I pack a small swiss army knife with a pair of scissors to cut open the tablet packaging. They're too difficult to open with your hands/nails and you don't want to bite them open.

Phillip, I usually use a pair of scissors at home and make tiny cuts in either side of the package. Then once I am on the trail, all I gotta do is tear at the line. Easy-peasy!
