The North Face® Trans-Antarctica
Celebrating A Spirit of Exploration and Cooperation
The North Face Trans-Antarctica line pays tribute to the spirit of exploration and international cooperation that took six men from six different countries across the world’s most inhospitable continent. If anyone knows how frostbite and grueling conditions can bring people from totally different cultures together, it’s the athlete, the recreationalist, and the company that supports the ongoing exploration of our world. ![]() ![]() What was the 1990 Trans-Antarctica Expedition?
Between 1989 and 1990, in temperatures that would make most of us hallucinate about spending the rest of our lives in a hot tub, six explorers from six nations took 40 sled dogs on a historic trans-Antarctica expedition. This team from the Soviet Union, United States, France, China, Japan, and Great Britain set aside their cultural differences to battle -125˚F temps, blizzards, and hurricane force winds. They negotiated mountain ranges and bottomless crevasses. They covered every inch of their skin to not only protect against the extreme cold, but also the unshielded UV rays coming through a gaping hole in the ozone layer. These six men made this 220-day polar trek to raise worldwide awareness of global climate change and to encourage preservation of the Arctic. Through their successful journey, these men developed lifelong bonds and rekindled hope for our world and our environment. |
