Pretty Much The Best Thing Ever

Carhartt Denim Bib Overall Pant - Men's

Carhartt Denim Bib Overall Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 5 days ago

Carhartt overalls are an item everybody should have in their closet. I have had two pair of the denim, and a pair of the traditional duck overalls. They are hands down the most durable and functional bottoms you can have. I would highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a pair of pants that can do it all, and last forever. Fit in the overalls is pretty true to size against standard Carhartt bottoms. I would size up for a bit more comfort and freedom of movement if you need.

The North Face Greenwich Pullover Hoodie - Men's

February 3, 2012

Thomas,
Thanks for your question. The main difference between the Greenwich and Half Dome pullover hood from The North Face is the Half Dome logo is embroidered on the Greenwich, opposed to a screen print on the Half Dome hoody. I hope this is helpful for you.

Canada Goose Yorkville Bomber Down Parka - Men's

January 22, 2012

Peter,
Thanks for your question. Regarding the contrast between the men's Chilliwack and Yorkville parka's from Canada Goose, you are correct. The only significant difference between the two styles is the detachable hood found on the Yorkville versus fixed hood on the Chilliwack. All other features and fit and comparable between the two. I hope this is helpful for you.

Millet Trilogy Limited GTX Jacket - Men's

January 17, 2012

Brent,
Thanks for your question. Regarding the Millet fit, I disagree with the previous post in Millet running true to size. Millet garments feature a pretty true Alpine cut similar to Arcteryx, but a bit on the smaller side in my opinion. I am 5'10" 135 lbs and am a pretty true medium in nearly all brands. I own the Millet Trilogy Limited jacket and have a size Large which fits great. if you are in doubt I would size up.

Once you get the fit dialed, you will be very pleased with the performance of this shell. Gore Active shell is a nice technology addition to the Gore stable of Pro Shell and Paclite. The Millet Trilogy is an outstanding hardshell and extremely stylie to boot. I hope this is helpful for you.

Arc'teryx Alpha SV Tall Jacket - Men's

January 4, 2012

Rico,
Thanks for your question. Per the other post, please check to see if you have a powder skirt in the Alpha SV you received.

The reason you will not find Alpha SV Tall on the Arcteryx site is this is an Arcteryx product exclusive to backcountry.com for the Fall 11/Winter 2012 season in the states.

backcountry.com will work with you regardless to make sure you received the right piece of gear. I hope this is helpful for you.

NAU M3 Hooded Top - Men's

NAU M3 Hooded Top - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 18, 2011

After owning and testing a few technical hoodies (Arcteryx Fugitive for example), I am sold on the M3 Hoody from NAU. This garment is extremely comfortable, thermal property is outstanding, and it is very stylish. Like the majority of NAU products, the M3 has a more tailored/athletic fit. I am 5'10 and 135 lbs, size medium fits me like a glove. The athletic fit of the M3 makes it a great thermal mid layer, and fits nicely under a shell. It is also a great stand alone/travel piece. The M3 is fashioned from Merino Wool, thus the price tag. Nonetheless, I would recommend this product to anyone, it is a great add to your closet.

Outstanding

Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Primaloft Jacket - Men's

Norrøna Lofoten Gore-Tex Primaloft Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 4, 2011

I have been skiing in the Norrona Lofoten Gore/Primaloft ski jacket for 4 seasons. This is hands down the best ski jacket I have ever owned. Two layer Gore Tex coupled with 100 grams of Primaloft Sport insulation give you a formidable line of defense against a wide variety of mountain conditions.

The Norrona fit features longer torsos and arm lengths. I am 5'10", 140 lbs and wear a medium in most everything. I have owned this jacket in both Medium and Large. The only difference in fit for me between the two sizes is the arm length of the large.

I disagree with a previous post regarding the durability of the face fabric for this jacket. I have put mine through extensive field use and have never questioned the jacket's durability.

Premium weather protection, comfort on demand with Primaloft, and signature Norrona style and detail. How can you go wrong?

