ha.. yes we need a curley video.....
The materials performance is related to the washing.... Wash often. Bacon grease from breakfast, sunscreen from morning, cheese from lunch, and sweaty palms from evening climb all make the DWR wear out.
Wash cold to warm water, use a nikwax tech wash, or a mild soap. avoid normal laundry detergent, it has surfactants (the opposite of DWR).
After a summer of washes and wears, for best performance, spray on a DWR. Nikwax softshell, or a TX direct. dry a bit on medium heat and it will evenly coat the outside, and make a Big improvement in maintaining DWR.
The key to a softshell working as a shell, is a strong water repellancy on the surface.

An XL would be good for layering under, and having plenty of arm length.

A patch of material is good, and then use a seam grip, or aquaseal, or a Polyurethane glue. apply the glue to the patch and apply to the hole. then add a piece of wax paper and lay a large book or dictionary on top to keep it flat. wait over night and you have a patch that is well bonded and waterproof. The goretex patches, and other patches with a self adhesive on one side i have tried to do not stay on.

height and weight is not quite enough to judge size... try using the size tab, just under the 'select options' this give you better specific dimensions for waist, and inseam. these measures will result in an athletic fit, if you want loose, go up a size.

it is not 100% windproof, as it has some air permeability features. about 95% windproof, with the remaining allowing some air exchange about 6-10 cfm. this allows the jacket to breathe when exerting in the mountains - hiking for side country gates, touring up alpine, or climbing. the TNF apex summit uses WINDBLOC - windproof, but poor breathability - means you can get wet with exertion

if you like the older goat merino styles from 2009, you will love the 200 weight from stoic. the 200 grams per square meter is heavier, more dense and uses 18.9 micron merino, which results in warmer and a more structured material. this 150 gsm is light, and uses a soft 17.5 merino, personally my favorite for its great feel, and just enough warmth.

the water resistance is good for light and fast conditions - the jacket is light, and when it starts raining its time to run to the car fast! the material does not use a coating, so the breathability is great. the DWR finish we use will repel water, but intended only for the short interval during aerobic activities that keep you warm. If in constant wet weather, a vaporshell jacket would be more suitable.

This material has great breathability, and even a small amount of air permeability approx 4-7 cfm. because this lightweight fabric does not have any coatings, it will breath better than most lightweight shells. we rely on the tight weave and DWR for it weather proofness, but still maintains the ability to breathe and self regulate for comfort.

The CFM rating is approx 4-7 cfm of air permeability. being a waterproof jacket, this unique quality allows a small amount of air to pass through the membrane, and more importantly, allows the moisture rich air inside the jacket to pass out of the jacket. a Gore-tex jacket has 0 cfm rating, but also performs much less in breathability.

They have a heavy merino liner in them, and a small amount of primaloft in the back of the hand. They are pretty warm, but pretty dextrous too, so that is always a tradeoff...
We backcountry ski in the wasatch, and air temps can be zero, and blowing, hands are still great. but sitting on a lift for a long time, or being pretty still, your hands get cold.
this year, the merino wool is thick, and makes the glove feel a little tight out of the bag. size up if you are concerned, and wear them a day to help pack in the liner.

wash with Nikwax techwash, or if another country a delicate wash (no surfactants). DWR treatment may be needed after a few washes, use a spray on nikwax softshell proofing. this will make the surface bead up water, and breath better.

only describing the face fabric. the 480 is heavier, tougher, and stiffer. the 320 is lighter, less stiff (but still crinkly and noisy), and less durable.
in practical use, if the end use is skiing trees, ice climbing, or alpine climbing the heavier fabric is better to take the use, and abuse of abrasion, snagging, and tree impact.
if the end use is more touring, used as wet weather only and a softshell is primary shell, hiking, backpacking, the lighter weight material, better packability, is more appropriate

washing is encouraged. wash with a tech wash, or a delicate soap. softshell treatment is also advised one or twice a season to max the dwr and water replellency, depending on use. wash in is not advised on any softshells, since you want the exterior to repel, but you want the lining to wick moisture away, and drive to the outer surface.
durability of the hi loft- zip the jacket up and wash right side, exterior out. and a hint to help with your monkey fur - wash it with monkey fur side inside, and this minimizes pilling.

hood is helmet compatible. the softshell material allows it to fit close and is weather proof, powder proof, and also tends to be made for more backcountry use. the extra weight of snow skirts and more bulk tipped the scales. good input though, we would like to make all these jackets with all features, and No features, so that all users got exactly what they wanted! Stay tuned for future styles!

this jacket uses a soft shell material, with no membrane. great weather proof material - wind and water resistant. and because if has not membrane, this softshell is quieter, stretches more, and lighter weight, great for us that live and ride, thrive in the Wasatch. if you are in the northwest, and you ride in the full on wet weather, then i would have to suggest the bombshell material!

unfortunately your height and weight does little to help us suggest a size... see the size chart, measure your actual chest, and you should be able to choose.
weight, its lighter and softer than the icebreaker 260. winter runs in 40 degree, no wind, should be good on its own, but a winter run, 30 degrees, no sun, and windy..... you need a soft shell that breathes, but cuts some wind.

not sure what your sizing is, but if your tall and lanky, check some of your measurements, and get a size up. the arms are long, the arm holes are fitted, so this minimizes the lift on this jacket. this material stretches well, over 10% stretch, but it is still a laminated powershield for great wind and weather resistance.

