Nice Product

Outdoor Research Revel Jacket - Men's

Outdoor Research Revel Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 19, 2011

I originally bought the OR Helix. It was lightweight but no ventilation and a bit restrictive. I did not field test it. I sent it back and got the OR Revel. I really like the cut on the Revel It fits nice for athletic build and wide shoulders. I bought a Large (5' 11"- 165) it has plenty of space and still fits right. I have tried it in a pouring rain for a short period. It's waterproof & breathable, the zipper & zip away hood are nice features

Not what I was looking for

Arc'teryx Stealth Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Stealth Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 March 1, 2011

I have several Arcteryx jackets and wanted one that was good for travel without a technical look so thought I’d try this one. Nope, didn’t like it. Because of the funky collar and zipper, boxy fit. The material was a magnet for hair and lint. It was not warm, functional or attractive. Returned it without wearing it.

One of my favorites

Arc'teryx Fugitive Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Arc'teryx Fugitive Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 16, 2011

I agree with other reviews that the Fugitive’s front is cut a little too short, it has a high price point, has a smooth finish, making it easier to layer for a fleece, is not especially "technical", breaths well, shed's water, actually fairly wind-proof and it warm.

So there is not much else to say, except that if you can get it for the right price go for it. I love mine and wear it instead of my Gamma MX because of the points previously mentioned. I'm 5'10" 165, athletic build and bought the large and it is a fairly snug fit with room for a couple of light layers.

I also have the Cloudveil Run don’t Walk hoodie, which I reviewed ( another winner if you get it at the right price). The Fugitive is a much better stand alone if the weather is windy & drizzling or snowing lightly.

light as a feather yet very warm

Mountain Hardwear Nitrous Down Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Nitrous Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 10, 2011

The Nitrous down Jacket is comparative to the Patagonia down Sweater, the Marmot Zeus, and the North Face Diez. But it looks better and has a very nice athletic fit. It's a light down sweater with 800-fill and is surprisingly warm. It’s great for layering on snowy, wet cold days and a good stand alone on warmer dry days. If you want durable, toasty and bulk, get the Sub Z. If you want water & wind resistant get a shell. I’m 5’10” 165 with athletic build and could have worn the medium for snug fit but got the large so I could get several layers under it.

MHW Sub Z if you don't want to be cold

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero Down Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero Down Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 10, 2011

I agree with the previous review. This is my 3rd MHW down jacket. I wore out the Phantom and the lodown. The sub Z is rugged & toasty warm but a little on the bulky side. I’m 5’10” 165 with athletic build and the large fits OK.

Good quality for the price

Patagonia Guide Softshell Jacket - Men's

Patagonia Guide Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 10, 2011

I agree with most of the comments made in the previous review. Nice softshell, windproof, water resistant, relatively warm for a light jacket. Good Patagonia quality, great price for what you get. It doesn’t have any technical bells & whistles like pit zips or wrist cinch but I recommend it. I also have an Arcteryx Sigma AR & the Gamma MX softshell in size XL. They are a little large but can take some layering.

I tried this jackets in large but decided on a medium. I’m 5’10” 165 with athletic build and I got the guide jacket in a medium for a snug fit and can still get a base layer and a Patagonia r1 under it. Nice jacket.

Norrøna what’s up with the weird armhole fit?

Norrøna Svalbard Flex1 Softshell Jacket - Men's

Norrøna Svalbard Flex1 Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 February 10, 2011

Lke a couple of the other reviews, this is a nice stylish, technical jacket with great features. I liked the look and the feel of it but the arm holes are so restrictive that the fit is uncomfortable. I took it out of the package tried it on and wished that I could keep it but put it back in the return mail the next day.

Are Europeans built that much differently than Americans? I also tried the Montane Sabretooth softshell and the shoulders were very narrow. I’m 5’10” 165 with athletic build and MHW, Arcteryx, Patagonia large fit’s like a glove.

The Norrona Men's Svalbard fit in every way except the Noodle armpits. I would like to have kept it because of all the other features. Come on Norrona, you want to sell this in the US do something about the pits. Fix the problem & make the jacket in all black with out the green piping and I will definitely buy another one.

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Cloudveil Run Don't Walk Full-Zip Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 5, 2011

This is a great, good looking, and warm hoodie. . I'm 5'10" 165, athletic build and bought the large but it was too long in the waist (otherwise ok fit). I returned for a medium which fits nice and snug. I wouldn’t pay full price for this but got a deal on it with a price match at BC and bought another I/2 price from another source. Haven’t put through much of a test but am spending a lot of time wearing it around town.

Love the full zip & pullover- did not like the hoody

Patagonia R1 Hooded Fleece Pullover - Men's

Patagonia R1 Hooded Fleece Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 February 5, 2011

Did not like the fit or the weird mummy hood. returned it for the Cloudveil RDW hoody. I have 2 Pataonia R1 full zips & 2 pull over's in size large. I'm 5'10" 165, athletic build and love these.

If you want a great hoody go for the Arcteryx Fugitive & cloudveil RDW. They are both the best in class.

Patagonia R1 Full-Zip Fleece Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 February 5, 2011

I have 2 R1 full zips & 2 pull over's in size large. I'm 5'10" 165, athletic build and could have gone with the medium for more form fit but I like a little room so lg works. They are warm, great looking and you can live in them when temps drop. I'm a gear addict and these are on my favorite list..

Come on Arcteryx

Arc'teryx Mistral 16 Shoulder Bag

Arc'teryx Mistral 16 Shoulder Bag

Rating for this product: 3 March 5, 2010

I have a lot of Arcteryx gear. I like most of it but often slight details are off. With the Mistral bag, they got most of it right with an insightful design but one simple blooper. The handle strap on the bag that you are going to be using when it's not on your shoulder is not padded and when the bag is full and heavy, the strap is not comfortable. Come on Arcteryx, for the price of this thing, pad up the handle strap.

Great jacket for the price

Mountain Hardwear Lodown Jacket - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Lodown Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 November 17, 2008

Ok let it be said, that I am a Gear Junkie and have a closet full of Mountain Hardwear, Arcteryx shells & jackets which are the best technical brands available. This is my 2nd LoDown Jacket (the first is pretty beaten up). I also have the Mountain Hardwear Phantom Jacket which is filled with 800 fill down and is light and stuffable. I really like both the Lodown and the Phantom for warmth and comfort. The Lodown can also be used as a good mid layer for a light shell on cold snowy days on the mountain, although a little puffy. Buy it if you want good quality & value and to stay warm.