Nothing Special

Discrete Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Discrete Shirt - Long-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 25, 2011

This shirt by Discrete is nice, however it is nothing special. It is fashioned from a light weight cotton, and has that flannel feel. The pearl buttons are a nice feature, however they are heavy against the lightweight nature of the material. Fit is pretty true to size, I am a medium (5'10 130 lbs) and went with the Dapper Black color. Fit runs a bit longer in length. My complaint is this would be a better product if it was built from a heavier cotton/flannel.

Great Kid Carrier

Deuter Kid Comfort I Carrier

Deuter Kid Comfort I Carrier

Rating for this product: 4 November 25, 2011

After experimenting with an old Kelty Explorer, mainly to see if my 19 month old daughter would actually like it, I arrived at the Deuter Kid Comfort 1. So far it has been great. I find this carrier has all you need regarding storage features for short to medium excursions, and carries the weight nicely. It is not as fully featured as some other carriers. This particular model does not feature an automatic kick stand when you remove the pack to put it down, and is not compatible with the additional Deuter sun shade if I am not mistaken. The most important thing is the kiddo loves being in it for our outside adventures. This is a great product if you are looking for something well designed, and a bit lower profile than some of the other carriers.

The North Face Plasma Thermal Jacket - Men's

November 22, 2011

Jesse1322,
Thanks for your question. As Dean said, this is not possible. The Plasma Thermal is a fixed insulation jacket. The majority of zip in compatible jackets are shells. Zipping a fleece into the Plasma Thermal would probably be a bit much regarding the overall warmth of the garment. I hope this is helpful for you.

Arc'teryx Atom SV Insulated Hoody - Men's

October 24, 2011

Jeff M,
Thank you for your question. For skiing I would favor the Atom/Sabre combination opposed to the Fission SV. Reason being is that the Fission SV is not a ski jacket. It is really an alpine, belay style parka. I think you will have a lot more temperature flexiblity with the Atom/Sabre combo. You will also have a more feature specific package in terms of pockets, skirting, and et cetera in the Sabre. Unless you get really cold, or ski in a consistently frigide climate, 200 grams of Primaloft is overkill for an aerobic activity. I hope this is helpful for you.

Peak Performance BL Down Jacket - Men's

Devon,
Thanks for your question, while your approach may work, I would let you know that this is not a layering jacket. The Peak Performance BL Down Jacket is a stand alone, expedition worthy jacket. Mountain Hardwear Sub Zero SL Hooded Down Jacket - Men's

August 24, 2011

William,
Thanks for your question. The Sub Zero SL Hooded jacket from Mountain Hardwear will pack down some, but it is not really your most packable option in my opinion. If you are looking for a down or synthetic insulated item for your purposes, I would check out the Nitrous Down Jacket, the Zonal jacket, or Zonal 1/4 zip pullover. All of these are lightweight, with great warmth to weight ratio's, and much more packable than the Sub Zero SL. I hope this is helpful for you.

Patagonia DAS Insulated Parka - Men's

August 15, 2011

Hornito,
Thanks for your question. The main difference between the Sub Zero from Mountain Hardwear and the DAS Parka from Patagonia is the build story. I like the Primaloft story in the DAS, as Primaloft is more thermally efficient than down should you get wet. At a 170 gram insulation story, the DAS is one of, if not the warmest jacket Patagonia produces. The fit may be a bit different DAS to Sub Zero, as the DAS is more of a belay type parka that is made to throw over the top of your outer layer. Both are great jackets and are outerwear cornerstones for these brands. I hope this is helpful for you.

