Yakima Copperhead Bike Mount

The Yakima Copperhead Bike Mount easily attaches to virtually any fork with locking Long-Throw Skewer. Great stability and ergonomics with new fork block design, the Copperhead is a rack to gaze at in quiet awe. Mounts equally well to round or square crossbars and fits all popular tires and rims with new wheeltray and wheelstop. Lockable with SKS cores-sold seperately.

Bottom Line: This aggressive locking mount won't attack your budget.

Rusted shut

Living in the Northwest, I've had one of my copperheads skewing brackets rust over and lock up on my. It took some serious lubrication and torque to unfreeze it and get it working again. I might suggest pulling it off your rack if you are going more than a week without using it.

Does the skewer "head" come off seperately from the "tray" on the copperhead Yakima rack? I want to also have a skewer "head" that I can use for a seperate application.

Yes, you can take the camming mechanism completely off of the Copperhead rack. I don't know what purpose you have in mind for it, but I do know that removing the Copperhead cam is a pain in the butt.

The SprocketRocket has a killer camming mechanism, killer as in freaking awesome. It mounts like a charm.

Copperhead review

So far, the Yakima system I put together from 3 different suppliers has worked just fine. I bought most components from this site as was pleased with the price. The system is fairly easy to setup and feels sturdy enough to not worry about putting my new Cannondale on. I certainly would purchase this whole setup again.

Nice and snug

Great bike holder! Holds my road bike nice and secure and is easy to use. Unfortunately, while I was clamping the forks in, I snapped one of the keys in half (but I think it's more the user than the equipment!). I'd like to see a tougher rear wheel ratchet strap and less Yakima stickers all over the rig, but, overall, it's great!

Nice quality. Easy to attach. Bit tricky to get bike into skewer due to the rebound speed adjustment knob on the bottom of the shock.

Nice Rack

The Copperhead does everything I need it to do. I haul my bike to trailheads all over the Wasatch Front and Back flawlessly, day after day. One complaint, small, but still: At highway speeds the bikes can get a little shake going...I'm not afraid of them falling off, and it doesn't damage the bikes in any way - but watching a car drive down the road with a 2000 dollar bike on their roof shaking to the wind is a little sketch. I ain't skerd though. Great rack for the price.

Glad I found you and the copperhead!

Hello. I am glad I found BackcountryStore.com and the Yakima Copperhead mount. My local retailer said the Copperhead mount was being phased out and that is what I had set my mind on. I found BCS via a YAHOO search and found the mounts there. When I got the mounts I installed them to my system very easily and hauled my Trek and a friends Bianchi to the starting point of our weekly ride. The mounts worked flawlessly and I look forward to dealing with BackcountryStore.com in the future.
