PRETTY GOOD BOOTS SO FAR

Merrell Chameleon4 Mid Ventilator Gore-Tex Hiking Boot - Men's

Merrell Chameleon4 Mid Ventilator Gore-Tex Hiking Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 March 6, 2012

I bought 2 pair of these from Backcountry. 1 pair in a size 8.5 and 1 pair in a size 9. I did it that way to make sure I could get a good fit. I found that they run a bit small. I returned the size 8.5 which I normally wear.

PROS: look good, have great stability, have good support, give good protection from underfoot rocks and roots, and are indeed waterproof

CONS: feet sweat when temps are above 55 degrees even when sitting still, the toe protection cap will dig into the top of your toes if you croutch down while wearing them (pretty painful)

OVERALL: Not a bad boot for cooler weather use which is what I bought them for, just be careful how you croutch down when wearing them. They do have plenty of room in the toe box.

GREAT BOOTS SO FAR!

Salomon 3D Fastpacker Boot - Men's

Salomon 3D Fastpacker Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 March 6, 2012

I own 2 old pairs of Salomon boots. I had to get them in a size 9 even though I normally wear a size 8.5 because they were so narrow. I bought a pair of the Fastpacker boots from Backcountry in a size 9 hoping they would fit like the other boots. Sadly, they didn't. They fit very true to size, so I had to return them, because they were a little big. Unfornutately, Backcountry is currently out of the size 8.5 so I'll have to wait to buy an other pair. I was able to get 1 pair in my size from an other company, and they look, feel, and fit great. They felt broken in right out of the box. I took them on a 12 mile hike with a 35 pound pack, and they gave very good stability and protection from rocks underfoot. I love the way they're very lightweight, yet supportive. I will be buying a 2nd pair when Backcountry gets my size back in stock.

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

February 22, 2012

You can get a basic canister at some Wallmarts, but they don't work as well as MSR, Snow Peak, Brunton or Primus canisters. I have used all of them. You can have canisters shipped to you in bulk through various online retailers, so look around. The only thing being that they can't air ship the canisters... ground shipping only. Hope this helps.

GREAT BRIEFS!

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Brief - Men's

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 27, 2011

These briefs are great. I'm an Infantry ARMY Vet of too many years to count. In hot climates like Hawaii and Iraq I would sweat profusely to the point of being soaked through and through, and be forced to stay that way sometimes for days. It regularly got to the point where I would be rubbed raw in all the wrong places because of the excessive continuous moisture. NOT A GOOD THING! Then I discovered these briefs. In the OHIO ARMY NATIONAL GUARD, again in the Infantry, I started wearing these briefs, and didn't have the problem with excessive prolonged moisture build up anymore. I will never go back to cotton / polyester briefs again. I would give the briefs 5 stars if they weren't so expensive. Although they are less expensive than most other high tech ones. Nowdays I do a fair bit of rockclimbing, hiking, jogging, mountain biking, and backpacking. These briefs work even better for these persuits. Pros: Very comfortable, lightweight, excellent moisture management, dry quickly. Cons: Price, anti-stink formula doesn't work very well (nor do any others I've tried) must be washed by hand or they begin to pick badly. Summary: Overall, excellent briefs. This is my 9th pair. Only the first pair has fallen apart, due to washing in a top loading machine. I highly recomend.

Great underware!

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Brief - Men's

ExOfficio Give-N-Go Brief - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 30, 2010

I personaly think that paying $17 for a pair of underware is crazy. Having said that, $17 beats the price of most others.

These underware are very comfortable, fit nicely and breathe very well. I sweat a lot during speed hikes and backpacking trips and until now had to go without wearing any underware because of chafing and sweat retention. Not anymore. I would recomend these to anyone that wants more support than boxers provide during high exertian persuits.

The odor-resistant finish doesn't work very well for me, but none of them do. I think I'm too much of a sweathog. LOL

Great Pants!

Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant - Men's

Columbia Omni-Dry Silver Ridge II Convertible Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 12, 2010

The Sage color looks mainly brown on the website. I'm a photographer by trade and do a lot of graphic imaging, so my monitor is spot on for color, brightness, and contrast. I only mention this to clarify that the color on the website is exactly how it looks on my monitor. The Sage pants are much lighter and have 3 times as much green as it shows on my monitor.

Otherwise, the pants are fantastic for colder weather. They wick sweat very well, fit comfortably, and don't have the annoying swishy sound when you walk. Also, they do not restrict movement when high stepping.
Summary: Other than color, the pants are great!

NO SEALED SEAMS!!!!

Integral Designs Silcoat Pack Cover

Integral Designs Silcoat Pack Cover

Rating for this product: 2 August 8, 2009

I bought 2 of these in the grey color, one size small and the other size large.

Pros: Very light weight out of box. Gromet reinforced area toward the bottom that exposes the shock cord which makes it possible to feed through pack belt for wind resistance.

Cons: More expensive than some others. Seams are not sealed, which makes them useless out of the box.

Summary: No seam sealing is why they're so light weight. After seam sealing, the small weighs 3.6 oz after also removing all tabs and labels. Also after replacing drawcord and lock on stuffsack with much lighter ones. That's an addition of 1 full oz for the small. The large with all of the above modifications weighs 4.6 oz which is 1.3 oz heavier.

If you're looking for sealed seams and funtionality out of the box, I'd suggest that you consider other covers. After all, now they weigh as much as nearly any other.

GREAT SHIRT FOR FALL WEATHER

GoLite DriMove Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

GoLite DriMove Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 September 16, 2008

I bought 2 of these for use during fall Backpacking in Ohio, WV, and PA. I wore this to a bar the other night where the air conditioning was on full blast to where everyone was complaining about being cold. I, however was just fine in this shirt. Even when working up a pretty good sweat dancing in a crowded space, the material wicked sweat great and the Cocona kept me from stinking out my friends by he end of the night. My only small complaint is that one of the shirts is a bit tighter fitting than the other. For fashion a fopau but for on the trail no problem. Overall very happy with the shirts so far.
