Perfect summer T

Backcountry.com Merino Crew Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Backcountry.com Merino Crew Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 8, 2009

This is a great backpacking T. Everyone knows about merino wool already, so I want to point out the construction of the shirt. The seams are bomber. No simple single/double stitch here. That being said- these shirts are thin-- if you were using them for casual tee shirts, they might be a little too thin unless you were going for that vintage aged see through look. Perfect for summer hiking/ camping. Much more durable then the thinness of shirt would suggest, they are very well made.

GSI Outdoor Flask - 18fl. oz.

GSI Outdoor Flask - 18fl. oz.

Rating for this product: 5 June 8, 2009

Leakproof screw on top, durable and thin profile... and cheap! These don't hold odor at all really- They would if you left some booze in there for a month after your camping trip, but it's really nothing to worry about. I dropped a full one about 10 feet onto hard granite-- just a scratch. They are a little taller then the product photo would indicate- About 8" tall I'd guess w/o having it in front of me.

Summer Backpack Essentials

Arc'teryx Rampart Long Short - Men's

Arc'teryx Rampart Long Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 8, 2009

These are great lightweight shorts for summer backpacking. Lightweight, yet durable- these shorts are have a bit of stretch in them and are incredibly quick drying. The double button waist closure is awesome- much more durable then a traditional button closure. They hit me right at the knee... perfect length- not too short at all. I wouldn't want them any shorter or longer. All pockets sit nice and flat when empty.
These shorts are made in China.

Great job Dynastar

Dynastar Huge Trouble Ski

Dynastar Huge Trouble Ski

Rating for this product: 5 December 3, 2008

Dynastar nailed it with this ski. Mount em right on the normal line for all/big mth riding. Awesome swing weight for spinning, ect... they feel very balanced under foot. I recommend the p15 on these skis unless you actually set your din to 15 or above. This binding feels great on the ski, and you save some weight over the p18. The construction is bomber- typical Dynastar. Well built and with an amazing feel underfoot, I have no reservations saying this ski is Dynastar's hottest ski this season.

Unique Shirt

Mission Playground Crosscheck Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Mission Playground Crosscheck Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 June 30, 2008

This is a very unique print- but not like "what a ugly shirt". It's quite the opposite; literally every time I've put this shirt on someone has complimented it. The snap buttons with the faux mother-of-pearl are a really nice touch. The fabric is durable and soft. The key to keeping these shirts in nice shape is washing them cold/cold and hang drying them. Two thumbs up, Mission Playground is ruling it with their men's offerings.

Mission Playground Juarez Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Mission Playground Juarez Shirt - Short-Sleeve - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 22, 2008

This shirt is styleee ( yes, it deserves extra e's) It should come with a stick to beat off all the ladies that will be chasing you around. Very well made shirt, and the snap buttons are a nice touch. If you want it to stay nice be sure to wash cold and hang/lay flat to dry. It's a little pricey, but worth the $$$. If you take care of it you'll have a stylin' go-to summer shirt for years to come.

Bern Macon Hard Hat Helmet w/ Visor Knit Liner

Bern Macon Hard Hat Helmet w/ Visor Knit Liner

Rating for this product: 5 March 3, 2008

Snowbird received 20in of blower overnight last night. Super good turns, ect. I went to send an air that I've hit at least 10 times this year -money take off and landing.. Except the landing had slid, exposing a hard bed surface. Of course the landing is blind, and I didn't realize it until I was in the air. I tried to stomp the landing, as I hadn't set my self up for a hip check. I backslapped a 40 foot air so super hard it wasn't even funny. My head was catapulted backwards into the bed surface incredibly violently. The helmet performed amazingly. Every other helmet I've owned (Giro) would have left me with at least a moderate concussion. Instead, the Bern seemed to absorb 99% of the impact- I hardly felt a thing. The helmet didn't shift at all; I felt like my head was coddled in cotton balls. The tourists at the bottom could not believe I skied out of such a violent fall. Thank you Bern, I'm sold.

Oakley Crowbar Goggles - Iridium Lens

Oakley Crowbar Goggles - Iridium Lens

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2008

Best goggle I've used. Puts Smith and Scott to shame. They rarely fog, and the optics are killer. I found the best thing to do is to buy two pair; one for low light, one for sunny days. You could buy 1 frame and one extra lens, but that sucks. It's a pain to change the lenses, and when you do you muck up the lens with your fingerprints and oil

The lenses that have worked the best for me:
H.I ( high intensity) yellow for low light,
and
Gold/Black/Blu/ iridium for mostly sunny days

Get the Fire lens if you are going to be riding in bluebird/ glacier/ spring conditions. It's money.

All the difference...

Swix Bronze All-Round Brush

Swix Bronze All-Round Brush

Rating for this product: 5 January 16, 2008

Get a bronze brush. It makes all the difference. I brush my skis before I wax ( after I clean them), and you wouldn't believe how much extra glop comes out compared to using a nylon brush. I don't race, but am always breezin' by my buds on traverses and flats. The beauty of a good tune is realized when you are pillaging the 15" of new while your friends are 50 feet behind poling on traverses.

El Naturalista Moai N241 - Men's

El Naturalista Moai N241 - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 January 14, 2008

These are the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. Super well made, and they look great. Like the other review, you should buy them if you are on the fence about the price-- well worth every penny. They will last for years if you take care of them. Buy the shoes, you won't regret it when you see them. FYI-- The 'Cuero' color is accurate on this web site. I went to the manufacturer's web site, and they look almost reddish in color... this is not the case.

Black Diamond Zealot Alpine Ski

Black Diamond Zealot Alpine Ski

Rating for this product: 5 December 3, 2007

This is for the 192.

These things rip. They chew up crud and rail on the groomers. they almost feel like race skis on the groomers. And the pow... these things love speed and power and a lot of input. You are rewarded with a ripping, stable, big mountain ski. Not for the weak or for the groomer cruiser.. but you knew that already.
These skis are stiff. Think 189 Rossignol squad. No kidding.
Me.. 5'11 190ish. Likes powder and drops and speed.

Arc'teryx Alibi Long Short - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 30, 2007

These shorts are awesome do-it-all shorts. They have a touch of stretch in them, and are super lightweight and breathable. They are a little spendy, but I'm sure they will pay for themselves over time.

Chaco Z/1 Unaweep Sandal - Men's

Chaco Z/1 Unaweep Sandal - Men's

Rating for this product: 5 May 30, 2007

I just retired my last pair ( they were bought in 2002.) The Diamond Stealth sole is great for all-around traction. People say that the Diamond Stealth sole wears quicker, but I've worn my new pair almost everyday for 2 months and they look like new.
