be buying a pack from a pack specific company like deuter or osprey. it's a decent pack but for the same price you can get something truly amazing.

The beam is very focused and isn't the best choice for lighting up a large area. However it is very bright, light, and more than does the job. In a side by side comparison with BDs competing lamp, the BD is brighter and has more varied lighting options. I wouldn't have been thrilled if i payed full price for this. Very good headlamp.

Icebreaker Beast 150 Apollo V-Neck T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 28, 2010

I wanted a nice light shirt for summertime hiking and was very skeptical to try wool. After reading nothing but great reviews i decided to give it a shot. I have worn this shirt for two weeks now without washing it (mostly casual wear) and it doesn't stink at all. This shirt is tighter than your average shirt. I sized up and got a large (6'160lbs.) and for what i wanted it is perfect. If you are using this exclusively as a baselayer get your regular size. I love the way it's sewn, i have got many compliments on mine and tons of people are asking me where they can get one. I have had this shirt about three weeks and have already ordered another icebreaker shirt.

I don't own this jacket. My brother does and boy am i jealous. This jacket does well in every situation from warm summer nights to cold rainy days and will even be just fine in the winter as long as you are active and/or add a baselayer. Mountain Hardwear Wicked Lite T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Wicked Lite T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 13, 2010

This shirt is ultralight and breathes as if you have no shirt at all on. I wouldn't recommend buying this as a base layer specifically, it fits like a regular kinda baggy t-shirt. It's more of a hot day hiking shirt. Also it's going to get some serious snags, but won't fall apart or anything. I wouldn't expect this thing to last too long, but it does what it's supposed to very well.

Ultra warm and very breathable. The shape allows you to pull it down and cover your ears entirely. And the stretchy fleece back panel gives it a nice snug fit so cold air isn't blowing in, and at the same time gives enough stretch that it's not crushing your melon. I cannot imagine there being a better cold weather hat on the market.

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

The North Face Freedom Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 1, 2009

Since these are the uninsulated version i doubt they have the heatseeker eco like it says they do, however they do have a nice brushed poly lining. The outer material is very very durable and they block wind and snow fully. I've never had to use them on a rainy day so i can't attest to the waterproofness of them. They don't offer tons of warmth but the relaxed fit means you can layer all you want. When you're doing work and those legs start burnin these pants have the best ventilation system ever. Between the ankle vents (uncloseable), the side knee vents and the fly you can customize breathablilty. Great pant for the price. I am six feet tall and weigh 160 lbs. and the medium fits great(thanks to a little help from the waist pull tabs!)

Very warm, very light and oh so soft. I've had mine two years now and it's held up pretty decent. These are some killer off road sneaks. Ultra durable mesh uppers and a sole that will grip anything. They provide just the right amount of cushioning so that you don't feel all of those rocks and roots. These shoes provide such insane grip that i can now corner just at fast as my miniature schnauzer. With such an aggressive tread does come a price, these things hate pavement. Those lugs can make it look like it's your first time walking and they wear out kinda quick on hard stuff. Great shoes

Asolo Fugitive Gore-Tex Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 23, 2009

These boots are a great all around boot. A little warm for hot weather hiking but still warm enough to wear for a few hours out in the snow. My main concern buying these boots was the lack of a vibram sole, as all other boots in this price range have them. The rubbermac won't disappoint you, in fact in might even grip better. Quality of build might be an issue, yea it's an Italian company but these puppies are made in Romania. I had an eyelet rip right out on the first pair i was sent but backcountry had another pair on the way before i even had sent the originals back. Absolutely awesome customer support! I have had my boots over a year and a half now and i am still loving them.