Badger Brad,
Thanks for your question. The difference between the Alpha LT versus the new Alpha FL and Beta FL shells that Acteryx will be delivering for the upcoming Fall 2011 season is the build story. The FL's (Fast & Light) will be using the new Gore Tex Active Shell membrane, opposed to Pro Shell in the Alpha LT. The Active Shell is positioned to be Gore's most breathable membrane, ideal for aerobic output. Weight wise you are looking at 10.8 oz in the Alpha FL versus 12.9 oz in the Alpha LT. Thanks for your question. The Icebreaker Hopper shirt is a 200 weight merino wool product. The Icebreaker Superfine Tech Lite T is lighter weight Merino, coming in between 150 and 140 weight. That being said, the Tech Lite will be cooler in hotter weather. The Hopper features a heavier fabric, therefore it will probably be a bit more durable than the Tech Lite T. Arc'teryx Gamma MX Softshell Jacket - Men's

May 2, 2011

jef3154912,
Thanks for your question. The Gamma MX is closely related to the Gamma AR as both softshells are built from Polartec Powershield material. The Gamma MX is not insulated like the Gamma AR is. The Gamma LT is a lightweight, 3 season softshell built from a double weave fabric. If you like the material of your Gamma AR, I would go with Gamma MX. The Gamma MX is the standard by which quality softshells are judged in my opionion. If you are looking for a lightweight, aerobic, 3 season option go with the LT. I hope this is helpful for you. One item to also note, the Spring 11 season is the last season Arcteryx will be using Polartec Powershield in the Gamma MX. They are going to a new material beginning Fall 2011. Arc'teryx Alpha SV Jacket - Men's

April 26, 2011

Greg,
Thanks for your question. I agree with Phil, the Alpha SV is a bombproof, protective hardshell, which is probably a bit more than you need for your end use. Gore Tex Pro Shell will absolutely keep you dry in driving rain, but there are some other options out there that might be a bit more comfortable. I might suggest a jacket that is fashioned out of Gore Tex Paclite which is lighter. Those jackets would be the Alpha SL, Alpha SL pullover, Beta SL, or even something like the Theta SL, which is a combo of both Gore Tex Paclite and Gore Tex Pro Shell. Any and all will give you outstanding weather protection, and three season use. I hope this is helpful for you.

Outdoor Research Cirque Windshirt - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 April 11, 2011

The Cirque Windshirt from Outdoor Research is a gear must for any outdoor enthusiast. I have been running the Cirque's predecessor, which was called the Contour, for a couple of years now. The Cirque is a great barrier for light rain, wind, bugs, and any other elements you might encounter on the trail during warmer months. I have also found that it works great as a travel piece, as well as a second layer. All in all the Cirque is a very versatile item that works great in a variety of different applications. See for yourself and pick one up.

CW-X Revolution Tight - Men's

alfredo,
Thanks for your question. The Revolution would be a great next to skin choice for a ski tight. I ski in the Stabilyx model, and have not gone back to anything else based on it's performance. One item to note is that the Revolution is not insulated. Keep that in mind as to how much you may need to layer on the bottom. I hope this is helpful for you.

Rab Microlight Alpine eVent Down Jacket - Men's

March 4, 2011

dro3233111,
Thanks for your question. The Rab Microlight Alpine eVent Down Jacket would be redundant if used as a layering piece. To illustrate, you would have a shell on top of another shell that has a down insulator built into it. If you are looking for a technical waterproof/breathable jacket that features fixed insulation, this is a great option. Rab does make some killer shells that you would want to layer under to toggle the warmth of the jacket. Check out the Latok series, if that is type of jacket you are looking for. I hope this is helpful for you.

Arc'teryx Fugitive Hooded Fleece Jacket - Men's

February 24, 2011

alslanno812250304,
Thanks for your question. Regarding the Fugitive hood from Arcteryx, I own one of these, and it is a very versatile piece. The hood volume is pretty tight, I would not say that it would fit over a climbing helmet, but will fit under it quite nicely. When fully zipped up the hood has a snorkel like fit around the head and neck. I don't think it comes up overly high in the collar to give you a lot of face protection. I hope this is helpful for you.