The event shell is more durable, and more substantial than a goretex pac lite material. breathes better and more comfortable too. this event material is three layer, and a durable face fabric and a tricot lining to help absorb and wick moisture through the material. the pac lite is engineered for light weight, and stashable, but they then use the lightest face fabric, no inner lining.
if you are out there harassing trees alot, check out the stoic 2.0, with bombshell, as the name suggests, its way durable.
the stoic 2.0 jacket with bombshell is made for more fall, winter, spring season, it can handle the backcountry, sidecountry, and inbounds skiing.

the welder material is the Polartec Powershield. this has great breathability. we actually measure the breathability with Air permeability - you can feel a little wind able to blow through the softshell to help in venting. The powershield will not hold up to constant rain, or warmer winter conditions of snow that melts on you.
the Stoic Bombshell material is water proof. because it has a waterproof lamination, you lose some of the breathability. still great breathability that rivals goretex, and membrain, but can not compare to the awesome breathability of powershield

this jacket is POWER SHIELD material, a very different material than the fleece powerstretch.
Power shield is a laminatiion, with a two layers of fleece, bonded to a inner laminate. this is a complicated process to build this 3 layer laminate, but the benefits are then far more water resistant, wind resistant, warmer, and yet breathable.
both the tahoe, and the lighterweight panels are powershield. the gray may be a little cooler, as it has a thinner and softer face fabric.

this largely depends on the environment that you ski in - normal, or nuking...
Nuking weather - Stoic 2.0 - if you snowboard in the rain, warm wet snow, on the snow alot, or spending most time in really wet weather, or even fishing in the bering sea. A bit of mechanical stretch makes this quieter than most water proof breathables.
normal weather - Shift welder - this material is made to handle the conditions that most people are in, most of the time. good weather, but cold and needing insulation, windy or fast skiing or boarding, and need windproofness, and can handle snow, wet snow, and some rain. the Shift welder performs on the ascent, breathing far better than any waterproof breathable.

nikwax softshell proofing will work great. be certain to only spray it on the outside, but keep the fleece inner as is so that it can continue to wick moisture away from your body.

a question was asked on the mens cocona shirt, what is Cocona?
Cocona Materials is a carbon infused polyester. if you can see the inside of the shirt it is darker carbon color, used next to skin.
The carbon is a byproduct from the water filtration industry, and is carbon that comes from coconut shells. coconut shells are very dense, and also a byproduct of the coconut milk and meat industry. this very fine carbon powder is extruded with the polyester, creating surface area equivalent to a football field in a shirt! this surface area allows incredible drytimes. it does not feel like a typical synthetic shirt, but much drier. the carbon also does a good job of NATURALLY absorbing odors.

Air permeability rating is like 7 CFM, which allows some slight wind to pass through. while windproof, this does also allow great breathability, allowing small amount of air in, to carry away the humidity found inside. To be accurate - 'breathable' is really 'moisture transfer'. When its cold and you start sweating you will see steam (moisture) escaping through a "Highly Breathable" jacket. you will not get this on a goretex jacket, only an Event jacket can compare to the powershield in moisture Transfer."Highly Water Resistant" means it will shed snow, and shed rain, due to a outer smooth face treated with Durable Water Repellent (DWR) finish. in most weather you will still be dryer than in a goretex shell. Reapply a DWR finish for optimum repellency (similar maintenance as lubing a chain on a mt bike, for best performance). in a torrential downpour, it will eventually wet out, and get wet, best to have a event shell in these conditions to keep all water out, but also allow moisture to be transported out.

The Stoic 2.0 uses a proprietary BOMBSHELL material. While it does not breathe quite as well as event (nothing does!), it has some advantages. 1. BOMBSHELL materials have stretch, event does not. this means a closer fit, but still great range of motion, event you need to wear a larger jacket for the same range of motion.2. BOMBSHELL material is quieter, rattles less when your bombing down a bowl at 50mph.3. BOMBSHELL materials are weldable, event is not. The Stoic 2.0 is welded construction, all flat seams, more efficient to manufacture a fully waterproof low bulk, 3-d fitting jacket. The Stoic 2.0 is more durable material, great stretch, great fit, and waterproof thanks to the bombshell material.
