GoLite Ultra Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down

GoLite Ultra Sleeping Bag: 20 Degree Down

Rating for this product: 2 December 3, 2008

At 19 oz this thing is light but the 20*F rating is off by 10-15 degrees. The Ultra 20 only keeps you cool not warm at 25*F with softshell pants, TNF Impulse Hoodie (hood on), wool socks and beanie on. Compared to my Golite Feather 20* bag with the same clothes minus the hood on the hoodie and the beanie I can go to 13*F and be toasty warm. I was useing a montbell ul 90 and GG 3/8" CCF pad in both cases. This quilt is more a 30/35* rated quilt. Stitch quality is poor as well. Found several loose threads on both edges and down coming out. The plastic loops look and feel very fragile as well. The straps are way too long as well. The shape and size are great for great coverage that keeps drafts at bay. The loft is just lacking for the 20*F rating.

Big Agnes Pitchpine SL Sleeping Bag: 40 Degree Down

November 21, 2008

How does the neck cinch down on this bag? I had a Yampa by BA and it just cut across my throat and didn't seal around my throat to keep the heat in. Does this seal tight enough and comfortably to keep the heat in?

Light and comfortable

Pearl Izumi Syncro Seek 2 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Pearl Izumi Syncro Seek 2 Trail Running Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 October 2, 2008

Use this shoe for ultralight backpacking and have found the cushion to be very comfortable. At 165lbs and carrying my whole family's (3 people) gear (37lbs) for a RMNP trip, the shoes never felt flat. Good support and decent traction. Very breathable. Very light on my feet. Durability is much improved over previous incarnations by Pearl Izumi. I've owed the last 2 versions.

Ultra light warmth!

MontBell Ultralight Down Jacket - Men's

MontBell Ultralight Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 2, 2008

Montbell makes some of the best ultra light garments. I got this to go with the UL Down Pants. Fit is right on and the weight is just a hair over 7 oz for the jacket. Packs down super small and keeps me warmer than a fleece of the same weight. Quality materilas and build.

MSR Duralite Frypan

MSR Duralite Frypan

Rating for this product: 4 October 2, 2008

Pretty light non-stick pan that just does it job. Well made. Teflon looks like it will last if you take care of it. I wrap mine in a bandana and use plastic utensils. Non-stick works well.

Great fit and stretch!

Cloudveil Inertia Guide Pant - Men's

Cloudveil Inertia Guide Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 2, 2008

Enertia fabric breathes really well and the lack of lycra allows it to dry faster than lycra based softshells. Mesh backed pockets are great for enhancing breathability in warm conditions and for allowing your body heat to dry out damp gloves as you hike. DWR sheds snow really well. Fit is superb and the stretch is fantastic. Cloudveil makes some really smart garments.