Armada ARG Ski

February 8, 2011

Pierre,
Thanks for your question. The design of the ARG (true reverse camber) make it one of the best powder tools available. That being said it is just that, a powder/soft snow ski. Skiing the ARG on firm piste and through bumps is more hanging on, than it is skiing. This ski does not carve on firm snow surfaces, it pivots and slides. The overall girth of the ski is also a bit much to maneuver through bumps in my opinion. Can skiing the ARG in these conditions be done, for sure. I have been riding the ARG for three seasons. They are life changing in powder and soft snow, and life threatening skiing them on hard pack and through bumps in my opinion. I hope this is helpful for you.

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Model 3-Finger Glove

Hestra Seth Morrison Pro Model 3-Finger Glove

Rating for this product: 5 January 31, 2011

I had an old roommate that used to run a three finger glove, and I chidded him endlessly on the hill for wearing them. It looks like I was the fool all along as the Seth Pro Model 3 Finger design is the answer. I have poor circulation in my hands (thanks to many seasons of wearing substandard gloves), and nothing ruins my ski day like cold hands. I have often thought about wearing mittens, but I prefered the dexterity of a full finger glove. That problem is now solved with the Seth Pro 3 Finger glove. They have great dexterity, an under the cuff gauntlet, and warm! The integrated wrist leashes are also a killer feature. I had a pair of Hestra AB Pro gloves prior to these, and as Seth say's once you are in Hestra you won't use anything else. Would you actually disagree with Seth Morrison? I think not.

Pretty Much the Best Pant I have Owned

Peak Performance Switch Pant - Men's

Peak Performance Switch Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 31, 2011

I was looking for some new ski pants to replace my Orage Benji pants for the season and am happy to have found the Switch Pant by Peak Performance. I have been wearing this pant for about three weeks now and have only positive comments. The fit on this pant is outstanding. I am approximately 5'10 135 lbs and went with the medium size. There is ample size in the waist for me and appreciate the external side waist adjust tabs. The key for me here was the length. The bottom hem of the pant hits the top of my boot perfectly. I have always found similar pants to run too long for me. The kick patch is fantastic as it is more minimal than a traditional alpine pant, but still provides great edge protection. The 80g insulation package is nice and comfortable. If you get too warm the mesh backed inner leg vents are massive and very effective at dumping heat. I went with the dark ocean color, it is a rich navy blue, and is a great alternative to black. Articulated knees, a variety of pockets, and great weather protection round out the Switch, and will make it the go to in my closet for sure. Peak Performance really does make a tremendous product, check them out for yourself.

Patagonia Reversible Puff-Ball Bunting - Infant/Toddler Girls'

Rating for this product: 4 January 15, 2011

The Patagonia products for kids are great. I picked up both a kids down sweater and the Reverse Puff Ball suit for my 9 month old daughter. I initially purchased a 12 month size in the down sweater. The fit is pretty true and she will go in to the jacket nicely. Based on that I picked up the Reverse Puff Ball in the same size, 12 months. After getting the suit and checking it out, I am convinced a three year old could fit into it. The suit is great and keeps her warm, Patagonia quality speaks for itself, just watch the size. Otherwise you might be hooking up your favorite neighborhood leprechaun up with something to keep them warm during the winter.

NAU Down Shirt - Women's

NAU Down Shirt - Women's

Rating for this product: 5 January 15, 2011

After sporting some of the more city oriented down jackets for a few winters, ie the Gotham and Metropolis jackets from The North Face, my wife was looking for something different for the winter season. I picked up one of these for her and she is stoked. She loves the sleek look, and finds it to be just as warm without the bulk of her other down jackets. I own the men's version of the NAU Down Shirt and have found it to be one of the most versatile items of clothing I own. I agree with the previous reviewer in that this is a great stand along piece and also layers very nicely. If your spouse needs a jacket, pick her up one of these.

NAU Modus Trench Rain Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 11, 2011

The Modus Trench from NAU is outstanding. If you are looking for a longer length rain jacket or a versatile around town jacket this is it. I am 5'10 135 lbs and have a medium size which fits great on all accounts. The length of the jacket falls about 4 inches from the tops of my knees to give an idea there. I have worn the Modus in a variety of wet weather conditions and have been very pleased with the weather protection. A down shirt or down sweater layers perfectly underneath if you are looking to add some warmth. The Modus does have a nice brushed fleece interior. All of these features are rounded out by the Modus' very sleek style. Great jacket!

