Limited range of view and poor 2nd lens color

Giro Manifest Goggle w/Bonus Lens

Giro Manifest Goggle w/Bonus Lens

The new trend, I'm understanding, is to weld two lenses together to try to form a waterproof dual lens system. Seems like a good idea but the weld for these goggles, and others I've seen, like Smith, dramatically obscures the potential field of vision by keeping the weld inside the edge of the frame as apposed to underneath the edge. This technique limits the field of vision by a lot, (can you say tunnel vision). In particular, these goggles are also really expensive compared to the Smith I/O which costs less with a case that will hold all of your spare lenses and protect your frames and the installed lens when they're packed. The 2nd lens, black, given with these goggles also isn't a particularly good lens for "medium" conditions or good snow contrast.I wonder if they're so expensive because they have Carl Zeiss make the lenses so a bunch has to go to them. Food for thought.Lens change system is better, however, than on the Smith I/O.

Vision obscured too much.

Smith Phenom Goggle

Smith Phenom Goggle

Rating for this product: 2 January 29, 2011

I haven't bought goggles for a while so the whole weld two pieces of plastic together to make the lens is new to me. It seems like a good idea but when the inner lens is small and the weld needs to obscure a part of your vision the product becomes worthless to me. I buy goggles to see better not cut off 20% of my vision. The goggles are obviously well made and if the weld was out below the edge of the frame I would own a pair. I wanted to buy the I/Os but found the same thing. I wound up buying a pair of I/O (bigger) on an emergency basis because I needed something for a trip but they are too big for my face if anyone wants them discount (with the case, black frame). The search continues.

Not so good.

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Vest - Men's

The North Face Khumbu Fleece Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 2 December 9, 2008

Low quality fleece, crooked construction. The tallest, thickest most uncomfortable collar ever put on a fleece vest. Low tech zipper. Good price.

Not great.

Arc'teryx Covert Vest - Men's

Arc'teryx Covert Vest - Men's

Usually a bird fan but this vest was very tight, the fleece was a bit thin, styling a bit strange and the collar floppy.

Real nice.

Cloudveil Inversion Down Vest - Men's

Cloudveil Inversion Down Vest - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 December 9, 2008

Everything I've run across from Cloudveil is high quality with well considered design and mostly good fit (sleeve length is sometimes extremely long). This vest is a good one, not as puffy and thick if that's what you're looking for.

Fantastic Value

The North Face Venture Jacket - Men's

The North Face Venture Jacket - Men's

Very tough to beat for the price. My only minor gripe is that the waist could be a bit longer in the back, so your ass doesn't get so wet if you're not wearing the pants.

Good basic vest at a great price.

Arc'teryx Delta LT Zip Pullover - Men's

Arc'teryx Delta LT Zip Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 3 November 28, 2005

Fits well, all the right elements. Feels a bit crunchy in the front. Maybe they put some kind of wind slowing barrier on the front side? This detracts from the feel a bit but it may soften, I haven't had it for very long. Pocket zippers could use some kind of a pull.

Warm and fits well

Arc'teryx Delta AR Zip Pullover - Men's

Arc'teryx Delta AR Zip Pullover - Men's

Rating for this product: 4 November 17, 2005

Great piece, it fits well and is nice and warm. The only improvement I would add is something more pliable at the end of the sleeves so they can be pushed up further to better regulate temperature.
