prAna Satchel Bag - Women's

September 13, 2009

When this bag is empty, it is 18" wide and 13" tall. But the side panels are 5" wide, so if you have it completely filled, it would be 13" wide and 11" tall, with a thickness of 5" all around. Good for your purse/carry-on during airline travel.

Black Diamond Stopper Set #4-13

September 13, 2009

No! But every once in a while you find small constrictions on a route, and you can definitely use small nuts here and there at the Creek (the first pitch of Lightning Bolt Cracks on North Six Shooter, and Inflictor at Broken Tooth come to mind). I prefer the Metolius stoppers myself.

prAna Becca Tank Top - Women's

July 5, 2009

Hi Alli, I am holding this tank right now, so I can describe it to you. The built-in bra is the same fabric as the straps (which is a slightly contrasted color to the main body, but the same fabric). So the bra is the same fabric as the tank, and is very light and stretchy. The bottom of the shelf has a soft, brushed surface elastic, about 1 inch wide, with a scalloped bottom edge. I find this tank to fit very snugly, so I have it in size medium, when I usually get size small in the short prAna tanks.

The Best

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

MSR Pocket Rocket Stove

Rating for this product: 5 July 1, 2009

This stove plus the Titanium Teakettle plus a fuel canister = super light weight. I bring this set up even on big walls, and I get coffee in the morning and soup at night, rather than hauling cans up the wall. I also have it in my truck, as an emergency backup in case my big propane campstove canister runs out suddenly (like they tend to do). I also pack this (without the fuel canister, just buy one there) for Europe trips, so I can always have coffee in the morning and save money. Ive used this set up on Torre Egger too. You can wedge a small-size lighter into the red carrying case, so you never end up without one. I cant really say enough good things about this stove. Its one of the best pieces of gear I own.

Light fabric, very comfortable

prAna Bliss Skort - Women's

prAna Bliss Skort - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 June 29, 2009

I like the Bliss fabric a lot--also have the shorts and knickers. Its light and stretchy, but also has a bit of body to it. The Skort is great because you dont have to feel like youre actually wearing a skirt, and you can hike in it. The pockets curve out a little from the sides, so at first I thought I needed to size up, but its just how those side seam pockets behave. A great skort for those really hot days.

Metolius Ultralight Power Cams

Metolius Ultralight Power Cams

Rating for this product: 5 June 18, 2009

On my rack, I currently use Aliens up to the red, and Metolius Power cams from orange to purple. The weight savings is amazing, compared to Black Diamond camalots, which is what I used to use, especially in the bigger sizes. They are stable, beefy looking (which inspires confidence), and LIGHT.
Great cams.

Good Hand, Lightweight

Mammut Galaxy Climbing Rope - 10mm

Mammut Galaxy Climbing Rope - 10mm

Rating for this product: 5 June 7, 2009

Ive used a lot of different ropes, and hands down, Mammut ropes are the best. The 10 mm looks and feels much thinner than other 10 mm ropes, and it is lighter. Above all, even after months of use, it retains the firmness of a new rope, rather than getting soft and yarn-like. My pet peeve is trying to clip with a soft, fuzzy old rope, because its definitely harder to get the rope in the biner. Mammut ropes dont seem to break down like that, and they keep their good handling even after tons of use.

Great for climbing and more

prAna 70's Cord Pant - Women's

prAna 70's Cord Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 27, 2009

These pants are great because you can climb in them comfortably, thanks to the little bit of stretch. I like very low rise pants, because they don't pinch my waist, and I think they are more flattering. They are soft, somewhat thick, and very warm. The waist sits low under your harness, which is good.

I like these pants a lot for base jumping in the colder season too. It's easy for me to fit my knee pads under them, and they haven't ripped or worn through, probably thanks to the stretch in the fabric which also adds to the durability.

I wear them all the time for camping and casual use too, so they are the perfect cords--good for technical use, but also a favorite live-in pant for normal life.

Great Everything Pants

prAna Tenaya Pant - Women's

prAna Tenaya Pant - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 27, 2009

These pants are awesome for everything. The fabric and fit are really good. I use them for rock climbing, alpine climbing, hiking, nordic skiing and base jumping. They are fairly lightweight, and you can roll them up if its warm, and they are great with a thin pair of long underwear if its cold. The thigh pocket is very unobtrusive, and has served me well for little stuff (chapstick, ishuffle, bars). The fabric has a bit of stretch, so it climbs great. The adjustable buckle is nice, because sometimes I need to cinch them up a bit. I like the stone color a lot, because it is very cool in the hot season. I like the low rise on these pants, because they are very comfortable and flattering. I basically never found a good pair of tech pants, ever, until I found these. So I really like them!

prAna Organic Cargo Pant - Women's

May 23, 2009

I have these pants in the capri version.
They have a rear welt pocket (that means no flaps, with finished edges around the pocket) with a button.
I love the capris, because the fit is so nice on the hips, and the pants are the same cut.

prAna Chalk Bag - Women's

prAna Chalk Bag - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 10, 2009

I like this chalk bag a lot, because it's small and light. Im always trying to shave weight on everything, and a chalk bag is one thing you always have on you. it does close tightly, and the toothbrush holder is in the right place (sounds silly, but on some bags it's not). simple, and it does everything a chalk bag should do.