CW-X Revolution Tight - Men's

Paul,
Thanks for your question. The reason the Revolution tight from CWX is more than the other products they offer is the way the Revolution tight is built. The CWX support web in the Revolution is seemlessy built into the tight, while the web in the other tights is a sewn on panel construction. The Revolution is their top product for performance. If it is a bit too expensive for you, check out the Stabilyx family. There are both insulated and non insulated options there. The North Face Tilithium Triclimate Jacket - Men's

January 5, 2011

JT,
Thanks for your question. The biggest difference between the Tilithium and Atlas triclimates from The North Face is the inner jacket of the system. In the Tilithium you get a Heatseeker (similar to Primaloft) inner jacket versus 200 weight fleece inner jacket in the Atlas. For warmth I would choose the Tilithium with the Heatseeker inner jacket. It is overall a better jacket and the synthetic insulation will also be more thermally efficient than fleece should you get wet. If you are looking for something to combat the wind in Chicago you might also consider the Windwall triclimate. I hope this is helpful for you.

The North Face Redpoint Insulated Jacket - Men's

January 3, 2011

Craig,
Thanks for your question. The North Face Redpoint and Compressor Jacket from Mountain Hardwear are very comparable jackets. Both of them are using Primaloft Eco as the insulation package. The Redpoint has 100 grams of Primaloft if I am not mistaken and the Compressor has around the same range. The biggest difference between the two is the weight of the exterior fabric. The North Face Redpoint has a much heavier exterior fabric makingt it more durable. The Compressor has also has a bit more of an athletic fit versus the Redpoint. Both will keep you nice and warm. The Redpoint is zip in compatible with other North Face jackets. I hope this is helpful.

The North Face Catalyst Down Jacket - Men's

December 1, 2010

Fred,

Thanks for your question. When a garment is called out as having an alpine fit it is going to be a much more fitted to the body, athletic cut. Alpine fit is the opposite of loose. While the Catalyst jacket can be worn on it's own, it features the athletic fit so you can layer it under a shell.
The Catalyst and Tahoe are both great jackets, both are going to be warm. You are looking at 800 fill power in the Catalyst versus 700 fill in the Tahoe. The Tahoe jacket is basically a hooded version of the Nuptse jacket if you are familair with that style from The North Face. Both will be great choices for fending off the cold in NYC. I might consider a jacket with Windstopper as that jacket will be much more wind resistant than either the Catalyst or the Tahoe. I hope this is helpful for you.

Liberty Helix Ski

Liberty Helix Ski

Rating for this product: 5 November 30, 2010

I have now spent two days testing the 187 Liberty Helix here in the early Wasatch season, and could not be more stoked on the performance. After riding a 182 Line Mothership as my everyday ski for nearly seven seasons, I decided it was time to upgrade, and I landed on the Helix. I love the sidewall construction, as well as the response and feel of the Bamboo core. I would not rate myself as an overly powerful skier as I come in at 5'10" and approximately 140 lbs. This is the longest ski I have ridden in some time, and did not have any trouble with the swing weight or stiffer flex of the Helix. It does not feature a true twin tip, like my old Line's (Helix is more of a directional twin), which I like, as the ski runs a bit longer for me. My two day test period featured everything from soft to icy on piste conditions, as well as shallow (2 to 3") powder conditions. Like a previous review says, the Helix truly does it all. A+ on carving ability, and edge hold on firm to icy snow (it never really gets that icy here in Utah), as well as good float in more shallow powder at 105 underfoot. I have the Armada ARG for deeper days, so I was looking at the Helix to be my ski for those other days. Let's be honest, how much fun is reverse camber on groomers? The Helix met all of my expectations for this ski's purpose in my quiver, and I am looking forward to spending a good amount of time skiing them for seasons to come. If you are looking for something new, plus supporting a smaller manufacturer, look no further than what Liberty has to offer.

