ThirtyTwo Lashed Snowboard Boot - Men's

ThirtyTwo Lashed Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 May 4, 2009

I would consider this a medium flex boot, which I like. They worked well for me in the backcountry and around the mountain, including open groomers and in the park. Although, the boot sole is a bit thick, so I don't get the "feel" of the board that I have had in some other boots, but this also benefited when landing airs a bit flat. Not a big fan of conventional laces anymore, as I'm constantly adjusting them these days and I can't seem to get the upper boot tight enough. Do they make these with a Boa system? Also, the inner lacing system is only decent, but not efficient or well designed as some other boots (ahem..Burton). I found that the inner lacing system doesn't tighten evenly, causing some discomfort. I have only used them a few days though so this will probably get better. True to size.

Keeps you dry, cheap outer shell

Burton AK 2L Cyclic Pant - Men's

Burton AK 2L Cyclic Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 January 13, 2009

I have had no problems with the function of these pants. They keep me very dry. You can't beat Gore-Tex as a waterproofing layer and I won't buy snowboard pants without it anymore (or an equivalent waterproofing system like e-Vent). The Mediums fit me perfectly with just enough sag (5'10", 32" waist). I've never had to worry about getting wet in these pants.

However, I find the outer material to be rather thin and cheap. This pant is the lowest line of the AK line and it shows. I've have 17 days on these pants this year and they're starting to show lots of wear already. The side pockets are showing some fraying including holes in the shell material. I'm not even sure how the fraying is occurring. It could be from either rubbing up against branches when I ride or when I walk with the board on my side. Either way, I'm surprised to see the material fraying this much already. I also see it in the pant leg cuffs, especially in the area where you sometimes rest the edge of the board when sitting on the lift. Some wear is to be expected here, but I'm seeing a lot of it already.

Additionally, if you get cold easily and don't like to wear lots of layers, then stay away from these pants. These are basically a shell and have no insulation. I expected this and prefer layers so I have not any issues with warmth.

I'll probably use these through the end of the year (if they last that long) then move on and find a better brand with a tougher material. I really wish someone would create some tough, light and waterproof snowboard pants with a bit of style.

Burton AK 2L Gore-tex Stagger Jacket - Men's

Burton AK 2L Gore-tex Stagger Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 13, 2009

Great Shell. Very happy with my purchase. I have a 39" chest. Initially got a Medium, which was slightly too tight in the shoulders and returned it for a Large, which is bigger than I like, but better than the medium. The material used for this jacket is good and tough. I ride Northeast trees so I'm constantly in contact with branches. With this jacket, I've had no worries about the jacket getting snagged or ripping (stay away from the Cyclic line). Keeps you dry and warm with the right layers. Hood fits over my helmet. Perfect pocket placement and number. Ipod pouch is useless though. It's too low in the inner pocket and your ipod will bounce around when riding. I use my fleece layer's pocket instead. I have classic Black. Won't go out of style next year.

Feels like a basketball sneaker

Burton Ion Snowboard Boot - Men's

Burton Ion Snowboard Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 13, 2009

I have a pair from a few years ago. These fit like a glove. No hot spots. Feet never get cold. Heels always stay in place even when I keep them loose. Not the stiffest boot on the market, which is good. I previously had the Rulers and these are definitely softer than those as well as much more comfortable. I'm constantly messing with my laces throughout the day so the quick lace system is a godsend. I continue keep these on hours after riding, when I'm in the bar and never even think about loosening them up and it has nothing to do with how many Long Trails I've had. Best boot I've ever owned.
