Muddy Creek San Rafael Swell Gear

List Description

Everything you need to hike muddy creek from Thomsich Butte to Hidden Splendor mine. I did this hike in mid October during a dry and sunny day. Hike is approximately 15 miles and takes about 8 hours to complete at a normal pace. The narrows section is about 9 miles long and is about 10 feet wide at its most narrow point. The hike consists of a lot of stream crossings and several sections of wading in the narrows. Maximum water depth was about 4 feet when my group hiked it. You are wet from the waist down for a majority of the hike, so wear clothing that will keep you warm even when wet. I wore the Moab Ventilator hiking shoes, and they performed ok, but not great. There is a lot of mud and gravel, so your feet and ankles get beaten up over the miles.
