No one boot, style or manufacturer fits every foot out there. It is extremely difficult for me to believe that there were no warning signs that this boot was going to cause problems before you decided to keep them, or that the boot suddenly changed fit after you decided to keep them. To cause that kind of blistering, your heel HAD to be moving/slipping in the heel cup, meaning this particular boot wasnt for you, sometimes you just have to accept that no matter what the manufacturer's claims are, and no matter how much you want it too, some boots are not meant for you.

No indication at all in the test period. As I said I walked with them on an incline treadmill with simulated pack weight, of course it wasn't in one go - it was an hour at a time. And yes, 3 miles into a climb out of the Nantahala Gorge on the AT, hot spots were developing and I did everything I knew to do to arrest the problem. I could not feel any slippage on the heel but there is a ridge in the boots on the outside of the heel about 1 inch up. This is where the problem appears to originate. Don't you find it interesting that there are 3 reviews here with torn up heels? In fairness to Salewa, their boot development dept has contacted me and put me in contact with their US office.

I dont question your review or assessment of the boot, and 3 people with the same problem is not uncommon. I cant wear Asolo footwear because its too narrow. But 1000's of folks love them. I'm just saying, that for YOUR foot, that ridge, or seam, or whatever is right where it shouldnt be, but for many more on here, and appearantly many more world wide, the boot is excellent. Again, no one manufacturer will ever suit everyone.

All fair comments, but why then does the manufacturer market them with a "blister free" guarantee?

Update: I have to give Salewa credit, they want my boots for evaluation to see if there is a manufacturing defect related to the outside heel ridge I reported. They have issued a return material authorization and are refunding my purchase price. It's the right thing to do!

They give a blister-free guarantee because they believe, that for most people, this will be the case. For those that suffer - they are kind enough to compensate. That's more than fair, and expecting a pair of boots to fit everyone perfect is not reasonable. It's too bad they didn't work for you, but at least you get your money back. Not that you need the guarantee if you bought them from Backcountry.com, as they have their own 100% satisfaction guarantee.

looks like he has been wearing crocs, no wonder he has blisters. :)

SF Ranger...well that's a very rare combination...just like there's not a lot of non nco's who actually make it in. Moreover, maybe less than 1% of all 18X make it therefore "SF NCO" is semi-redundant. We don't like little boys!

you are tying your boots too tight and i recommend that you skip an eyelet. i do this to relieve pressure, hence the blister. this happens because we have odd shaped feet...deal with it.