New Favorite Zip-up

prAna Ombre Full-Zip Sweatshirt - Women's

prAna Ombre Full-Zip Sweatshirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 May 7, 2009

i wanted to write a review on this sweatshirt, because i don't think the photo does it justice. i ordered one, and i was amazed at how pretty it is. the color fade dye is really stylish, and has a very unique look. i also like the weight (light french terry inside, normal sweatshirt looking fabric outside) and i find myself wearing it a lot over a t-shirt or a sport top when climbing or base jumping. it has a very cute open circle metal zipper pull. i could have easily overlooked this one, and it has become my favorite light zip jacket.

the perfect solution

Five Ten Project Climbing Shoe

Five Ten Project Climbing Shoe

Rating for this product: 5 May 7, 2009

i just got a pair of these, and i am way too excited about them!
i'm used to a more traditional foot technique, been wearing anasazis for years, and have never had any luck with the severely downturned shape of the new-style sport climbing shoes. they always seem to hurt my feet, and i just find myself unable to use my feet on normal-type smear holds and edges, which is usually a lot of the time even on steep stuff, for me.
these projects seem like the perfect combination of that sort of downturned shoe, and a more "normal" flatter sole. they are also comfortable immediately, and are allowing me to climb with footwork of both styles. i'm pretty psyched on these....!!

Black Diamond Sabretooth Clip Crampons with ABS

May 4, 2009

these are not ideal for hiking boots, because of the rear bail. that is meant to snap into the groove on mountaineering style boots.
you want a pair of crampons that has a strap on the back, just like the strap on the front of this pair, rather than the wire bail. those are a lot more versatile for general use, because you can even put them on with sneakers, in a pinch. it is possible to force these to work on normal hiking boots, but it is definitely not ideal. grivel makes a really nice crampon, with webbing straps for front and back, which are lighter and more packable. the stiff plastic on these makes it a little less convenient to stow them away in a compact fashion.

Five Ten Jet 7 Climbing Shoe

April 23, 2009

Hi Jenny, if you have very narrow feet, you will probably want 1/2 to 1 size smaller than your men's hiking shoe size. people with wide feet seem to need the same size as street shoe. keep in mind that 5.10 uses women's sizing for the women's specific shoes.

prAna Convertible Pant - Women's

April 6, 2009

I like these pants a lot. The rise is low, but a little longer than the Tenaya pant and the 70's cords (which are super low). The back is clean-looking, with two pockets. The fit seems very flattering, as well as comfortable. They run a bit big, but they have a draw string, so you can have the comfort of a slightly looser fit, but won't lose them if you use the string.

Mammut Moses Wire Gate Carabiner

Mammut Moses Wire Gate Carabiner

Rating for this product: 5 April 6, 2009

These are the best biners I've ever used. A Metolius Powercam with a Moses biner weighs half of the old set-up I used to run. This adds up to a pretty significant weight savings on a complete rack, especially when you include quickdraws and free biners..... I love these for sport climbing too, and find the small size actually makes for easier clipping. I'm pretty excited about these!!

Five Ten Anasazi Low Volume Climbing Shoe - Women's

Five Ten Anasazi Low Volume Climbing Shoe - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 April 6, 2009

I've been wearing Anasazi Velcros for the last fourteen years. I didn't think they could be improved until the LV women's version came out. The LVs are even more comfortable and climb even better, thanks to the improved heel cup. I use these for sport climbing, granite climbing, and even super-thin sandstone cracks. They are my all time favorite shoe.

Mammut Dyneema Contact Sling - 8mm

Rating for this product: 5 April 6, 2009

These slings weigh a fraction of old-style shoulder lengths. It's great to be able to grab 10 of these when you start up a pitch, and feel like you are carrying almost nothing. One of my favorite pieces of gear, for sure.

Light but substantial

Mammut Revelation Climbing Rope - 9.2mm

Mammut Revelation Climbing Rope - 9.2mm

Rating for this product: 5 April 6, 2009

I have the duodess 60 meter. It's light enough to take for multi-pitch routes, and for long rope-stretcher leads at Indian Creek. Sometimes when I pick an ultra-light rope, I know I need to be careful with it, because it shouldn't get a lot of jumarring or toproping. I like this diameter because it is substantial enough to be more durable, but is also super light.

Perfect Crag Pack

Mammut Flight 35 Backpack - 2130 cu in

Mammut Flight 35 Backpack - 2130 cu in

Rating for this product: 5 April 6, 2009

I like this pack for its simplicity. It's not an ultra-lite alpine pack, because the fabric is very durable, and that's what I want in a crag pack so it will last. I've been using it for 2 years, and it doesn't have a scratch on it. Occasionally I have a hard time with size constraints if I want to bring an unusual amount of warm clothing and gear (like during the cold season at Indian Creek). But I think this is actually a good feature because it kind of forces me to bring just what I really need...... The top pocket is a good size, the waterproof zipper can occasionally feel stiff, but has also held up with no trouble since I've had the pack. I like the minimal design of this pack--only what I really need, and comfortable to carry.

Five Ten Project Climbing Shoe

April 3, 2009

Five Ten uses men's US sizing. Usually I get my shoes one half size to one full size smaller than my men's street shoe size. If you have extremely wide feet, you might want to get the same size as your normal hiking shoe size. These are really soft, so should be pretty comfortable right away and might feel a little bigger than a stiff shoe.

Mammut Moses Wire Gate Carabiner

April 3, 2009

I've replaced all my biners with these, even sport draws! The weight is unbelievable. On a big rack of gear, you will immediately cut down half the weight. That means you carry less, weigh less, and climbing is instantly easier! Presto! Initially I thought smaller biners would be harder to clip (like on the sport draws), but now I am so used to them that I actually find it harder to clip big, heavier biners. I am totally in love with these things, and give them all thumbs up :)
