Great Material, Bad Shape Cocona No-Show Sock

Backcountry.com Cocona No-Show Sock - 4 Pack

Backcountry.com Cocona No-Show Sock - 4 Pack

Rating for this product: 2 August 15, 2008

I've used these socks probably a dozen times since I purchased them. I love the material, lightweight, sturdy, doesn't accumulate 'stink'. I've used them for trail running and just wearing everyday.

However, the fatal flaw of these socks is the cut of the ankle line - lower in the back then in the front. Due to the fact that the back of the sock is super low, every pair of running shoes I have goes higher then the sock. This causes really bad chafing (perhaps due to the edge of the fabric being below the top of the shoe). After one 8 mile run the chafing was so bad that the skin over my achilles was bleeding... That's when I decided that these socks just don't cut it for running.

Geat quality, funny shape Reef Sultan Sandals

Reef Sultan Sandal - Men's

Reef Sultan Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 August 15, 2008

I love the smooooth leather. Quite comfortable for a flip flop. Seems to be well made after 1 month of use.

The problem I have with them is the sizing/shape. I typically wear a 9.5 in men's shoes, but I had to order a 10 in these to get one that kind of fit. The base is too narrow (although I have medium-narrow feet), and the front is too short (and I have probably average to short toes). So, if you have very narrow feet with short toes, these will be fine, otherwise, probably want to go elsewhere.

La Sportiva Fireblade Trail Running Shoe - Men's

June 25, 2008

From the pictures, the tread on these shoes looks pretty weak. Anyone out there know how well the tread works in multi-terrain settings? I'm talking grass, dirt, mud, rocks, etc...

Sweet Jacket

Backcountry.com Shift Softshell Jacket - Men's

Backcountry.com Shift Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 24, 2007

This is one of the best pieces of outdoor gear I have ever owned. Functions great, looks awesome, fits well. It seems that most jackets are designed to fit the average (overweight) person - not so for this one - very good athletic fit.

It is also very good for a wide range of weather conditions - windy, rainy, snowing, and cool. I've worn it hiking in mild snow storms (30F) and it was all I needed for my torso. It also works well in the spring when you get chilly or the wind picks up.

Comfortable and Versatile

Inov 8 Terroc 330 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Inov 8 Terroc 330 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 24, 2007

These shoes are great! Very comfortable right out of the box.
I tried on about 12 different pairs of shoes (from several different brands), and I liked these the best. I like the level of padding (your foot is fairly level in the shoe instead of sloping forward like many running shoes), the traction, and the stiffness/flexibility of the shoes. The do work well on both trail and road.
I typically run about 30 miles per week, and these shoes seem to be holding up well, and not causing any adjustment problems.

Sturdy

Brunton MY-Ti Spork

Brunton MY-Ti Spork

Rating for this product: 5 July 24, 2007

I thought sporks went out of style in the fifth grade, but I was wrong. They re-created the classic in nearly indestructible titanium.

If you like sporks, this beats the plastic or metal ones any day.

This watch is sturdy and has a nice easily read display.
The major drawback is that it is quite large and thick.

Nalgene Lexan Wide Mouth Water Bottle - 32oz DO NOT USE

Rating for this product: 5 July 11, 2007

Sturdy, excellent ounce measuring lines, no taste even after sitting in car all day with outside temps at 100F. Large enough to be useful for water, shakes, or other beverages. There is even a large selection of colors. Also, I love the goat logo on the side!

Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tech T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Wicked Tech T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 6, 2007

This is a great shirt for running in hot weather. I stay cool and comfortable - with no chaffing. Seems to be sturdy enough from what I've done.
Other reviewers have said that it stays odor free - I disagree. After just a short run it stinks badly - plus there is a chemical smell that it exudes whether clean or dirty.

Nice but frail

Under Armour Red Line T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Under Armour Red Line T-Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 July 5, 2007

This shirt keeps you cool and doesn't chafe. Very comfortable. Love the smooth material and more mesh like back. However, in just one 8-mile run with a hydration pack, it shows signs of wear in 2 or 3 places. My estimate is that if you ran a marathon with a hydration pack this shirt would have several holes by the end.

Under Armour Red Line Short - Men's

Under Armour Red Line Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 5, 2007

Lightweight, keeps you cool, keeps you from getting sweaty. The built in briefs are comfortable and keep things in place that should stay in place. The only thing I'd change about these is a longer inseam.

Sturdy and comfortable

The North Face Arnuva 50 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

The North Face Arnuva 50 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 July 5, 2007

These shoes do well on both trail and road. While the fit is loose, my feet don't slide around on flat, uphill, or even steep downhill trails. The fit is a bit on the small size - I had to go up 1/2 size. If you're wondering how these compare to the Arnuva 50 Boa - these shoes have a more pointed toe box, and lack the boa lacing system. I'd recommend you pay the extra money and go with the Arnuva 50 Boa over these.

Throw out the cotton socks - buy these instead

Teko Ultralight Low Sock - Men's

Teko Ultralight Low Sock - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 July 5, 2007

These wool socks are great! I've always hated wool - too itchy and smells like wet sheep when sweaty or damp. However, these socks are very comfortable, cool, and they really keep down the odor. I can wear them for 2 or 3 short runs (like 20 miles total) without them smelling. They fit well, and don't stretch or turn into wet sponges on hot days (like cotton socks do).

Weird at first, but your feet will love 'em

injinji Performance Crew Sock

injinji Performance Crew Sock

Rating for this product: 5 July 5, 2007

The individual toe sleeves feel a bit strange at first, but after a few times you won't even notice. These socks keep your feet cool, dry, and comfortable. I've had no chafing or problems when wearing these on 17-mile runs on sidewalks - and 8 mile trail runs. I have a few bits of advice about purchasing these socks: If you're going to be trail running in these, avoid the white - the white stays white only until you put them on for the first time. Secondly, if you're going to be running in warm or hot weather, buy the mini crew length, you'll stay much cooler.

Sweet Pack

Gregory Targhee Backpack - 1900-2200cu in

Gregory Targhee Backpack - 1900-2200cu in

Rating for this product: 4 July 5, 2007

I use this pack for short camping, backpacking, and even road trips and love it. Very sturdy and comfortable. Lots of pockets. The waterproof level of this pack seems excellent. I only have 2 complaints about this pack. 1) The largest compartment is only accessible through the small top opening. 2) I always want to carry more stuff, so I find myself wishing it was bigger. Maybe I just need to pack lighter...

Outdoor Research Sun Runner Cap

Outdoor Research Sun Runner Cap

Rating for this product: 5 July 5, 2007

This hat is great for running in the sun. It keeps the sun out of my face, and doesn't heat me up. I don't use the sun skirt, but it goes on and off easily and really covers well. The head band does an awesome job of keeping the sweat out of my face. The hat fits very well - and is easily adjustable. It even stays on no problem in windy conditions. Overall, this hat has made me want to buy more hats from Outdoor Research.