Eider Power Pro Softshell Jacket - Men's

October 25, 2010

Rocky Mountain Goat,

Thanks for your question. The Eider Power Pro jacket is killer piece in my opinion. It runs on the fitted/alpine side of the spectrum. I am 5'10" 135 lbs, and I wear the medium. My experience with the Powershield Pro fabric has been outstanding in a variety of skiing/mountain conditions, outside of a Canadian deluge, where I needed a Gore Tex poncho, not a softshell. The Royal Blue color is bold. I would not say that it is neon blue, but what you would expect a strong Royal Blue to look like.

Eider Power Pro versus The North Face Kishtwar & Norrona Narvik Powershield Pro jackets :

vs The North Face Kishtwar - Very similar feature set. The Eider Power Pro has two hand pockets and one smaller upper arm pocket. The TNF Kishtwar has two large front pockets (enough room for skins), and one Napoleon pocket. Hood design and volume on both the Power Pro and the Kisthwar are similar. Hood volume is not enough for a snow helmet. The Kishtwar is lighter than the Eider Power Pro as there is no insulation. The Eider Power Pro has an awesome high loft fleece interior.

vs Norrona Narvik - The Narvik gives you a different pocketing scheme with more pocket volume. Jacket fit and hood volume in the Narvik are going to be a bit more generous. The Narvik also features a powder skirt with neither the Kishtwar or Power Pro jackets feature. Like the Kishtwar the Narvik is not insulated.

Details like the high loft fleece interior, and wrist cuff design that creates a solid gasket against the elements (check the pictures), make this jacket for me, and set it apart from the other two jackets.

I hope this is helpful for you. Enjoy.

The North Face Kishtwar Softshell Jacket - Men's

The North Face Kishtwar Softshell Jacket - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 October 17, 2010

The Kishtwar Jacket represents what is possible in next generation softshells. This jacket is built from the new Polartec Powershield Pro fabric, The North Face is only one of three brands globally to be using this softshell material. Powershield Pro gives you the weather protection of a hardshell, blocks the wind like Windstopper, and actually breathes. The Kishtwar has a very simple feature set compared to the other two Power Shield Pro jacets on the market (Norrona Narvik Powershield Pro & Eider Power Pro jackets) featuring two large front pockets, one Napolean pocket, sans powder skirt or a backer on the interior of the jacket making it quite light. The two front pockets are ample enough for holding skins. Being from the Summit Series this jacket has a more athletic fit. I am 5'10", 135 lbs and the Medium fits very nicely. If you are looking to layer with this jacket I would size up. The Kishtwar has performed beautifully in a number of mixed winter and spring weather conditions, making it the softshell I am reaching for more often than not. Another aspect of the Kishtwar is the price, this jacket is an amazing value for a top end piece. All in all an outstanding jacket!

Norrøna Narvik Powershield Pro Softshell Jacket - Men's

October 14, 2010

Rocky Mountain Goat et all,

Thanks for your questions regarding the Norrona Narvik Powershield Pro Jacket. If you have read anything about this new material from Polartec, you will know that you get weather protection of a hardshell, Windstopperesque CFM properties to block wind, and the best of both worlds, air permeability. Norrona is only one of three manufacturers globally to be using this material. The Narvik does not feature a high loft fleece backer. If you are looking for PowerShield Pro with a high loft fleece interior we have a piece coming in from Eider that is killer for this season. The Norrona piece is equally great, just not insulated. I have been testing this material for about 5 months and am sold on the functionality, and I am not a softshell person. I hope this is helpful.

jch3666146,

Thanks for your question. Between the Heli Alpine jacket and the Heli Softshell jacket you are basically choosing between ingredients. The Heli Alpine jacket is fashioned from Gore Tex Pro Shell, where the Heli Softshell jacket is built from Gore Tex Soft Shell. Rab Momentum Jacket - Men's

