Pukey grey, but trim, light, easy to move in

Marmot Baffin Insulated Jacket - Men's

Marmot Baffin Insulated Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 January 6, 2010

SUPER lightweight, and good but not outstanding warmth for the weight. (There are some cold spots, and you will be cold in 50-degree slightly windy weather unless you are being quite active.)This jacket has a somewhat trim, longer fit. (The Large size is good for a 6', 178-lb, long-armed (35") body with plenty of length to spare in the sleeves (don't you love Marmot?!?)).I got the gargoyle grey after I returned a Marmot Zeus in the same color because I was allergic to the down. I would have to say the gargoyle grey fabric on the Baffin is shiny/plasticy/synthetic in comparison. It looks like a Hefty Steel-Sak garbage bag, and there is nothing hip or attractive about the greenish-yellow "accent color" that looks like a garbage bag tie and cements the trash-bag look. The fabric (which looks like sleeping bag fabric) gets crushed/wrinkled quickly and doesn't look sharp. Maybe that's the flipside of it being so lightweight. My dig on the gargoyle grey color is not at all true for the Marmot Zeus... That jacket looked gRRReat in gargoyle and the green was a very pleasing accent. Anyway, color aside it's still a nice jacket and very lightweight, not bulky. It is not nearly as warm as the Zeus.

Down allergies! DARN!!

Marmot Zeus Down Jacket - Men's

Marmot Zeus Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 January 6, 2010

If you are allergic to down do not even consider this jacket. (If you are not allergic to down, this jacket is nearly perfect.)

I LOVED the lightweight fabric, the plush feel, the light-weight warmth, even the color. EASY to move around in. Men's L fit my 6', 178-lb, long-armed body perfectly (35" dress sleeves). But I am allergic to down and started to wheeze the minute I put this on. I kept trying it for a few days with the hopes that I was making it up, but I was not. Generally I love Marmot even more than Patagonia, but the Patagonia down sweater does not give me the same trouble. Please, Marmot, downproof this jacket more or use better-quality down. Otherwise this jacket is a SUPERSTAR!!

As for the beer gut comment going around... the Patagonia down sweater this year is bigger in the gut than before, and while this isn't going to make anyone look slim, I had the same beer gut problem with the Patagonia down-sweater as with this. I looked trimmer in the Zeus.

The Marmot Baffin is a reasonable down alternative (synthetic down), though it's not as warm as the Zeus, and the gargoyle grey color on the Baffin is shinier and more synthetic-looking than on the Zues. With the Baffin I look like I'm walking around in a Hefty steel-sak garbage bag with a sick yellow-green tie. Oh, well, at least I'm not wheezing.

short legs

Icebreaker Beast 150 Boxer Brief w/Fly - Men's

Icebreaker Beast 150 Boxer Brief w/Fly - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 21, 2008

Nice soft wool, fit more snugly than last year's and thinner than last year's.

Very short legs, especially vs. prior year's and especially after washing (even if you line dry). Feels more like a speedo/squarecut than fitted boxers.

Bone color is between opaque and transparent. You can see skin color through it.

Beware if you loved last year's Icebreaker wool boxers

Icebreaker BodyFit 200 Boxer with Fly - Men's

Icebreaker BodyFit 200 Boxer with Fly - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 August 30, 2007

Unfortunately this year's Icebreaker wool boxers have some changes for the worse: a far less comfortable elastic band around the top (once soft, now stiff), an awkward fit (less supportive), and a larger number of (uncomfortable and unnecessary) tags.
They are still made of the same highly functional merino wool, however. For those who have never tried wool boxers, they are soft, grow softer with every washing, can't be dried in the drier but dry overnight, don't generate static electricity, and are equally comfortable under running tights, jeans, or even dress clothes.

Who knew that wool boxers would become my everyday favorites?

Icebreaker Boxers w/ Fly - Men's

Icebreaker Boxers w/ Fly - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 22, 2007

These wool boxers are not at all itchy, easy to wash and dry, comfortable (i.e. supportive without being tight or clingy), and durable. I have worn mine under wool leggings while running (they wick), under jeans (they do not bunch up), under dress pants (they are thin). And... after wearing them, I have ordered more. In fact, I have turned into an Icebreaker addict, as will you if you try them. (The 260-weight leggings are the most comfy products, and the superfine T's are a close second.)
You will need to hang them to dry or dry them flat, but they dry overnight easily and are even softer after you have washed them.
Personally I wouldn't market a product as "not stinky," but it is true: you can wear these boxers several days in a row without bad odors. I have.
There is a tag on the right "cheek" (which is better than the usual location on the back of the waist) but this can be easily removed without damaging the stitching to make the world's most perfect boxers.

Sugoi Mobil Trail Short - Men's

Sugoi Mobil Trail Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 4, 2007

Lightweight, breathable, slightly stretchy (but not clingy) fabric.

Nifty elasticized pocket in back is great for keys / credit card.

The light color on these Mobil shorts does show the sweat a bit.

Great construction, longish fit, versatile fleece

Arc'teryx Maverick AR Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Maverick AR Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 20, 2006

This is a terrific jacket. For those of you with long arms like myself, you will find the slim-but-slightly-long fit of the jacket great. You might also like the way the jacket drapes nicely (with no overly technical cinching around the bottom, though there is a drawstring you could use if you wanted). The pockets lay nicely and the zippers are smooth and easy to use. Though slightly technical, the jacket is suitable for city wear (at least San Francisco wear). It is not as bulky as thick fleece jackets, but it does have pile on the inside and is not a very thin fleece. (The outside has a bit of a harder finish; not soft, but doesn't catch on things.) There is not much wind protection, and the jacket is a little too cold for 40-45 degree am's. It's probably better for upper 40's to mid 60's weather.

Mountain Hardwear Micro Ozone Zip T-Shirt - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Micro Ozone Zip T-Shirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 20, 2006

This is one soft fleece with an amazing ability to generate static electricity when slipping over your head. It's cozy and warm enough, though, that you will love wearing it as a substitute to a light sweater. I haven't used it for intense physical activity, so can't comment on its performance there. The jacket is a quite thin/lightweight fabric.
