Jamming with the Splitter!!

Mountain Hardwear Splitter Backpack - 2150-2350cu in

Mountain Hardwear Splitter Backpack - 2150-2350cu in

Rating for this product: 5 August 4, 2008

Overall I am very stoked on this backpack. The organizational features are a very clever design and it definitely helps me from getting nervous that I didn't pack my shoes, harness or chalk bag since there is a place for each item. I know before leaving the house that I have everything packed. The thing that sets this pack apart from any other that I've used for cragging before is the feature that allows the pack to split into two and fold out like a suitcase. The burly Cordura (drybag) material is thick and durable so the pack can lay in the dirt, on rocks or on muddy surfaces and not get all beat up and worn like your typical nylon pack. I learned it sheds water very well after I got caught in a hailstorm last weekend. It also comes with a ground tarp useful for laying out your gear or a spot for the dog to lay down. If you are over 6 feet tall I would suggest getting the large/long version since the torso length on the regular is pretty short.

Salomon Falcon 10 Ski Boot - Men's

July 8, 2008

David I would check out the Salomon Impact 10's or the XWAVE 10's if you can find a pair. Those two would be right up your alley.

Hestra Heli Glove

Hestra Heli Glove

Rating for this product: 5 April 3, 2008

Best gloves I've ever worn for skiing powder. They are super warm, very durable and the elastic wristbands are sweet for screwing with your gear on the lift since you don't have to worry about dropping one.

Killer shoes

Garmont Sticky Cat Approach Shoe - Men's

Garmont Sticky Cat Approach Shoe - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 August 3, 2007

These sticky cats thoroughly impressed me this past weekend in the Wind River Towers.
They got me off some pretty sketchy descents and provided excellent support when hiking with a 50 lb. pack on. They seem to take a little bit longer to break in, but once they do they feel great!

Killer Boots!

Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's

Scarpa Charmoz GTX Mountaineering Boot - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 7, 2007

I just bought these boots for an upcoming trip to Mt. Ranier. I took them out for a good, solid break in before the trip. I went to Mt. Timpanogos to climb the Grunge Couloir. They performed excellent and broke in right out of the box. The fit is wider in forefoot and in the heel also. I would highly recommend these boots if you're looking for a lightweight solid performer!

Synchro Pant review

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Pant - Men's

Mountain Hardwear Synchro Pant - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 24, 2007

These are the best ice climbing pants I've
used. I've tried a few different pairs of soft shell pants and these are by far superior. I can sit down on snow while belaying my partner and climb dripping
flows that soak my partners to the bone and laugh at them because I stay completely dry.

Darn Tough Merino Wool Over The Calf Ultra Light Ski Sock

Darn Tough Merino Wool Over The Calf Ultra Light Ski Sock

Rating for this product: 5 November 2, 2006

Putting on a pair of socks for the first time is never really too exciting but the first time I put these Darn Tough's on I was pretty stoked! They are very comfortable and contoured to the shape of the foot. Also they are pretty warm for not being a thick, bulky sock and seem to breath well.

Weak tool

Grivel Candela V-Thread Tool

Grivel Candela V-Thread Tool

Rating for this product: 2 October 17, 2006

I wasn't too impressed with the durability of this tool. After a few outings this tool sure enough folded up in half and was useless. If you keep it protected in a pack all the time it will last maybe but don't plan on carrying this on your harness.