September 24, 2010

Alex, greetings and thanks for your question. I think you are correct. The Momentum being 3 layer eVent, you should have ample weather protection. The Momentum is pretty lightweight, if you plan on layering appropriately based on what Fall/Winter conditions you could encounter you should be fine. The shell will only be providing weather protection, and you will be relying on your layering system for insulation. I would probably go XL in size based on your height and giving you room to layer. The North Face Squizzle Suit - Men's

September 21, 2010

Jason, thanks for your question. There is a grand canyon of difference between the Squizzle Suit and Haines Tuxedo from The North Face. First and foremost is the build of the suit. The Haines Tuxedo is fashioned from Gore Tex Pro Shell, while the Squizzle Suit is built from 2 layer Hyvent Fabric, which is a proprietary material developed by The North Face. HyVent is great in terms of weather protection/breathability, but it is not Gore Tex Pro Shell, thus the dramatic difference in price. Additionally the fit of the suit is quite different. The Squizzle has the big boy/free ride fit, while the Tuxedo is a much more fitted, alpine fit as it is mountian guide inspired. I hope this is helpful for you. Pray for snow.

Hey Matt, I have a pair of both the Frogskin and the Jupiter. I find the Jupiter to fit tighter around the head as the O Matter frame is all around more substantial. I also find that they fit a bit smaller on the face than the Frogskin as the diameter of the lense is smaller. I much prefer the fit of the Jupiter to that of the Frogskin. While I love both frame styles, I find the Frogskins to be loose and easily fall of my face.

The Oakley Jupiter sunglass is the classic example of style and function. The glasses are very similar to the Frogskin, but are a bit smaller in the frame. I like the Jupiter better than the Frogskin as I find the O matter frame to be a bit sturdier than it's cousin. All in all multifunctional in purpose and head turning in style. Classic Oakley.

Arc'teryx Hyllus Fleece Hooded Jacket - Men's

June 4, 2010

Ed, Arcteryx Hercules vs Salomon Snow Trip II, you are really looking at 2 uniquely different jackets here. Arcteryx uses the best materials available to produce their garments, and their quality standards speak for themselves. The Hercules is fashioned from Polartec Powershield Pro softshell with a high loft fleece interior, very cozy and comfortable. The Snowtrip is built with Salomon's own proprietary softshell, and being a 3 in 1 jacket, comes with a removable synthetic insulation inner jacket. The Arcteryx fit is going to be more tailored and athletic against the Salomon fit for sure. Breathability wise you will need to weigh the Snowtrip w/ and w/o the liner versus the Hercules with a fixed interior. This being said you should look at what you will be doing in this jacket. If you are looking for a versatile, do it all, insulated softshell, look at the Hercules. The Snowtrip is a ski jacket. Happy shopping.

Norrøna Bitihorn Dri1 Jacket - Men's

May 14, 2010

Mark, with your build I would probably recommend an XL. The Norrona fit is very close to Arcteryx with the alpine/athletic cut, however the arm lenghths tend to be a bit longer. I would for sure size up if you are looking to layer under this jacket just to make sure.

As others have attested, the Volkl Gotama is an outstanding quiver of one ski. Thanks to the new rocker design it skis powder well, 106mm underfoot gives you enough to handle variable snow conditions with ease, and in true Volkl fashion carving capability on piste. If you are looking for one ski to do it all look here.

Oakley JP Auclair Signature Crowbar Goggles

Oakley JP Auclair Signature Crowbar Goggles

Rating for this product: 5 April 26, 2010

The Oakley JP Signature Crowbar is the first pair of Oakley goggles I have purchased. I have been a Scott devotee for years, but think I have new allegiance. This goggle has been fantastic in all categories for me. I have the fire iridium and have tested it in Wasatch conditions ranging from bright sun, low light, snowing/low light and this tint has been great for me. Equally as good, if not better than my Scott Chrome Amplifier lens that I have been running for years. Granted high intensity yellow is going to be the best in flat light, but I don't like interupting my ski day to change lenses. Fit is outstanding, no fogging issues, and I love the expanded peripheral vision the Crowbar yields. To top it off the style of this frame stands alone.
